Seriously, my dad did it a couple of years ago. Don't know why. He just stepped down one day and that was it. I think he was working through his depression.

i really hope to get a ton of responses for this topic, so even if you're just browsing through postings and topics, please add your two cents...however brief.

i am really curious to know who our "heroes" are, those people we admire, identify with, emulate and recieve inspiration from.

feel free to even list former heroes and perhaps why you were taken with admiration for them at that point in your life and maybe why you don't feel that way any longer.

Davy Crockett - frontiersman, Representative, and fought and died for what he believed in. Admittedly, the acquiring of vast stretches of Texas from the Mexicans, but hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time. The anglo community there didn't want to be ruled by the madman Santa Anna, so, he wandered over with his gun and a couple buddies and fought like heroes at the Alamo. I just found out that Ozzy O peed on the monument. Drunkenly peeing on the Alamo? Although, I imagine Davy peed on the Alamo when he was actually turning it into a monument.

I've never encountered this usage of the word "resume" before. I think you might mean "condense."

Anyway, to sum up the Bible, I'd say, "Faith, Hope, and Love. The greatest is Love."

whenever you read the society's publications regarding "apostates" and those that simply leave the organization, you will see how the watchtower will try to make such ones horrible persons.

they are said to be "rotten, like gangrene, those going back to their vomit".

they are said to re-adopt all of babylon the great's terrible practices.

I celebrate holidays for the first time in my life. I'm looking forward to my birthday next month. I'm looking forward to Halloween, and Christmas.

If that's vomit, why is it so pretty? Why is it so much fun? Why is it upbuilding and family oriented?

That sounds like "jealous" talk to me.

All right. I won't laugh at it. I have my own experiences with something protecting me.

But to try to exploit it, and to make people feel like God has abandoned them because they didn't pray hard enough is a wicked, wicked thing. To make it seem like the WT's brand o' religion extends some kind of force field around its true adherents is ridiculous.

I think that God protects us more than we know... If he arranged matters so that you NEVER realized just how close you'd teetered to the edge of oblivion today, how would you know?

Can An Empathetic Person Be A Racist?

Empathy is the imagined sharing of emotion with another INDIVIDUAL. Since racists refuse to acknowledge that members of their hated group are inidividuals that do not all act the same way - then empathy can't apply. Empathy starts with the basic willingness to imagine oneself in the other individual's position. They have closed themselves off to the experience of empathy with their false doctrines of racial behavior.

It's a shame that the whole race debate turns inevitably into a Social Darwinian ethics / mass murder revulsion, since the question of how much of our behavior is inherited v. environmental conditioning is a fascinating one for me, since nobody can answer it.

Can an empathetic person be a racist? Yes. Since they will probably be empathetic to those they view as individuals, like their family for instance. Can a racist be empathetic? Not in context of his racism, which views his own race as supreme and all others as "dogs in the barn".

Drop racism. I'm a Republican, and I hate what racism has done to my party and to my country and to my fellow Americans, white and black alike.

MLK was right when he said that when blacks are equal to whites, it will be the whites who will truly be set free, because racism ultimately denigrates the racist to the level of tyrannical, terrified barbarians.

Sigh...
