To put all the decision-making power in a social structure in the hands of people who base their claim of authority on the fact that they have a penis is one of the stupidest things imaginable.
But what if it's a really big one ?
okay, what i want to know is honestly how many of you guys out there were actually attracted to the jw's because of the wifely submission thing?
and girls, how many of you actually had issues with the submission thing even when in the org.
?

i was 2500 miles away from any jw i knew.
i'm in the public library and i pick out ray franz's book "crisis of conscience".
i was immediatly enthralled by it, but totally paranoid i'd get caught !!
Here's mine:
I was 2500 miles away from any JW I knew. I'm in the public library and I pick out Ray Franz's book "Crisis of Conscience". I was immediatly enthralled by it, but totally paranoid I'd get caught !! So I get another book to set it inside while I'm reading so no one can see the cover. Who the hell did I think was gonna catch me?
at the service meeting tonight we went over this week's scheduled bible reading at 1) chronicles 10-12. the brother explaining the bible reading explained the example for young people:.
" what can we learn this week young people from rehoboam's example?
that when you have problems as much as you may be inclined to seek the advice of your fellow peers you should seek out the "older men" in the congregation for help.
Yeah StillA, No one is forcing you! You could just submit to the Brooklyn Crusties and be told your 'happy', OR you could be kicked out on the streets and spit on by your former family and friends. But for God sakes, you're always free to choose!
Look on the bright side.... You could always find someone to marry like DF'd to "head" the household so you don't have to worry your pretty little head off. That way when the annual Watchtower article on "Wifely Submission" rolls around you can be one of the sista's who raise their hands and say "It's nice to have someone make all the decisions for me".
Just consider it good training for the future.
Just kidding, why are you still "in" anyway? Gotta a song for you:
She's got her pretty little bare feet hangin' out the window
And they're headin' up to Vegas tonight
How could (22) years just up and walk away
Our little pony-tailed girl growed up to be a woman
Now she's gone in the blink of an eye
She left the suds in the bucket
And the clothes hangin' out on the line
i got final exams next week and on top of that an elder called me last night to "remind me" about my talk next week!
i didn't even know of course and i've got loads of studying to do already.
anyways, i've heard of sites that have "sample" talks already written out and prepared for you to give one.
Stilla, You're 22 hon....
i am truly looking for your honesty on this issue...not that i think any of you have been dishonest - i just don't want the sugar coated version of pollyanna lines.. i have spoken about this subject privately with one of you - ;) - and also with my hubby.
however, i'm wondering if i'm in the minority here when i bring this subject up.
being raised a jw i had to be so straight for so long.
Freedomlover,
You've been locked in a cage looking at life outside. Now that you're out all you want to do is RUN RUN RUN. So RUN then, just don't hit a tree or twist an ankle. Yep I was this way too.
Keep in mind that being in the JW's stunts your pyscological growth. Everything you needed to do was laid out for you (and more). Everything you should be thinking was laid out for you. Right and wrong were laid out for you. Hell everything that happens between now and when you die was predetermined.
You have to come into your own. For me this took a couple of (happy) years. The best part of being our of the 'borg' is knowing who you are, what you like, and coming to grips with yourself. In the "troof" we were always taught that we were more or less scumbags that needed a bunch of crusty old men to tell us what to do.
Some advice:
Explore, but don't self destruct. Your in a major life transition now give it time. .
Own your sh*t - Being a JW teaches people to conform and seek others approval. If you like to dance topless at a bar full of sweaty guys, your gonna need to own that. OK, maybe you should keep that one from the kids for a little while...:)
Get used to not knowing life's answers. 'The Society' had all the answers. Some people need that. Unfortunately life doesn't give up her secrets easily so get used to it.
When it all settles you'll find a peaceful place.
However, now that you know THIS LIFE is the only one you know FOR SURE you have, then get out there. You're not gettin any younger sista.
i grew up jw and like many of you spent countless hours in boring meetings and long assemblies that seemed to go on forever.
as a little kid i developed a talent for sitting at the meeting or assembly and looking as though i were paying attention but honestly i wasn't even in the room.
i perfected this over a number of years and now find that as a non-jw adult it's really a problem.
Don't worry limbogirl,
I do it to --- ALL THE TIME!
I guess it's because I'd rather be doing almost anything else.
i just returned home from the kingdom hall.
i am an elder.. after the meeting all the elders were called to the back room.
i thought this was an impromptu elders' meeting.
**Bing** bing** bing** bing!
Congratulations Gary, YOU WIN!
You see, the Watchtower Society is actually a top secret CIA experiment in social manipulation. One day we will use these methods to assemble an army of simpletons and rule the world. Bwu haa ha ha haaa!
The challenge: To see how much free time and obedience we can suck outa people.
The Methods: A combination of wavering teachings, guilt and fear of doomsday.
The prize for figuring out this is no way to live? YOU GET YOUR LIFE BACK !!! Enjoy, God knows you've earned it.
hi leftbehind and welcome to the board!
you've made quite a splash and probably received a few harsh replies (including mine).
despite my honest reply, i'm glad you've stuck around.
Bump for Leftbehind ?
unfortunately, because you live in the u.k., you may not have access to this.
but, if you do, then i think you and every one here should watch it, also, whether you are for, or against us being in iraq.

Wow, the words "US" Afghanistan and Iraq didn't made it into my post!

If I may jump into the fray...
Hubert,
It's clear that Saddam posed no threat to the US , which was the only rational justification for an offensive invasion of another country. Sure, it's easy to say that now in hindsight, but do you remember when the entire world was urging more time for inspections? Initially I felt some sort of intervention was warranted (after inspections confirmed what was touted) since our government was absotively certain he was cooking up tons and tons of weapons. But now that the truth of the matter has become clear, and Bush's pre-war maneuverings highly suspect.
Secondly, the people of - as dissatisfied as they were - were not so discontent that they organized a substantial rebellion. It's easy for us to have a cultural disconnect being thousands of miles removed, but in Saddam’s own sadistic way, he kept rivals in check and kept a relative order. Compare that to the civil war that's brewing now, and is almost certain to explode as the withdraws. If the civilian population did not see fit to revolt then, why are we to fighting their (apparently unwanted) battle for them? The fact remains, despite everything, most Iraqi's want the the hell out of their country.
Lastly, imagine if all the resources poured into were instead poured into , and within the . Instead of a hardened, sophisticated terrorist breeding ground (Iraq), they would merely be a harmless, discontented populace, uninspired to change their lot.
Sure I agree would we need to stay a little longer to see if we can salvage something, but in the process more needless American and Iraqi deaths will occur all because an illegitimate war was launched on a society ill prepared or motivated to change.
I suspect is set to unravel as Bush yields to pressure to get the hell out cuz we're not making progress. I think right now is "as good as it gets", soon to be followed by a sustained shoot-n-bomb civil blood-fest that will cause Americans even more shame for electing this moron of a President.
Simon, what's up with the editing problems?
