(And if you think I used the word 'persecution' too much in the above post - you just wait until the first service meeting after this event!)

Do you really believe that ANY JW WANTS this to happen?
Do you really believe the GB does not WANT persecution of a few members in some distant 3rd world country?
Really?
C'mon now, what would they tell their flock if suddenly all the 'persecution' of them in the whole world suddenly stopped? "Oh, sh!t, guess we were wrong about the whole 'followers of Jesus being hated by the world' thing"???
They can't let persecution in 3rd world countries stop - because THAT'S THE ONLY PLACE THEY ARE BEING PERSECUTED. And, their religious teachings REQUIRE THAT THEY BE PERSECUTED.
I'm not saying the GB KNEW they would be beheaded. They sure as hell knew they would be 'persecuted' though - and that's why they sent them there.
Again: they NEED persecution to validate their religion. And the world as a whole keeps getting more civilized just as their teachings say we should be becoming more barbaric - hence, they need to STAGE (or, act in such a way as to cause to happen) 'persecution'.
Do you honestly think the WTS doesn't have the funds to buy the terrorists out and rescue their people? Of COURSE they do! But, they won't do that, since there wouldn't be any 'persecution' then.

So...anyone play 'America's Army'?
by Xander injust wondering - new game out, developed by the us army.
it's based on the unreal tournament 2003 engine, so it looks pretty good.
decent gameplay, a lot of innovative features for shooters.. best of all, it's free.. wondering if anyone else has taken a shot at it yet?

Only problem is they never sent me an email
I'm assuming you provided a valid email address when creating your character...
As to not getting an email - that doesn't surprise me this week. I haven't even been able to log on to any server at all - the authorization servers are down.
This is almost 100% likely to be caused by the upgrade they are doing today. I guess the 'rangers' patch will be out tonight or tomorrow, and I understand they have a history of all the auth servers getting buggered up after being upgraded (the servers must be upgraded before the client distribution is released).

I hope the WTS is doing something to get these people and any other missionaries out of the country.
That's part of why I abhor the WTS so much - you KNOW they aren't.
Indeed, this is *exactly* the kind of thing they WANT to happen - it proves they are 'in the time of the end' and strengthens the faith of the members in 1st-world nations (where their memberships has been declining).
a spokesman from the local branch here has spoken in the news regarding this matter, he said that they were not responsible for sending them there.
No, of course not.
And the JWs don't ban their members from taking blood or serving in the military, either. Nor do they prohibit children from reporting abuse to the authorities.

Well, no, I'd imagine not. I don't have any plans to actually join said army (I...uhhh....spend WAY too much time 'dead' in this game to feel any urge to run off and do it for real... - more of a navy tradition in the family, anyway. But I'm 'old' and married and with a house and cars, et al - so I don't think I'll actually be doing any such thing in this life.)
AA:R is a decent game, though. And free.

How I became a JW - Part 1
by Amazing inhow & why i became a jw part 1 of 10
introduction: when we leave the jw religion, there is no shortage of those who ask, "what caused you to leave the watchtower?
" subsequent to leaving jehovah's witnesses, we may spend a number of years unraveling the effects of the jw religion in our family and personal life, business activities, social experiences, and spiritual views.

Interesting reading your tales.
(Incidently, my 'how I became a JW' tale is a little shorter. I was born. Then...no, wait....that's it. )

on the subject of sex
by Vivamus ini am being very serious here, i am having some thoughts on the subject of sex.
what is it that determines the way you view sex?
is it upbringing, or genes?

I was pretty uninhibited and well educated before I was a JW,so when I was baptised I had to reign myself in quite a bit...
Hmmmmm....
{scratches head thoughtfully....}
Since this board seems such a hotbed of conflict lately...I wonder if I could use this to springboard into an 'us vs them' with the whole 'born into' vs 'joined later' thing....
Oh, sure...
"Us 'born into's are more emotionally scarred than you 'joined later's!! So there!! "

Hmmm...married while in the bOrg, still married, so 'not really' to sexually wild.
Well....actually, now that you mention it.........oh, okay, that's a "yes".
Views on sex didn't actually change much, just suddenly not having to feel guilty for having them.
Is it upbringing, or genes?
That's a really good question.
Obviously, genetics play a major role - a powerful sex drive helps our species survive.
But what role do genetics have in, say, sexual preference? Interest level? Even fetishes?
???
