  Will religion ever be banned?

  i was asking because look at all the problems religion are causing :september 11,middle east crisis,waco disaster,clashes in ireland,paedophiles priests,suicide bombings,papal system etc.but think if masses of people protested it my not ban religion completely,but it could make a start to banning it.but the trouble again is that a lot of people want religion even if it is full of @*~t,yeh and why is it that people know theres problems in there religion but wont take a stand,why are religious people are such cowards to the truth.saying that though if i managed to get say jws banned from preaching i would be fulfilling bible prophecy mmm how cool lol

  I don't understand the point.

  Of course every generation before thought they were the most enlightened - at the time, they WERE. That doesn't change the fact that the conclusions they drew were frequently incorrect because the scientific method (which guarantees useful data) was simply not in place until recently. CERTAINLY, the communications methods that today allow scientists to check and re-check and verify each others work were never in place before.

  is abundant proof that it occurred that you are simply choosing not to believe.

  GODS, I have had this argument SO MANY TIMES recently. Sorry, but there is NO PROOF. Not ONE SHRED of evidence. First thing you do when starting a religion is claim divine inspiration and write a book or two to 'prove it'.

  Now, that eliminates the 'gospels' as a source (sorry, but the gospel writers, as founders of a new religion, obviously have a very obvious agenda for lying).

  Now, that said, find me ONE SINGLE CREDIBLE SOURCE. Guess what? THERE AIN'T ONE!

  Why won't elders factor depression in hearings?

  i have had two sons with depression and suicidal thought be disfellowshipped with the elders saying that there was nothing they could do; that depression was not an excuse for wrongdoing.

  i can't help but feel that this misses the point, that the depression could be contributing to the behavior and that the df'ing could push them over the edge.

  anyone else interested in pushing the society on this matter?

  Well, I'm sure as long as she wore a head covering when writing the letter, it's okay...

  it's a little better than in their darkest days when elders often exacerbated depression and suicidal thoughts by telling the afflicted that their sufferings were evidence of some spiritual defect

  You know, by the time I left (~1 year ago), it really hadn't changed that much, though. We had a family of sisters who all married young and had SEVERE depression. More attempted suicides between the lot of them than we have Indians fans in the area.

  ALL their husbands were elders or ministerial servants, too. You'd think, of all people, your own HUSBAND would be more understanding than simply towing the party line of 'not spiritual enough', etc.

  Just a reality check: that's only true if you hold his entire premise to be false.

  What if he is right?

  What if the criminals who are never caught in their present life are punished by the god's in their next by allowing their crimes to be committed to them?

  Yes, if you hold christian teachings to be true, this is quite an abhorrent suggestion. But, if christianity is a man-made religion, and it ISN'T true, then there are other explanations for things happening.

  (NOTE: this does not, IN ANY WAY AT ALL, mean the killer is not deserving of punishment. HE NEEDS TO PAY FOR HIS CRIMES. I just thought you shouldn't quite so casually dismiss a theory - after all, is 'She was raped and murdered because humans are imperfect' really any better an answer? Is it not merely more acceptable because that was what you were conditioned your whole life to believe?)

  As an aside, I don't happen to believe this is why things like this happen. As I mentioned above - gods are insane, we get the short end of the stick.

  Well, there are only the two references, one IS from a rather...unreliable...source, and the other was obviously doctored, so...doesn't leave a lot of confidence.

  What is really kewl about this hoax is that Jews and Muslims have also bought into it. *they both recognize Christ as a prophet who once walked the earth.

  You know, I've often wondered if the Jews bought into Jesus as a 'prophet' BEFORE or AFTER they needed Western support. From all the readings I've done, it really doesn't look like this is a teaching they've had for very long.

  As to the Muslims? I thought they believed pretty much EVERYONE who claimed to be a prophet was? (In the days of old, that is)

  Well, it's not hard if you think about it. I mean, look at what the early church DID to members who opposed their teachings. Is it any wonder it has spread so far?

  Of course, only christians are willing to accept that these foretold events have occurred already - no other religion does (even of those who do accept Jesus as a 'prophet' - none accept him as the 'messiah' except christianity).

  And, I tell you what, *I'm* sure glad the son of god and the messiah came to earth already, cause boy, oh, boy, is the world a better place now than it was before he came.

  Ah, well, I'm enjoying me stout, and it's late, perhaps we'll pick up tomorrow (unless these bastards we've hijacked the thread from come and try and take it back again!)

  We who are using only 3%-7% of are brains, trying to make sence of it all.

  Urban legend - we use 100% of our brains

  And, Francois, while I appreciate that crime still happens in this county, and crime can be made to 'pay', I don't think the problem is with the justice system, per se. We are already imprisoning FAR TOO MANY people for crimes they DIDN'T commit.

  The problem is with the government we have that allows - no, encourages - court bias based on income.

  As to the topic at hand?

  I think pagan teachings fit an explanation to the situation. Life evolved, but it was guided. Not by one entitity, though. There are too many 'groups' of life on earth, as it were, to believe one single being was responsible for an attempt at a united, harmonious planet.

  I think ISP (and the Greeks much earlier) had it closest - there may be divine beings, but they are petty and vain - only interested in humans as long as they get worship from it to boost their egos, and useful for nothing more.

  *MOST* the time. Sometimes, one of them may miraculously save someone. Just for fun. Then, allow another to be brutally murdered.

  Indeed, and can you prove it?

  Give me one - ONE account of a person who can prove Jesus existed (who did not belong to the 'christian faith' - and thus have an agenda for claiming so).

  There aren't any.

  There isn't A SINGLE ONE.

  NOT ONE.

  For 'the greatest man on Earth,' who walked on water, raised the dead, and founded the largest religious movement in history - don't you find it a tad odd that NOT ONE SINGLE SECULAR SOURCE can prove he even existed? SURE we can prove the early christian church existed, and that they CLAIMED they got their religion from an earlier source - but there is no proof of it.

  It would, in fact, be more akin to me claiming that because the Paul Bunyan tales are so widespread and so many people know them, then he MUST have existed and these stories MUST be true simply because everyone has heard them. With no more conclusive evidence than that.

  just wondering - my m-i-l receives several 'new age' treatments, and if the society printed an article specifically against yoga, i'm curious if they might have mentioned any other 'new age' practices.... anyone?
