Worldly Music to Avoid
by Nosferatu ini remember, one of the songs i was told was a bad song, was bridge over troubled water.
apparently, it's about drug use.
what are some of the "worldly" songs you were advised to quit listening to that seemed harmless?edited by - nosferatu on 16 january 2003 13:39:50.

Hello everyone. I need some advice. This will help...:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=44113&site=3 (My Story)
Last night...someone dear to my heart passed away. She was an elderly sister in the hall that my mother took care of. In time, she lived in our home and became my "grandmother". She had pictures of my sister and me in front of pictures of her own children. She was really a wonderful woman. She would tell me stories of when she was growing up..can't really go into more right now ....
Her mind started slipping away from her about 8-9 months ago and we had to put her in a home for 24 hour care. We visited and still cared for her as much as we could. She went senile in a short time and at a point...totally forgot who I was. So, in a sense, I have had alot of time to deal with this but it is still very devastating.
Aside from grief, I am scared crazy. My mother and the elders of the congragation have planned a memorial for her. It is going to be on Friday (or saturday?). It is going to be at the Kingdom Hall. I haven't been there in about 10+ months. I walked away. The same people who were mentioned in "my story" posting will be there. So will all the members of the congregation, who (aside from rumors) have no clue what happened to me.
Has anyone out there been through this? I told myself I would never go back but now...I am scared they will ask me questions....worse - pull my husband aside and interrogate him. I am going but does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this? I am desperate. I don't know how I will handle facing them all... Thanks....

Geeky things you did when you were a kid
by DanTheMan inwe were a very geeky bunch of late 70's-early 80's suburban american white boys in my neighborhood where i grew up.. but my all time favorite one that makes me laugh every time i think about it, was how we rigged up parachutes to our bikes using twine and trash bags.
we would ride down the street as fast as we could, and then let the parachute out, which was tied to the end of our banana seat.
we thought we were cool funny car racers.. another one was inventing a previously unheard of cuss word that we could use around adults while winking at each other and giggling.

I was such a nerd. When I was 8 or 9, I would make multiple ponytails in my hair, put shirts on inside out and backwards, with my socks rolled down around my ankles. I thought I was the coolest thing to grace the earth. I wore neon green bathing suits with "AWESOME" written on it in black. I was a fashion disaster.
Here's another thing I did that was really geeky and dumb. I would be in the swimming pool and use garbage cans as diving bells. I would have my friend jump on the top and sit on it while I was underwater, "exploring the depths". We took turns but it didn't take too long for us to get dizzy and have headaches from lack of oxygen.
One more thing, I set up a recording studio in my bedroom when I was 11. My best friend and I were DJ's. We would play songs and have traffic reoports, news and song reviews. I still have the tapes, its scary....
LOL....

The Pain of my Daughter
by LeslieV inmy oldest daughter wrote this to her father to show her pain of his choosing his religion over her.
of course, once he read the letter he told her he has just choosen jehovah.
she wanted me to share this with all of you, and especially if there are any jw's that are lurking on this board, to show what a child feels when religion is more important than your children.. dear daddy;.

That is so terrible Give your daughter a great big hug and let her know she's got love and support here. I have experienced the same thing and seen it happen time and time again (ie shunning DF'd members of the family, being turned against for decisions made) Its a shame and I thank my stars every night to be out.
