The last one that I went to - a few years ago- I also went as an outsider perspective. First, we went to the assembly hall where it was held and instead of being able to see the speaker, they had us sit in some other room and watch the guy on the tiny tv, while all the kids were crying all around. Which, we could have fit in the main section, what was that about. Then, in a monotone, they seemed to suck all the love of the sacrifice right out of it, like a vacuum. My dad was so proud and introducing me to everyone as his daughter, when usually when I go over to their house, he totally ignores me, and it was just this whole show to tell me that if I come back, look what I could have, I was mentally drained, for sure! I did enjoy going to Denny's after, though, that was always the best part about going to the meetings and stuff, going to Denny's after!

The FIRST Memorial Ive missed in 41 years
by Londo111 inlast year, my last jw memorial, i listened to the talk as an outsider would.
the speaker strung unrelated texts together and for the first time, i saw that the interpretations made no sense.
afterward, i had a private memorial with homemade unleavened bread and wine with four people--three of whom partook.

I've missed a lot! I have a sinus infection, so my mom wasn't hounding me about going. Our church celebrated the "Lord's Supper" last week. But not without having us examine ourselves first. I partook. I love those days!!

The World is going to end...
by The Quiet One in..one day, as will our lives.
any day could be the last day of our existence... with that in mind, how would you want to spend your final hours, if you knew that your life was going to end tomorrow?
what would you like to say on that last day, and to whom?.

I would probably go visit all my family and write posts to all my friends on facebook. Oh, I'd probably go out to eat somewhere and eat a bunch of different kinds of my favorite foods and eat lots of chocolate drink lots of espresso. I would probably stay up late hanging out with my husband and us crying together. Then when I couldn't stay up any longer, just pray myself to sleep. At least I'd die in my sleep (I'm assuming?).

Interesting Findings from the ESA Plank Satellite
by cantleave inthe european space agency has produced a fascinating map of the universe using the super dooper plank satelite.. by stripping out dust emissions and radio frequencies from the milky way galaxy and more distant objects to leave just the afterglow of the big bang, an image of the microwave radiation (measured over a 15 month period) has been obtained that gives an extremely precise picture of the universe just 380,000 years after the big bang.. what we have learned from this data is the universe is some 80 million years older than we thought, the universe is made up of slightly more ordinary matter than was previously thought - 4.9% of all matter, up from 4.5% - and that there is less dark energy (which cosmologists don't understand) than previously thought and also it has an axis of evil (it appears the early universe was assymetrical) and a cold spot!!.
so we need to go back to the drawing board with regard to inflation theory to account for the asymmetry and cold spot.. this is why i love science, the more we learn, the more we have to learn.
btw, god sisn't show herself!.

I was just noticing a pattern in "new light" or "new understanding" ....science always changing, JW always changing...it's like they both are a wait and see situation...I wasn't questioning the truth of either one...just the pattern. I'm a this is like that kind of gal and I have my own theories...they amuse me! :) I imagine JW fancy themselves as scientists of interpretation of the bible...they form a theory, back it up with "evidence" and then form a conclusion, then "new evidence" is "seen" and then a new conclusion is made...it's like kids playing dress up...in a way!

The reason they like to highlight the suffering of Jesus at the memorial
by Xanthippe inis so they can then use it as an excuse to make the congregation work even harder.
surely if jesus had six-inch nails hammered through his hands you can do more in field service.. if jesus could die of slow asphyxiation on the torture stake you can get to the convention even if you have four kids and two jobs or are 93 and nearly blind.. you are letting jesus down and making his agony count for nothing if you don't give until it hurts.. this is why they talk about a man being tortured to death in graphic detail in front of little children as i once was at the kingdon hall.
this is why i dreaded the memorial..

I thought it was to trick everyone into thinking they were a regular christian religion, so they can ease into it and then they can hit them with the weird stuff later!

Scientific findings remind me of the "new light" that JW are coming up with. Always changing...

How long did you keep rooting for Walter White?
by slimboyfat inisn't this guy like the greatest anti-hero of all time?.
as the series wears on it is getting more and more difficult to sympathise with the guy.
but i must admit i stuck with him pretty far.

Haha...this is our favorite guilty pleasure show! I am torn between rooting for Walter White and just really hoping he gets caught! When I found out he was the one who poisoned that kid...and how mean he's always been to Jessie and he killed Mike....I just really don't like him now. But when he said he would quit the business, I kind of started to like him again. Everyone deserves 2nd chances!

Well... I got my 'invite'
by Jim_TX inas most know, it's that time of the year when the jws go out 'in force' and bang on doors trying to leave their litter-ature for the memorial - aka 'memorial invite'.. this morning (saturday), i was at the local coffee shop - which is normal for me.
my wife was at home chilling on the sofa, in her nightie.. i got a text message around 9:30-ish saying that jws had been at our house.. when i got home, my wife said she was sitting on the sofa when she heard a light 'tap tap' on the door.
we have a doorbell.

I got a light tap tap on the door also. As I don't have a peephole on my door, I figured it was a murderer since they didn't use my doorbell. I opened the door cautiously and saw a middle aged guy and he gave me my invitation. I just said thanks and he smiled and left, didn't offer any other info! It was kind of weird, actually!

How Many on JWNet are still JWs?
by RayPublisher ini've been wondering about this for some time.
if there are 60,000+ registered users on here, what percentage are actual non-dfed or non-daed witnesses?
if it was 1/3, that would be over 20,000 active/inactive witnesses that post and read these pages- and that's huge.

Not df'd or da'd, just not a JW anymore either. Will dodge the judicial committee forever to avoid those labels!! Elders scare me, they always have!
