Anyone lose family over politicas?
by mickbobcat ini have two brothers who are never trumpers.
they can not get past that the guy is a bit obnoxious.
i have argued and argued that forget that he is a bit of misogynist and crude.

I have definitely seen the tension and there has been some arguing. What I don't understand is why people think a government is going to create a utopia. So, if a person is an atheist, then all the hope they have is in a political system? -

How do you personally deal with your still in family JWS ?
by Finkelstein infor myself i just try to avoid them intentionally maybe see them once every couple of years on average.
they used to be easy going but over the last 10 years or so they got more cult like and distant and i'm really not bothered by that, maybe a bit.
they stick to their own or other members like they are their family so, its makes it unattractive for myself to connect and reach out to them anymore.

For the 10 years I was out and not disfellowshipped:
I visited somewhat regularly so they could babysit. As my son got older, we didn't see each other that often. It was fine, though. Kind of like a family reunion. My dad rarely talked to me.
Now that I am DF'd. It's shunning, of course. My mom will message me on Facebook sometimes. At the beginning of the pandemic, she asked if we were all right. Our anniversary, she messaged happy anniversary.
It's not what the watchtower says, though, about that "little dose of association being enough." That "little dose" just kind of annoyed me.

I am from Florida and I had to get a diagnosis from a psychiatrist which was $300 because I didn't have insurance at the time. Then the exam from the weed doctor was $199, plus the money to get the card itself was over $100. Then, you pay about $189 every 7 months to keep the prescription active and $75 a year to keep the card active. Plus the cartridges and weed is really expensive, too!
But, I think it's worth it to do it the legal way.

Did You Have Good Relationships With The Elders?
by minimus inmy experience was that most jws wanted to have an elder “friend” just in case they got into any “trouble “.kinda like knowing that certain cop who might get you out of a jam.
.
of course there was another group who did everything they could to either kiss the elders’ ass or stonewall them anytime they came snooping around.. how did you and the “older men” get along?.

I never trusted the elders. It's because of the fear of that "back room"

For those who are STILL believing Christians...
by BoogerMan inthe latest watchtower of august 2020 discusses on page 15, "how will the resurrection likely take place?".
since learning real truths as opposed to the org's version of truth, has your view of the resurrection changed significantly?
just one example - regardless of psalm 37:9,11,29: matthew 5:5 & revelation 21:3,4, do you now believe that our destination is heaven rather than earth?.

Well, we all need support! :) We aren't meant to do life alone..so I have heard.

Well, there's this idea in the Bible of heaven and earth becoming one. In the garden of Eden, man, God, and the whole host of heaven lived together, but then got separated (exiled). And eventually we will all live together again. New Jerusalem is seen coming down from heaven onto the new earth. There's going to be a feast at some point, so that sounds cool, too. Exodus mentions a feast that Moses and a few others had with God on the mountain, so this speaks to that. It's really interesting! The Bible Project does these cute cartoon videos on various themes running throughout the Bible. I had not noticed them before!
But who knows?! We read the word, the promises made and we have hope. We see glimpses of realities to come (for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear). It makes life whimsical and full of wonder!
But, just a question for atheists:
Believers sometimes have doubts about their belief, and that's ok. Do atheists ever have doubts about their unbelief? Even for a second? Just wondering!

Will You Constantly Wear A Mask?
by minimus intoday, it will be 90 degrees and humid!
this morning i’ll be playing tennis again.
while most people have been holed up in their houses, i have regularly played the sport outside.

I wear a mask 80 percent of the time to grocery stores. It isn't mandatory here. I wear the mask to love others who are more sensitive. But you see I am not that great at it because I don't always wear it.

The ransom makes no sense
by BourneIdentity inif mankind needed to be redeemed from sin and death, why didn't the redemption happen as soon as jesus successfully lived his entire life without sin and sacrificed his life?
if he was successful, the price was paid and we'd all be living forever.
it's all bullshit, or jesus fucked up and sinned, so it nullified his sacrifice.
-

Cofty, while I know you don't believe in Jesus, I think you did a great job explaining his sacrifice using the Bible and the old sacrificial system! :)

The Joseph, story, as exploited by wt
by waton inthe current treatment of the "joseph " story at the wt meetings, uses him as an example of jws suffering, holding up under attack.
i reality the wt outfit is not the victim, but fits the 10 brothers that expelled, nearly killed that original whistleblower.
our example here, who prospered in different ways outside the wtbts inc's sphere of influence.

I will usually tell the Joseph story to people I talk to in jail or if someone is going through a lot of suffering. It shows God's sovereignty - that he had a plan that was going to save a lot of lives. This story is actually a foreshadowing of the story of Jesus. It's a great story and then the famous line at the end What you meant for evil, God meant for good!!
