  Out of the Mouth of Babes...

  so this week on the service meeting there was a part in the km about divine education.

  true to form, it was another anti-college, pro-pioneering propaganda piece put out by our buddies in brooklyn.. in the third paragraph, it babbled forth about how colleges and universities don't teach people to overcome racism, tribalism, and something else.

  (someone please post scan on dec. 2005 km front page).

  I've said it before, "Homeschooling" is the answer to the question, "How do I raise a blithering idiot?"

  Homeschooling, parents fall into one of two catregories: 1. So self-centered that they think the only valid point of view that their children can benefit from is their own. 2. Have so little faith in the viability of their offspring that the parents doubt that their darlings can make it.

  It is unfortunate that morons are the ones that think they can teach their children all things. Tough time in history to be the child of a moron.

  Yeah, yeah, some out there homeschooled their kids and their kids didn't turn out to be blithering idiots. Fortunately, it doesn't work every time. Sometimes the kids have enough mettle to make something of themselves even though they went through homeschooling.

  But other than that, homeschooling is OK, I guess.

  Ridiculous "Revelation Climax" Book interpretations

  i used to be so into prophecy and actually loved the climax book when it first came out.

  now, i can't believe i bought into that bs.

  anyhow, name a ridiculous climax book interpretation.

  The lunacy in the Climax book is important. For one, it is a contiuation of the drivel they had been teaching for most of the 20th century. Some here will remember that going through the Babylon, published in '63, book during the '70's. It teaches the same crap. But that religion has always claimed it had all the answers, so they have to have answers for that LSD trip called Revelation.

  Of course it is ridiculous, and any outsider would see it for the self-centered, self-congratulations it is. But why is it important?

  It is important because of the content of those conventions that are the prophesied trumpet blasts. Each of those conventions had a key message. Most (all?) of those key messages are replaced by new light. Those key messages were wrong. Those key messages were false prophecy.

  Example: One of those conventions was the 'Millions Now Living Will Never Die' convention. That was back when they believed that the end was coming in 1925. Of course this teaching has been replaced by New Light.

  The problem for the dutiful dubbie is that they have tied themselves to the old false propehcy by claiming it was fulfillment of a biblical prophecy. That is to say, they still claim that Joe Hoba fulfills biblical prophecy by delivering false prophecy. They cannot use the "New Light" claim to separate themselves from this one.

  There is no way around that.

  The Reaction to the Big News at Work Today

  i work at the department of health here in washington state.

  i took two copies of barbara's initial post (infomercial) regarding the news and the links.

  what i got were people highly skeptical of the voracity, and highly suspicious of the university that published it (baptist so therefore not really credible in the subject of law).

  You work at the Wash. DOH? What program/division? I spent the last 5 years there, managing projects in the Div. of Drinking Water, WEDSS, Health Lab in Shoreline, and the Center for Health Statistics.

  Funny thing about the DOH. They got a bunch-o-dubbies, especially in the WEDSS program. Do you know them? I can only imagine what one of them would say.

  (If you don't remember, you and I met at the apostafest in Portland a couple months ago.)

  My first Father- and Mother-in-law were both big cheese in Puerto Rican theater and television: Luis Vigoreaux and Lydia Echevarria. (Lots-o-great stories about that family.)

  Bedridden morbidly obese people

  every now and then i see a news article about a 600 pound man or woman who is so fat they are bedridden and cannot get out of bed.

  they normally need a family member to clean them on a regular basis and feed them.

  i once saw an article about a man whos skin had literally bonded with the fabric upholstery of his couch and needed to have to fabric surgically removed.. ive been sitting here wondering.

  are you serious?

  Serious as a heart attack. 60,000 calories was the estimate of one 700+ pounder. Taht was the amount he was puttin' away as he was gaining. You can't do that without help.

  Anyone with extremely obese people in their family knows it is a very complex subject involving lifelong habits (perhaps addictions), deep-seated emotional problems, genetics, and social interactions with enablers.

  For the most part, the super obese are dangerous to themselves and others. They suck up energy (yeah, along with a lot of pizzas) from those around them. The truly successful super obese have a whole passle of enablers that live off the need to be needed. A bedridden lump cannot possibly round up the 30- to 60-thousand calories a day some of these behemoths ingest. Its a black hole of codependency and all those involved deserve their share of blame.

  But I too saw that show others referred to. The most interesting part to me was from a guy that had lost 800 pounds or so, then gained most of it back. His point was that eating addictions are unique in that everyone has to eat. He asked, 'how high would your expectations of recovery be for an alchoholic that for some reason literally needed a few drinks a day?'

  Darned interesting point.

  It's snowing in Seattle!!

  very unusual for december 1, but it is really coming down.

  i have to pick up my granddaughter after school at 3 and it's almost noon now.

  i hope it doesn't stick much.

  Few things I have seen rival the insanity one sees when it snows in western Washington.

  When snow starts, or I hear it may start, I get my butt home. I can drive in snow. But I can't drive with these people driving in snow.

  I'm glad it hasn't snowed in Vancouver/Portland for a couple years.
