Yes, but not because they are 'tender-hearted' - it's because they are living double lives. The people who perhaps feel the org is wrong, but their message is right, so they keep going to meetings and other 'through the motions' activities hoping when the 'Big A' comes, god will be looking at their 'heart condition' instead of their actions (IE., that they are a 'member in good standing' instead of what they REALLY think). Or, those who would leave if not for the rest of their family.

Do all witnesses shun you?
by JH inthere are always a few tender hearted, who know that shunning is stupid and keep on talking to df'd people, when no one is looking.
are there still a few who keep on talking to you, even if you are df'd?
i'm sure that elders wouldn't shun you if you talk to them, so why do others have to shun you?

What did you get called?
by Fe2O3Girl intr's expression 'hovah.
which he picked up from a friend that used to call him that set me thinking about the things that i got called when i was a jw kid.
one term of abuse was "jew" which is weird and creepy.

Xander
'Jovie', which was really irritating as it was the most common.
'Jo-Hovie' from the slightly more educated.
'Jo-Homo' from the slightly less educated.
'Jehovahs Waitresses', which turns out, is actually the name of a band now.
'Jew' was surprisingly common, and not as a variant of the j.w. name, either, many actually thought we WERE Jews when we didn't celebrate Christmas.
'Jew-knocker', which was apparently in reference to our religion, being jew-like (not celebrating christmas, which, to kids, is apparently all the jewish religion requires different from christianity), but knocking on doors, as well. Usually we only got called this by classmates we ran into at the door.
And, of course, a number of other that didn't really have anything to do with the name of the religion at all, but just general cruelness.
(It's amazing, really, that looking back, I still actually ENJOYED going to school.)

Bowling in Columbine - GOOD FLIC
by back2dafront ini saw this movie over the weekend.
i think he did a very good job addressing the subject of guns in america.
i walked away still not knowing exactly why there are so many more murders in this country than in any other countries.
-
Xander
'Bowling FOR Columbine', actually.
Haven't seen it, and actually don't really mean to.
Morally and statistically, gun advocates simply have no leg to stand on. The gun ownership argument basically comes down to "But it's obviously DESTROYING OUR SOCIETY" vs "But the Constitution GUARANTEES IT AS A RIGHT".
I really don't need to sit through two hours of that..

And what a wonderful kind of worship they have there....
-----------------------------
Well, I had a nice, ruby red vest once given to me by a wonderful lady from up North. Neat magical property, too, if it tapped my ruby red vest three times, I could transport myself anywhere I wanted. Turns out, though, some horribly old hag from out west somewhere desperately wanted it - and was going to kill me to get it!
So, that was enough of vests for ME!
( <--- Now I don't wear any )

Another vote for "gathering dust in closet"
I absolutely refuse to work somewhere that requires business dress (and, as I'm all uber-techy and stuff, I pretty much get my way), so I don't think I'll be 'dusting them off', well, EVER....
I'm pretty sure I couldn't even FIT into some of my old suits anymore. Hell, I still have ties in that closet I got when I was a kid!

What's Ozzie been drinking?
by ozziepost inwhen the borg sent their henchmen to tell us that they'd taken our children from us, they weren't kidding.
so life now is a mix of ups and downs.
this week has been all of those, often within the same hour!

Know what - I think we've had that exact one! (Well, not that EXACT bottle, but the same label/vintage).
We have a lovely restaurant up here near the city (Cleveland) in a rather artsy district called 'The Lemon Grass'. They do the most INCREDIBLE Thai cuisine you can get (well, at least, off the west coast). Anyway, Thai food is VERY, VERY intense flavor, so a dry(er) wine is much appreciated with it.
So, Mrs Ozzie and I sought solace at the Apostate Restaurant tonight. How pleasant to be with 'normal' people who aren't bound by cultist rules but are simply human.
It never ceases to amaze me how comforting this is.
There is very little wrong with the world that a quiet evening out in a nice restaurant to enjoy a LONG dinner can't fix, at least, for a little while. And, I mean LONG dinner, several hours *at least* - just talking, sipping wine, enjoying fine food and atmosphere....

do you contribute to an accurate report?.

The numbers cited in the Bible were obviously estimates (ie. 5000, 185,000). These numbers weren't painstakingly counted, they were just guesses based on the size of the crowd.
OMFG!!
LOLOLOL!!!!!
*Too rich* - I just can't get over how funny this is.
As an example of how precise their god requires them to be, they start listing number rounded to all of 1 significant digit. HAH! (Oh, wait, to be fair, 1 of the 4 examples they cited WAS to slightly more than 1 significant digit, but not by much....LOLOLOL, oh, that's priceless...)
Even better, when you think about it...this is the same god they claim created the earth in 7 days. Why 7? Why not 8, if they are not literal days? Or 6? Or, hey, why not 12 - that's such a holy number to them? Nope - '7'.
I should have used that logic filling out a timesheet. For time, I'd put down '300'. WOW! 300 HOURS!?! Well, see, those are 'creation hours' - they don't actually correspond to passed time.
In fact, I quickly calculated how much time it took for me to write this post, and it was precisely one 'cabbage'. Thinking about this thread took a little longer, roughly a 'radish' or 'timestamp' number of 'Intels'. And, at least a '7' for time counted to turn in this month.

by freeman injust heard on the news the spanish navy got a tip from us intelligence and with that info seized a north koran ship loaded with 12 scud missiles on its way to yemen, with a final destination of iraq or iran.

Of course I support the US. I happen to live here, and find it very nice, thank you.
I DO NOT, however, support the rights of the US government at the expense of its own, or any other, nations' citizens.
The UN charter clearly defines that all humans have the right to "life, liberty and security of person," which is, above all, what I believe in most.
As I mentioned, I don't object to seizing the ship - there is nothing in seizing a ship that I principly have a problem with. It's just doing it when their is no declared state of war or no cause.
1) We (nor Spain, acting on our behalf) are not at war w/ North Korea OR Yemen, OR any person or agency who was associated with the seized vessel.
2) We (nor Spain, acting on our behalf) are not the legitimate police force of Yemen in charge of securing their coastal waters.
It's not as if a declaration of war is exactly hard to do, either, if indeed Congress supports the President's continuing 'war on terror'.

"All is vanity, and a striving after wind"?
(Or, is it rather, "Eat, drink, and be merry....")
C'mon, there are still JWs out there, and (we know from experience) they are FAR too lazy to look back in the archives.
To free them all from mind control requires CONSTANT
flame threadvigilance! *Continuous*slandewatchfulness!! And we must NEVER let out selves be placated bythreats of bannningbeing lulled into a false sense of comfort!!So, uhh...back to business as usual!

I didn't say the seizure of the ship was bad, as it happens I believe those weapons were meant for ill use, as well.
I'm just objecting again to all the 'shortcuts' taken in getting to the point we are at now.
One of those, shortcut here, forget to do this, don't do this properly, another shortcut, et al.
It sets a bad precedent of which far worse could come of it.
