Do ppl really listen?
by WildTurkey indo you think ppl really listen?
do most ppl really care enough to really hear what another person is saying from the heart?
i dont believe that most ppl really listen to what your saying, i think they are listening for a break in the conversation so they can talk.

I have a problem with listening. I just recently realized that I have this problem and am always thinking about what I can say. Isn't that terrible. I'm working on it by putting forth an effort to hear every word the other person is saying and trying to sympathize with their concerns.

jw marriages age differences
by invisible inof 3 that straightaway spring to mind:.
dg (m) 64 e (f) 27. bm (m) 49 d (f) 18. pl (m) 43 e (f) 18.
2 of the above were also 'arranged' marriages, do you know of any other instances of extremes in jw marriage age ranges?

When you say they were "arranged" marriages, do you mean that they lived in a culture that still arranges marriages or was their marriage a result of parental pressure?
My other question is, were all three men previously married?

Wedding ceremonies outside the kingdom hall
by Stealth ini was talking with my sister jw this past week and she told me that in her congregation they now have a new rule that for a ms or elder to perform a marriage outside of the kingdom hall, like in someones private home or in a park it now requires the approval of the entire elder body.
i can remember many marriages that were not allowed in the kh, yet you could always find an elder or ms who was related or easy going enough that would agree to perform the marriage out side of the kh.
this was the case in my marriage since my soon to be spouse was not yet baptized they would not do it at the kh, so my bil ms performed the wedding at a local hotel.

In my old KH, the brothers rejected my sister from being married in the Hall (well she and her love did go down behind the barn to make sure everything worked prior to marriage, so I guess she was considered bad association). But months later the elders rejected a couples request to be married in the Hall because the groom planned on wearing a kilt, as he was from Scotland. Lord you would have thought he was planning on wearing nothing the way the elders acted. They didn't allow them to use the Hall and therefore not one elder was invited to the wedding. Another elder from a neighboring cong came and married them at the country club. Bunch of crock.

Perfection Seeker,
I hope you weren't offended by my previous post. I'm an avid animal lover and actually take the photos of the animals on the abovementioned website every Sunday after church. I wish you both the best in adopting a child. I need new parents since being disfellowshipped, so maybe you could adopt me?
Praying for your success in finding a little one.

Comforter said:
"I know how people think the Bible came to be in its present form. Most usually point to Rome but that is a bunch of garbage'. Rome thinks the Apocrypha is canonical. They are wrong."
Comforter, your ignorance shines through in this statement. Dawn has the facts correct about how the Bible came to be in its form:
"The Bible as we know it was Canonized about 300 A.D. by a group of Catholic Bishops. Prior to this there was some disagreement over what scriptures were inspired and what ones were not (for example - the Gospel of Thomas). The Bishops met and decided what gospels and scriptures were inspired from God and put them in the Order we have them today - now our common Bible."
Comforter, do a little research outside of the Watchtower and you will see what historical fact is. Catholics compiled the Bible in its current form. So I wonder why the JWs even use the Bible, since "false" religious leaders decided upon its contents... oh I forgot, JWs use the Watchtower. Just as the intro by you to this thread states: The Watchtower has said...
Or just maybe, God was directing those spirited appointed religious leaders then, as he does today.

Comforter,
You stated, "If you believe the Bible...."
What I believe is that the Bible is a book of writings that directs us toward a relationship with God. However, I also use "reason" when reading the Bible and realize that men wrote it. Yea, yea, the "Bible is inspired by God" (2 Tim 3:16). But even a man wrote that verse, and it does not say that everything written in the Bible is how God feels - for example the suppression of women.
*** Rbi8 1 Timothy 2:8-12 *** 9 Likewise I desire the women to adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind, not with styles of hair braiding and gold or pearls or very expensive garb, 10 but in the way that befits women professing to reverence God, namely, through good works.
11 Let a woman learn in silence with full submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence.
If you see the Bible as a divine product, then these are Gods restrictions on the behavior and roles of women. Indeed if your religion, which continues to prohibit women from holding position, believes that this is how God feels about the matter, then wouldnt he also feel strongly about little girls and women with braided hair, gold jewelry, etc.? Explain why it is that verse 11 & 12 must be adhered to, yet not verse 9.
From this argument, I base my belief on the entire Bible. That it was written by men 2000 years ago. I do believe that it helps to direct us toward a spiritual life, yet not that every word is that of Gods.
Comforter, I bet you can't even tell me how the Bible came to be in its form. Can you? And, if you can, then please explain the irony of how it came to be in its form with your belief about religious leaders.
