For cyin' out loud, I look like I'm fixin' for fight. I was smiling up until the microsecond before the flash. No modelling contract for me I guess. Really, folks, I had a great time.

It was a really nice time. Its quite a rush to meet folks in person. I wish I didn't need to leave - the Winterhawks lost anyway though my kids had a great time. It was my first time meeting anyone from the board.
Lost Diamond: I go to Beaverton a couple times a week and if you would like to borrow some of my books, just let me know. You could swing by my office to pick them up.

"Apostate" Books
by mackey inhere's a list of books that i have read with the hopes of getting my best freind out of the jw's.. 1. crisis of conscience ( she has it, don't know if she'll read it).. 2. in search of christian freedom.. 3. combatting mind control.. 4. releasing the bonds- empowering people to think for themselves.. 5. rescueing your loved one from the watchtower.
(david reed).
6. answering jw's subject by subject.. 7.awakening of a jw (diane wilson).

Of your list, I've only read 1 and 2. I am still astounded by the tone Ray Franz was capable of delivering while relating such a personal history. I could never have come close. Though I have read many others - ranging from the mudslinging 'can you believe what idiots they are' stuff to factual, soft-toned history and explanation of beliefs.
Others I reccommend: "The sign of the last days - When" is a detailed breakdown of the signes that JWs use to infer that the end is now. It explains how those signs are no more prevalent today than at other times over the last 2000 years.
"The Gentile Times Reconsidered" is a detailed study of the timeline touted by JWs as proof that the end of the Gentile times was in 1914. I focuses heavily on 607 BCE as the destruction of Jerusalem by Babylon - nope it was 587 and therefore blows out the timeline. It is a quick read unless you try to memoorize the evidence contained.
But I'll say this: nothing has been more startling to me than to reread the older books that were considered the conrnerstones of the WTS. Once you have read some of the 'apostate' books, take a look at the books you remember. Read them with a new, critical eye. You won't believe it. There is very little logic, less proof. You will be amazed at what feels like a wad of mud slung at the walls and offered as proof. You will be amazed that you once accepted such mud tossings as a logical line of reasoning.

Peaceful: Yup. More than thirty. But I have zippo intenciones of going into a KH to save money on a book. Plus I feel like I'm supporting someone who left the org. Anyway, I thought he wanted a NWT version. I'm not really that much of a scholar, so I didn't know the other ones were available. I'm glad you could add the suggestion.

This is a link to an auction for a Kingdom Interlinear translation. They come up every now and then. It is a side-by-side, word-by-word reference. You will see a line of Hebrew, and directly underneath it is a translation for that word. Then on the right you will see how the WTS rendered the string of words into a sentence.
I bought this one. Expect to pay between 30 and 60 for it.

So I joined the board because I noticed a couple people that likely knew some old friends and could perhaps give me an update. So I started communicating with one in particular and had a real nice experince.
Strangest damn thing though, the guys I was conversing with were JJrizo and Pomegranate. To this day I can't reconcile the two personality types: the ones I read on the board, and the ones I was e-mailing with.
I am hoping to meet some folks in the Portland/Vancouver WA area sometime soon. DakotaRed lives with a mile or two and there are a few just across the river.

"Peace and safety for all of mankind" <snaps awake from his dream of being a beauty contestant>
In all, I feel I've led a pretty charmed life. I would like a little more of everything - an inch or two taller, a couple hundred grand more in the bank, ability to play the guitar, more patience.
From the 'if I could do it again list: I would prefer to go through high school as a normal kid that hung out with his peers from the AP classes, a kid that did not feel compelled to look down on everyone else just because they weren't in his cult. I think life in my 20's would have been a bit easier.

Did Anyone Ever Like The Dramas?
by minimus inat the district convention, the highlight was always said to be the dramas.
did you really look forward to them?
was there one that ever stood out?

Buster
Look, we all had to be there. The DCs were long, boring, almost intolerable for teenagers, unless you met some ... well, you know. But if there was one part that was a change of pace, it was the dramas. For that reason only, I looked forward to them.
