"This is what happens when you form an association that is only supposed to last for a few years, until "the end comes." Years roll by and the organization, never designed to last for decades, finds itself 120 years old, adrift on a sea of speculation, with no direction home."
Very interesting thought!

The Watchtower: Sincere Old Men or Deliberate Deceivers?
by metatron inwhen a witness encounters injustices engendered by the watchtower and considers them.
with clarity of mind, he is likely to suppose that , at worst, the old men who run things.
are sincere but misguided.

by observador in... the tsunami disaster relief.
i'm glad i found that out today before sending my own donation, as they will match, dollar for dollar, the employees' donation.

Go Back to the Kingdom Hall and Leave Us Alone!
by steve2 inhas anyone else observed or even taken part in the strange phenomenon of defending something even when you have doubts about it?
it's not a new phenomenon; i think freud called it "reactive formation".
i notice every now and then, jws and/or their supporters tentatively surface on the jw discussion board.

"Ive tried reasoning with one person who has been inactive for 20 years and its frustrating."
I have felt precisely the same way. I have learned that the mere fact that one is out for a large number of years doesn't necessarily mean they don't support the WT or the JW religion any longer.
The indoctrination is so great that quite a few people not only support the "Organization" but also think that is all their fault, even though they're OUT. It is really sad!

Asian tragedy: not the "end of the world"...
by observador in... as i am sure some jws will spin it.
as i told my mother once, exagerating a little, they love when tragedies like these happen, as these seem to validate the beliefs they hold so dear.
as tragic and sad as these events in asia are, it's not any signs of times; it's a natural ocurrence that humankind has to learn and prepare to.

Look what I read this morning and you'll see:
"Sunday's massive quake of 9.0 magnitude off the Indonesian island of Sumatra sent 500-mph waves surging across the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal in the deadliest known tsunami since the one that devastated the Portuguese capital of Lisbon in 1755 and killed an estimated 60,000 people."

Somebody- Please Help Me UNDERSTAND?
by upside/down ini understand there is a ton of anger out there toward the wts and dub's, and rightly so... what i don't understand is this notion that there is an evil conspiracy on the part of the wts and dubs as individuals to subjugate and control the unwary (or however you want to label us) for some evil sinister purpose.
i know what they are doing and agree it's wrong but to what purpose- i mean you can look at televangelist and see what's up with them (follow the money).
but what's up with the dub's.

Positive about jw

learning from jw about cristmas is one of them
the jw were very open about cristmas, going against the "system" require some strenght and that in itself attracted many to the jw org.

I think the analysis of BluesBrother is basically right. Let me share with you a little story:
I have a co-worker who has a son who lives out of State and he started talking about things that the family would do for the holidays. At some point he said that his son was going to India. At that moment, I asked surprised why. Then he explained that his son was a Sikh Muslim. Now just so you know, the Sikh faction is probably the most extremist and fundamentalist one of the muslim faith.
Then I asked why his son was attracted to this religion, to which he said: "he had a very tough time growing up; was involved with bad company, drugs and all. Then he moved to a comunity where there was this Sikh followers, and it was these people who straightened him up".
The point being: in every group, you may find some positives. Finding positives, however, doesn't mean that the balance is positive.
Interestingly, the point the ONE mention, Chrstimas, I view in a totally different light today. Christimas is viewed today as a time for family gathering and confraternization. I don't think it has much to do with religion anymore, if it ever had.

That is one more example of how much double-speak JWs use. At one moment we are really loved and praised from the platform; at the next, we HAVE to be hated and prosecuted, because this has to happen to "true christians"... Go figure.
Ohh, and both times the audience goes CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP....

LCD screens, do you have one?
by JH inthis week, i'll go and buy a lcd screen for my computer.
try to fit a 4:3 ratio picture into a 5:4 ratio screen, and it will distort.
i'd like to have your feedback on this, if you noticed any distortion in your pictures when you changed from a crt 4:3 ratio to a lcd screen 5:4 ratio.

JH,
jwbot is right. I Just want to stress what she said about color in LCD monitors. If you do graphic works quite a bit, you may want to reconsider. People who do graphics prefer using CRT precisely because of color reproduction.
