a friend of mine said that jw's paid tithing.
i've never heard it mentioned on this board - is this true, and if so is there a set amount?
it's biblical so i would expect the jw to say something about it.
Brings up an interesting subject. Being that it is a Biblical practice, I'm surprised the GB has not required this as part of "serving Jehovah." What I do know is that the society has always prided themselves on not passing a collection plate, etc. As for me, I rarely contributed, but would be the first one in line to get a new Bible. Isn't that terrible? Forgive me God, for I have sinned.

I have to say that even though their religion has caused me grief, I cried when I read this story. I wouldn't wish this terror on anyone.

I've been anxiously awaiting this decision for the past two weeks.
i always had a fear as an active jw, that i would not like life in the new world that i would not like to be perfect.
to never make a mistake, that would mean you would never get to kiss and make up.
i would never get to watch a real football game, and porn would be completely out of the question.
My thoughts exactly! Throughout my Witness career, I always feared the idea of living in a world where women would be in subjection for eternity. Didn't seem like paradise to me.
my family will not be attending the march.
i respect bill and what he has accomplished, but i believe that attempts to control the march and the marchers, are misplaced -- even damaging for victims of abuse -- who have been controlled enough!.
the last thing victims of abuse need is to be told to keep up appearances.

Since you think this march is therapy for your family, then I'm assuming you will feel the same need to express yourself in the Philadelphia courthouse in the same manner that you want to do during this march. After all, isn't pressing charges therapy? Therefore you can act as angry as you would like in front of the judge. He'll throw your ass out! Your behavior would only hinder your cause.

well, a change occurred at the end of april much like what happened in china.the conservatives used silentlambs as an excuse to squash the liberals and any chance of reform in the organization.why do you think they are asking for 1,000 to leave bethel?
it is the liberals, they are being kicked out wholesale and by doing so the last chance for the organization to save itself.the battle is over, jaracz won.. i had heard about the 1000 people leaving bethel but it was spoken of as "downsizing".
It seems that they are really trying to relocate out of Brooklyn. Didn't they move the Governing Body to Patterson some years ago; moved alot of other crap there too I think. And, a thread was started a month or so ago about their petition to the authorities in Patterson to expand there. Looks like they are trying to get out of the City.

i was going along fine with my glass of ice tea, my cat sitting next to me as bill and the two young ladies were being interviewed.
i even made it okay through the first section of the wt comment that, "we abhor molestation..." but when chung got to the part of their comment that said something to the effect of "we provide counseling and emotional support to victims," i nearly spilled my tea on my cat.
i replayed this segment alot, and noticed that the reaction of bill and the two ladies to that section was that they were just as shocked as i was.
witchywoman, sorry to hear about your daughter. Is this the same one mentioned in a thread yesterday entitled "August KM fall out?" My father kicked my brother out of the house when he was 18 all because my brother was working instead of going to the meetings. Would not even allow my brother to come back to get his items. The poor boy had to break into the house to get his clothes, tv, etc. Witnesses have not a clue of what love is, nor do they really care.
Mimilly - I remember when I was talking about going to see a therapist. The sisters got me in touch with a Witness therapist in DC and so I went to see her a few times. Never could really afford her being that she didn't take insurance from anyone and she was 2 hours away (Witnesses came from all over to see her. Would drive or fly in for their appointments. Her schedule was always booked solid). Her rate was $100 an hour and it killed me financially to try and appease the other Witnesses versus getting the help I needed. On our first session, she stated that if I ever confessed any sin to her that she would require me to go to the elders and if I did not, then she would tell them. This from a licensed counselor who is sworn to secrecy and can be sued for not keeping that (except in certain cases I believe).
