i thought that the wts had all of the answers, but now i dont know anything for sure, i am comnvinced though of the existence of god and that thers is more to life than what we are experiencing now.

but i am not going to get imvolved in the mechanics of worhiping god via religion joining them or to get enveloed in those believes .

i have a simple philosophy.

I think the first thing you "should do" is condition yourself NOT to be dependant on answers from anyone else. The Borg spoon-feeds people with all the answers and I think people (once myself) come to rely on someone else to chart their course in life. It's actually much more comforting knowing there are very few boundaries or 'answers' in life.

If you want a creed try this one..... "I have a simple philosophy. I want to enjoy life pursuing my interests and pleasures and I enjoy being nice to people. "

i got into a rather heated discussion this morning with my unbaptised but raised jehovah's witness wife.

we discussed so many things: feb 1 watchtower article on 607 and 1914, the un, beth sarim, blood, god's mouthpiece here on earth, etc.

this was yet another attempt on my part to try to plant a seed of doubt.

Netflix anyone?

this outfit is spending boku $$$ on internet advertising, as i see banner ads & pop-ups advertising their service everywhere i surf.. anybody use it?

is it worth the $20/month?

Yep, I'm trying Netflix. So far I love it. I pay more than $20/month in late fees some months at Blockbuster! I don't watch a ton of movies, but I don't always have the time to make a special trip to Blockbuster and listen to some pimple faced teenager tell me I have a late fee due.

What I like is that you can select as many as you want. They will not let you have more than 3 at once, but as soon as you are done with the first movie, drop it in the mailbox, and 2 days later you'll get the next one on your list. Right now I have 2 to watch and another on the way.

So far I have no complaints.

These Are the Best of Times (Or Are They)

just heard a very interesting discussion on the rush limbaugh show today - first time i think i've ever heard rush become speechless from a caller.

anyways, the discussion was regarding whether or not the generation of today (30 somethings & younger) have it better or worse then generations past.

economically, socially, etc., are we better off now then other generations?

I agree with analysis, Overall we (those of us in developed countries) are better off, live longer, healthier lives and have many opportunities before us. Those in less developed countries have seen their standard of living rise as well with greater (than previously) access to clean water and medicine. Not all things are rosey, but I hope the overall trend continues.

Are you talking about a recent awake that addresses the UN debacle? If so could you direct me to it?

Making 607 crumble

during my eight month long study with "elder bob" (moms husband) we have batted around many subjects to say the least.

but the one that really stands out is the dreaded date of 607 bc.

im sorry i just will not let up with this date, and him having to prove it can stand.

I'm curious too. Where is the abundant secular evidence supporting 607 as Jerusalems fall? If it's abundant, it should be.... well..... abundant!

If in your next post you fail to provide ANY secular sources indicating Jerusalem fell in 607, we can but only conclude that you are full-o'-crap!

So are you full-o'-crap? The secular support (or lack thereof) of 607 contained in your next post will tell the whole story.

I'm gonna throw my opinion in.

How many of us EX-JW's visit JW family members and are driven crazy by the whole mindset while we are there? I know with me I can only visit my relatives for no more than a week before I have to get outta there. It starts as only a minor nuisance but after awhile it becomes intolerable. If you are a householder you can always dismiss them if they come to your door. But if you are in the same household, you are a captive to their ideology, paranoia and pessimism. Conversations are often angled to reinforce their belief system. Life "in this system" can never be too good. Non JW's can never be fully trusted. Despite most things getting better in our world, JW's keep everything negative before them and blow it out of proportion. The cup is always half empty unless it pertains to the Society, kingdom hall or preaching. This dim world view can be stifling and the servitude robs enormous time and flexibility from relationships. As a non-believer, you are always regarded as a slacker, weak, proud, or materialistic to one degree or another. Imagine your kids growing up being taught to never really give you all that much respect or credit. Some may even be embarrassed of you.

It boils down to what you can live with. For me I gained a tremendous appreciation for the life I have now. This religion is like an insidious disease that slowly cripples those around it.

If you can get your wife and kids out great! - you saved them all.

If you can only get your kids o.k. - at least you saved them from it.

If you only walk away with yourself intact - you saved something.

Globetrotter, something is compelling you to act. I'd listen to that. Unfortunately there is no silver bullet. Most do not come away unscathed - but we all know that already. Do something, you'll be happier in the long run.

BTW,

I agree with everyone else, this is going to be a futile attemp. But I suggest, whatever point you try to make, stick to just that point and be crystal clear about it. If you hope to show your wife any of the flaws in their teaching you must stick to one thing, keep it simple and clear, don't get bogged down in other issues. You want her to walk away with only one topic to think about. Don't run the gamit.

Refute 607 the easy way.

Keep it simple !!. Make one point and only one point regarding 607. This has worked for me on a couple of occasions.

Background: JW's came up with the dates 607 (for Jerusalem?s fall to Babylon), and 1914 (the last days) all from the interpretation of one dream recorded in the book of Daniel. The Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream involving all sorts of imagery. JW's gave meaning to these images to come up with their wacky dates. However, if you simply keep reading the account in the book of Daniel, only a few paragraphs later, Daniel himself explains the interpretation of this dream. He explains to the King Nebuchadnezzar that this dream applies to him. There's no 607+ 7 time periods + day for a year = 1914 formula is mentioned at all. Daniel plainly says what the dream means.

Step 1): Ask how they come up with 1914 in the Bible. When "Tree Dream" mentioned in the book of Daniel. Have them read it to you and explain it. STAY IN DANIEL as much as possible. They are going to give you all sorts of explanations regarding the significance of all of the items mentioned in the dream. Make them continue reading until they get to the part where the prophet Daniel himself, gives the interpretation of it (Daniel 4:24).

Step 2) Say "The Bible clearly says what this dream means..... What gives anyone the right to change the meaning?

Step 3) Keep quiet and listen patiently. (They will come up with something)

Step 4) Say again "The Bible clearly says what this dream means..... where in the Bible does it say the meaning of this dream is different from what Daniel actually says it means" ?

Step 5) Insist they show you from the Bible, where it gives them license to creat a special interpretation of the Tree Dream in Daniel. This is the Achilles heel.

Conclude saying: ?I don?t see anything in the Bible that indicates any other meaning for this dream than the one Daniel clears states ? that?s why none of the predictions surrounding 1914 came true.?

Supplemental questions for them:

Why didn't Jesus mention this new, special, JW interpretation of the dream??

Why didn't any of the Apostles mention the dreams new meaning ?

Is it possible that the dream really means what Daniel say it means AND NOTHING MORE?

Could this be why the generation of 1914 DID pass away?
