Affection
by restorebeauty ini have dated a non-active (from birth) jw off and on for the past 3 years and i have noticed that he is not very affectionate at all.
i'm wondering was it part of the upbringing?
could it be that since the relationships were shallow this never was an issue.. has anyone else experienced this.. very curious

It could just be a personality thing..my bf is not affectionate either and he was never a jw.
I have spoke to him about and he is trying to do better. -

Nation panics as Alzheimers ravages Dear Abby
by Naeblis inchaos spread across much of north america last week at news that pauline phillips, author of the dear abby advice column was suffering from alzheimers disease.
pauline phillips began writing the column in 1955, after her sister who wrote as ann landers began writing for the chicago sun.
while spokesmen for the aging advice columnist insisted that mrs phillips was in fine physical condition and in good spirits, the growing buzz in newspaper circles is that all is not well in the advice empire.

Juat a thought
by Michelleatkin ini design and create t shirts ( at the moment for breastfeeding support and cloth nappy wearing support - slightly o/t ) and on the line of bumper stickers, wondered if it was worth considering t shirts with similar slogans for support for ex jw etc.
what do people think as to whether it would be a viable idea.
the t shirts could have unique designs for support groups or ones for individuals to wear and they work out at about 10 each incl of p+p in uk (probably not a lot more to ship to the usa by surface mail).

Stupid parent tricks
by LuckyLucy inas a child when i would cry (a big no no in our family).
my dad would say" if you keep crying i will give you a reason to cry".
if we spoke at the dinner table, he would reach across the table (did'nt matter how far away you were..his arm seem to grow) he would thump our heads as hard as he could(leaving a bruise).

Most of you make my life look like a day at the beach.
DakotaRed.......It is so awesome that you did'nt "let them win"by being just like your parents.
Your daughters apparently have always loved and respected you.By you telling them about your past.. I know they have even MORE respect and love for you.To have them tell you they had a great childhood...well it just does'nt get any better than that!! I just want to shout " Hip Hip Hooray!!
Puffs...i never trusted myself to have children either..
I get the feeling that most of us feel like the mental abuse was more damaging than the phycial abuse( although when being phycialy abused you are also being mentaly abused)We all heal from bruises but the mental pain can last a lifetime.
Now when my mom insults me it still stings a little...but I have to remember most of the time she does'nt know she is doing it ..it's just habit.

You just described my Aunt Erma's life....I never got the pleasure of meeting her due to the fact that the pressure was just too much for a 12 year old.She made one descision in her life(at age 12) and that was to take her own life.
I am so hurt that she did'nt try to "tough it out" easy for me to say.
I missed out on knowing a giveing and loveing Aunt... It angers me to no end!!
However..you are a survivor...Im glad you are still here ..to love and give.
My heart aches for you.

My mom used to refer to us as "her stupid kids"
For so long I really believed I was stupid...NOT!!
For so long I would not cry in front of others.
For so long I thought hitting people was acceptable.
Just curious of what went on in your home...the mean sayings and acts....that affected you long term
