Copyrighting a translation of the Bible is understanble. The problem here is that the WT has said since its inception that all JW must 'advertise, advertise, advertise', and if you don't, you guilty of the blood of those you failed to 'advertise'. So, preventing you from advertising what the New World translation or any of their books says verbatim doesn't make sense.

The other authors of Bible translation out there don't say that if you don't advertise the 'good news' according to their Bible you will die at Armageddon.

So, the more the JWs hear 'don't record', 'don't publish', 'don't share the talks', 'don't even say the I... word', the more thinking JWs will go awry. Good!

Attended DC this weekend, quick recap...the End may not be imminent could take a million years but its still coming

attended the dc this weekend in california with a jw acquaintance of mine that wanted to go 'jw man-hunting' and didn't want to go alone.

she knows i'm not active and haven't been to a meeting in a long time and have no interest in jw men.

i think she feels like she has the best of both worlds with me, anyway it was interesting...the gb appears to be changing their tune and i don't think the masses even realize it.. br.

Thank you for the report. Sounds like the GB is preparing a carefully controlled erosion of JW hope.

Interesting the point about not 'looking to current events to measure how close the end is...". I remember that the Awake master-head use to contain something to the effect of 'it search under the surface, looking how world events fulfill Bible prophecy... bla bla bla".

I can understand how a newly converted JW would buy this, but cannot possibly grasp why/how an old timer, even averagely educated JW, 30+ years in the "troof", could still accept that. It's a complete departure indeed.

In the past 20 years, have you seen a balanced, educated adult not raised by JW parents get baptized as a JW?

i am not criticizing those who have gone through depression or a traumatic experience.

nor am i criticizing those who were raised as a witness as i was.. but i am curious to know if any of you have seen a person from the territory, not a relative of a witness, no recent tragedies or emotional problems, not a young runaway, not a drug user, but an educated adult who began a study with jehovah's witnesses, and eventually got baptized.. when i was a missionary, i met a gilead couple who had been in their assignment for 19 years.

i asked them about that.

No, I have not.

This reminded me of a Calendar (don't remember the year of it) in which there were several cases of people with screwed up lives who became a Witness and were now happy. The idea there was tha the Organization does a lot of good to people. My opinion, though, is that that was a shot in the foot.

At that time I was still a JW and kept thinking "what the heck's going on here? Is this the only type of people we can attract?". I felt unconfortable.

At least in previous years, the calendars had pictures of paradise in them... :)

sorry to say, but the Watchtower actually WON that case. Here's why: first, we have the court saying that the girl should have her legal expenses paid for by the state. Second, the court is saying that "mature" minors should have some saying in future medical decisions of that type.

The Watchtower not only is having her money back, but will also coach their young victims to the point where they can cause a good impression on the judge in future cases.

Result: no blood transfusions for minor, sick, brainwashed JWs. This couldn't be better for the Watchtower.

The JW religion wants to have it both ways. Remember the Divine Name brochure?

Every time the WT is able to dig an old document, sculpture or anything that says "Jehovah", they say "See? Jehovah has been used for such a long time... This is the real name of God".

And yet, in the following moment they say "see? we are the only people approved by God. We are the only people who use the name Jehovah. That's proof positive we are Jehovah's people".

Go figure.

Sunday School Teacher Indicted for Murder and Rape - Still Lots of ?????

as some of you may have heard about the tragic rape and death of an 8 year old sandra cantu here in california in the town of tracy - there are still a lot of unanswered questions which beg to be answered and indeed the young girl's brutal murder cries out for an answer.. in case you missed it, to sum up briefly this young girl went missing from her mobile home park the end of march and for about 10 days the police and volunteers put on a massive manhunt .

then finally after 10 days some farmworkers found sandra's body in a suitcase in an irrigation pond only about 2 miles from her home.

search warrants were put out and neighbors were questioned including a baptist minister , his wife, and his 28 year old grandaughter melissa huckaby whose 5 year old daughter played with sandra all the time.

Bizzy, thanks for sharing that story. This case is disguting any way we look at it.

But here's what you stated in your post:

Now, if you compound the special circunstances of a case such as "a woman who murders a child + the child is under the age of x + the woman has a child of her own + the woman also rapes the child", etc. Well, all of this circunstances combined make the case rare, but this is beyond the point, right?

We were talking about how women are capable of, and really do commit, heinous crimes.

Though she obviously wasn't murdered, Noni's account just shows that point. My other point was: men are punised more often for crimes (sexual and otherwise) than women. What do you think would have happened if it was a boy rather than a girl who had done that to her? I think he would have gotten serious time in jail. Noni's perpetrator may have not gotten any time at all. She may have gotten some "counselling".

This has to change.

I took the '1914 Generation' prophecy seriously, did you? Do you even remember it?!

i was born in 1964, 50 years after 1914. even in my teens i was doing the sums.

i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!

i figured i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

Nellie and all, thank you for sharing this. Nellie, your feelings are so real, and your description made me go back in time when all those "wonderful" conventions would be held... oh boy.

This teaching was real; I took it seriously; not only that, but I would use that scripture along with the WT reasoning at the doors and show people that the end of this "wicked system of things" was soooooo near.

However, in 1995 I was already taking care of myself, going to the university and fine-tuning my professional skills, and so, though a fervent JW at the time, I guess I was a little sleepy at the meetings; not realizing the full implication of the teaching's changes.

What happened to me and many of you is so common: because JWs don't usually compare notes on what they read on their literature, they don't get the full implication of the teaching's changes until sometime later.

I agree with Avishai here. There is nothing rare about females doing these types of heinous thing. I also don't think she's protecting anyone.

All it takes for a woman to do this to a child is for her to have a sick mind combined with herself having child who is either sick, less pretty, less talented, etc. etc. who makes her feel extremely jealous or inferior.

It's funny, everytime a woman commits a heinous crime, someone comes up saying 'oh women don't do these things'. Well, they do, and both society and the legal system have to punish them the same way they do when a man rubs a child's bottom.
