New J.W. strategy? I need to vent !!!

some of you know i have a daughter and son-in-law that is involved with the j.w.

cult.. this is because of the influence brought about from my daughters aunt, who is a full blown (brainwashed) j.w.

cult member, and her family, too.. my daughter always loved her aunt, even though she was in the cult, which is fine with us.

One time my then-teenage daughter asked me if she could attend some local church group with some new friends. I told her 'fine with me, as long as we sit and I tell you what to expect, and we review what happened.' We had several good talks. As her association with them progressed she eventually decided to have nothing to do with them.

Of course the effectiveness of any approach will depend on how indoctrinated she already is. But I sum it up this way: Education, education, education.

Education: Study a set of 'We are the Only True Religion' sects/cults. They love bashing other groups. She may notice, perhaps later, that the JWs exhibit the same traits, claim the same things.

Education: Read up on Logical Falacies. Witnesses use a variety of flawed logic to convince those that want to believe. Study things like circular logic, strawman, ad hominem, etc. Learning to spot those will help her see - if she wants to see.

Education: Take her straight to the beliefs that their recruiting methods hold back. Show her what the JWs think she is not ready to see. Explain that all babies, with the exception of those belonging to JW mothers will be destroyed at Armageddon (that one seems to work pretty well with women). Take her to Quotes' web site and show her, in JW publications, the loony things she will be expected to believe - without reservation.

There was a thread a few days ago about circular reasoning. How 'bout this one!. We read the bible to get and understanding, AND we use our understanding to translate the bible.

Bringing reproach on Jehovah's name? My step-daughter to be DF'd

why is it considered that a person's bad/poor actions bring reproach upon god?

i don't understand this one bit when i hear my husband talk about it.

my stepdaughter is most likely going to be df'd soon (for being a typical teeneager as far as my worldly views).

I would consider that to be good news. If she gets DFed and you ar there to provide support that she cannot find at the Hall, maybe she won't go back.

But specifically to your question - The above posters are correct. I would add one item. The 'reproach' thing is a catch-all. Its is used when one isn't doing what the elders want and they cannot find any other firm basis fro DFing.

in view of the transit bombings, do you feel that police should be able to search you or your bags at anytime?

Of course they should.

And we should all get subdermal chips and scan at every intersection and entrance to a public place. You see the fact that the police may have no reasonable basis for requiring access to my personal effects should in no way hinder the general population's right have its storm troopers use any means necessary to imbue us with a fasle sense of security.

Its nice to see that everyone else finally understands that the ends justify the means.

Blood transfusions just a leftover?

it appears that prior to c. 1952 the watchtower was against all medical treatment.

it was then they announced that medical treatment would be a matter of conscience -- with the exception of the use of blood.

is that a fair conclusion?.

Not too long ago I read a book that suggested that the 1950s drive on the blood issue was due to Franz' need for an issue - something to invigorate or distract the sheep. The date-setting debacles were too recent, WWII was no issue, and the society had no issue of urgency.

I find the idea unprovable, but interesting.

Home schooling is disgusting. (And I don't want to hear about special-needs exceptions.) Home Schooling is the answer to "How do I raise a blithering idiot?" The damnable parents that want to isolate their kids so that they only have a chance to learn from their parents are blind and abusive. The hubris of thinking that children can get all they need, socially and intellectually, in such a small environment, from so few people makes me wanna wretch.

Circular Reasoning, wherefore art thou?

the phrase, circular reasoning, seems to be a popular one on this forum.

one poster even said, "the watchtower society uses circular reasoning in almost every article they write...".

an online definition of this phrase: "...reasoning in which the proposition to be proved is contained in one of the premises".. if circular reasoning is so rampant in the society's publications, can someone quote an example?.

Every time they point to 1914 as that oh-so-pivotal year as prophesied in the scriptures - and then point out that it must be the prophesied beginning of the end because it was so pivotal in human history.
