ok...3 days ago, i found out that i was going to be a father!!

good new right?

well then she says that she is considering having an abortion...which i am totally against....so we discussed it...then she started to think that she might have the child....so she talked it over with her twin sister...and she told her to get the abortion...now she says she wants the abortion...now i am upset...not onlly does she want the abortion...but she wants me to pay for the entire thing...so not only am i going to be terminating a developing life...but i have to pay for it????

If so, unless you can speak from experience and the emotions you had to deal with from whichever decision you made, then you have no authority to question that value

I was merely asking if he had re-evaluated his position or not.

I've noticed, and I was going to start another thread on it, that on the topics of: abortion, blood transfusions, and homosexuality, those XJWs born and raised in the org seem to keep their old beliefs. Maybe not as strongly as before (IE., I don't think any XJWs would die for a lack of blood transfusions - but, all I've talked to IRL still object to them), at least on these three issues (maybe more) - it seems people don't generally spend the time to rethink what they were told on them.

I was just wondering if he had yet, and still came to this (current) conclusion, or if he was just running on emotion + his old, never really questioned, beliefs.

How much value to you attach to a specific group of cells in his (?ex?) girlfriends's womb?

I dunno, sounds like you have a lot of JW baggage still hanging around.

Have you really re-thought your take on the pro-choice/pro-life thing since then?

I mean, the JWs said life begins at conception - but, then, their teachings also rely on human souls and bodies being one and the same from conception.

If that's not true....it changes things, no?

i need a vent guys, i hope you all don't mind!

i'm not sure what has happened to me today of all days, but i just can't fight back the tears.

i guess it must be the pretence fatigue kicking in.

I would be interested in hearing about what you did when you were at the stage I'm in right now.

Aside from here, do you have any friends that are not witnesses?

You really need friends who aren't in order to have any real chance of getting out 'normal' - people you can fall back on who you know will still care for you regardless of your religious choices. Fortunately, there are lots of ways of meeting decent potential friends:

1) Take classes at college. Don't know how UK colleges are, but here colleges and vocational school classes can be taken from junior-year high school (grade 11) up to, like, wherever.

2) Volunteer at local community events / gardens / parks / etc. Little harder to sneak by the witness family (IE, difficult to justify preserving part of 'this old system') - maybe just explain you want to have practice restoring plants and such for the 'new system' . In any case, this is a great way to meet some truly wonderful people.

3) Get a job! Especially in a retail position - you meet LOTS of people. Generally, you even become more or less friendly with some customers (who may end up deciding to work at your store and become real friends).

Why did god create germs?

if there is a god who crested us , then why did he create germs , viruses ans other such things that harm and kill us?why also are there no instructions about these things in the bible, and don't give me that mosaic law crap, where does it mention for example boiling water or spreading germs through human contact, the most important things you can do agianst catching nasty dieseases?edited by - sleepy on 9 august 2002 9:4:21.

That's a good one.

Key here is to differentiate 'germs' into various subcatagories, majorly: 'viruses' and 'bacteria'.

Bacteria can sometimes be useful, sometimes be harmful, etc. Depends on the bacteria and where it is.

Viruses are NEVER useful. They cannot reproduce without destroying a living cell. Not a decaying, old cell. Not an already dead cell. Not even a cancerous cell. Nope - viruses need to 'infect' living, healthy, cells - and kill them - in order to survive.

Now, who would create such a thing?

It can do nothing - NOT ONE DAMN THING - except kill living things. THAT'S ALL A VIRUS - ANY VIRUS - CAN DO.

So....who created them?

Don't believe in Evolution or Creation.

what am i going to do , i'm not fully convinced by evolution or creation arguments.. they are both flawed in different ways, and suffer from a lack of evidence.although change through evolution does happen how far this can go is unknown.complexity from design does happen but usually leaves evidence .also no theories can go far enought in answering the ultimate questions.evolution relies on a universe that springs into existance, creation on a god that does so.evolution requires many complex and unlikely senarios in order to have happened so does creation.the fossil record is incomplete and without the missing pieces we can only infer what else should be there.god is either very shy or has lost his voice and dosen't seem bothered to prove his existance.. yet i exist, and the very heart of my being , the conscious mind is one of the least understood phenomenons in the universe.

I have a problem excepting the idea that there is a god who is above and beyond this universe, and who created life on earth directly as it is now or in the past.I have troubling excepting that the process of evolution that happens in living creatures is the sole reason for, and mechanism that causes our existance.

Hmmm...sounds like you need to do some reading on various pagan teachings. You get the potential for accepting whatever you want for creation and what has happened since.

Myself, I'm leaning strongly towards abiogenesis + evolution for how we got here, with frequent intrusions in our basic development by spirit beings. I don't believe they really make major changes, and they are not organized for any particular objective. They may even not be some seperate entities, but souls of the dead. Dunno.

Others have a more spiritual interpretation, assuming 'the gods' actually have a major role in human development.

A big feature of paganism is polytheism, which explains MUCH better why 'god' seems so schizophrenic - because there ISN'T one, big, all-powerful and all-seeing god. Just a number of spirit creatures who feel the need to set themselves up as gods over humanity.
