It'll happen so slowly that those inside will never notice...Either that or the current or the next scandal will destroy it with lawsuits.

JW becoming normal religion
by Realist inam i wrong or is there a trend to make the wt to a normal religion?
first they gave up to predict who the new king of the north is.
then they stopped predicting the end of the world.

The friends, the truth and loaded language
by detective inas many people already know, using the term "the truth" to describe an organization's teachings is a brilliant way to constantly reaffirm it's validity subconsciously.
it's a great use of repetition to establish as fact that which is only opinion.. i keep hearing the phrase "the friends".
aside from the fact that i really don't like the terminology, i couldn't help but wonder if this isn't just another use of repetition and loaded language to enforce the belief that all of the people who share the same religion actually are your friends.. in some ways, i think it would be beneficial for some folks to drop "the truth" and "the friends" from their vocabulary so that they aren't continuing to immerse themselves in group-lingo that's intended to elicit certain emotional responses and associations.. what other loaded language can you come up with that is quasi-specific to jehovah's witnesses?

How about the whole concept of "the world", with it's "worldly associations", "no part of the world" and "keep separate from the world". No wonder I had no friends as a JW.

Zenpunk's theory and my addition
by imissthedub inwas reading zenpunk's thread about how it seems ex jw's go over the deep end and i tend to agree.
i think that is normal after being repressed for so long.. however, it would sure be nice if we had more than one chat room here.
i have visited the chat several times and it seems that usually (not always) it is about who was the drunkest, who had sex with someone, who is a lesbian, etc etc etc.

Hello again imiss - I agree with you. See - I didn't go "off the deep end" at all when I left. But I've noticed many who have - displaying shocking behaviour by almost all standards. And I've seen some of the chatroom antics you describe - it's kind of a shame really - but it all goes back to my theory. Anyway, you can be assured that I will never be rude to you in the room, so don't walk out on all of us! Take care -

Hi Funky -
This was in County Donegal in the early 90s. (I'm not that old yet!). I read about the "great apostasy" of the 80s, but thought I could handle anything. Ha.
And, BTW to Celia -
That elder is a grown up Wallkill Farm boy now, making pennies per hour!

SAAAADDDDD! What hypocrites! Maybe they should set up an "arranged marriage" site so that there's never the temptation to fornicate.

Q for Everybody, So let me get this str
by Legendary U.2.K. innobody here wants to lived in the new earth aka the coming earthly paradise?
nothing in the bible is symbolic, because saying things that are symbolic in the bible, is like calling jehovah a liar, god would not write something like in the bible, then out of no where, it really means something else... example: 144,000, some people said's that's symbolic, lol yea right.... .
anyway it seems like no one here wants to lived in the new earth, my question is why?

My Theory about wild X-JWs
by zenpunk ini was pondering this theory this morning - what do you all think?.
a few months ago i went to visit someone from my last congregation who is now also an x-jw.
what is interesting is that, though completely straight-laced within the congregation, he became absolutely out of control once he left and is now trying to figure out how to get his life together.

What is interesting is that, though completely straight-laced within the congregation, he became absolutely out of control once he left and is now trying to figure out how to get his life together. I've noticed this to be the case with quite a few X-JWs. So, being so analytical, I thought of a theory about this.
The unfortunate thing about the organization is that they make all the rules for you. Thus, when some people leave, they haven't a clue about their own personal "rules system" since everything was always decided for them - with the threat of the big DF to keep them in line.

I guess I've lurked around long enough - it's time to join my new family and tell the condensed (thank goodness) version of my experience.
My parents came into the org. when I was 10. It was a scary congregation in a small town. The PO was my dad's boss and he had complete control over everyone. You were either "in" or "out", depending on who you were. It was a scary dynamic.
I tried so hard to fit in but I was always "just a little bit different". I was never invited to socialize with the other girls. As time went on and I entered my teens it only got worse. But, I felt I just needed to "wait on Jehovah". I was baptized at 14 and became a regular pioneer instead of going to college (my dream). Still I was constantly teased and ostracized. I was always called into the elders for rediculous accusations from other girls.
When I was 18 a farm brother from Wallkill, NY became interested in me. The other brothers told him it was a very bad idea - that I was "strange" and not to be dated.
Now, in this congregation, the sisters got married at 19 and became hairdressers. The "farm boys" were swamped with the girls clawing at them. I wouldn't play the game and I wondered why I was always alone.
At 20 I went to Ireland to serve where the need was great. I thought this would change everything. It did. I was placed in a completely apostate congregation that was disbanded. When I came back to America over a year later I was completely disenchanted. I drifted aimlessly for two years and then drifted right out...to the horror of my parents.
But then, over the years I realized why I never fit in. I was too smart for it and, as a woman, intelligence and independence of the JW man is not tolerated in the "Christian Congregation".
I didn't waste any time after leaving. I went to college and now am 11 credits away from finishing a B.S. in Computer Science from a good private college. I've worked as an engineer for the past 4 years. I travel around the world, installing equipment, inventing equipment, and lecturing.
A few months ago I got a baby shower invite from one of the post 19-year old hairdressers. I chuckled inside as I threw it out. I stopped by my parents one day and an elder and his wife were over. My father was looking at a specification sheet for one of my projects. The elder asked me if I was the receptionist at the company. My words came back like a whiplash and his mouth dropped, "I was the primary engineer for this project".Best wishes to all.....
