Ahh, also the Tower of Babel - remember the people wanted to build a tower up to heaven. Well, if God (who created the circle of earth that hangs upon nothing) was so smart then he would have known they would not suceed right? Then why did he have to step in and intervene?

Circle of the earth
by donkey inbible believers are so proud of the fact that the bible talks of the "circle of the earth" and try to use this to say that the bible is inspired because it obviously was ahead of it's time in establishing that the earth is not flat.. congratulations.
umm...umm...ok now then why does daniel 4:11 say the tree grew all the way into heaven?
and when satan decided to tempt jesus he took him to a high place and he could see all the kingdoms of the earth...... now unless jesus and satan could see around corners...how do you explain this?

Believers - You need a new revelation to explain this!
by Amazing inyes ... you heard me correctly.
sometime ago we saw how chimps made tools by using other tools.
we saw how they learned language and could construct a basic sentance on their own, as well as learn to read a little ... well now ... a new study has been completed where monkeys were paid tokens for completing certain tasks ... the monkeys saved up their tokens ... and then they were offered to trade their tokens for things like food, etc.

Still a lot of "I can prove your theory is wrong, so that proves my theory is right!" thinking.
Actually, that is not how I see it. Evolutionary theory, and science generally, do not disprove the supernatural God of Judeo-Christianity. Evolution does undermine some of the important arguments that have been put forward for the existence of God. Evolution is no more atheistic than is medicine. Both fields exclude supernatural interventions in explaining the phenomena that they investigate. For example you wouldn't expect your doctor to say "We stopped researching your disease because we believe it's a curse for having displeased God, so your only treatment is repentance."
I personally happen to be an atheist IN ADDITION to seeing the facts science has unveiled regarding evolution. If revelation of alternate comes about I am quite willing to change my views, something quite unlike believers who completely ignore all evidence in favor of faith.

Who really belives that there is a Satan
by Singing Man inis there any real evidence that there is a satan and a bunch of nasty demons?
it seems to be implanted on into our hard drives of our minds through the bible and religions litature.. it seems to me if the bible told us the moon was made of swiss cheese and religious litature said pigs could fly most humans would agree at once.
one mans opinion.

SW,
I said:
Creationsists try to instill the idea into their fellow believers that evolutionists claim man comes from apes. It is just another example of the intellectual dishonesty in religion and believers. It is a simple strategy - twist what evolutionists say and make it seem ridiculous so that your followers will ridicule it and see it as absurd and not even entertain the notion of exploring the claims of the other sideI thought the idea of man descending from apes was the dumbest thing I ever heard….little did I know I was right in my thinking but incorrect in my knowledge

For those who claim no evidence of evolution I would cite just one piece of evidence: Genomic mapping and sequencing. If you read pre-genomic writings regarding natural selection and understand what evolution is really about – not some creationist spin like “humans evolved from apes” you come to appreciate that all living organisms today share a set of common ancestors (not that the current living things evolved from other current living things).
Now that is absurd and there is no evidence you claim? Well, darwin could never even have dreamed how strongly DNA and genomic discovery have supported his earliest ideas. As an example, consider what Walter Gehring did in the mid 1990’s. He picked one of the “complex systems” to prove this with - the eye. It’s ironic because creationists liked to point to the eye as a complex system that they thought disproved evolution). Gehring discovered that fruit fly, rat and human(in fact all living things) eyes all stem from the same gene. To prove it he removed the gene from fruit fly embryos and the fly was born without eyes. Then he removed the gene from the fruit fly embryo once again, and replaced it with the eye genes from a mouse. Voila….the fruit fly was born with…yes…a perfect fruit fly eye (a complex eye). Once could refer to countless other examples we have discovered in genetic research in the last 20 years. He then took the fruit fly eye gene and replaced the eye gene of frogs with the eye gene from the fruit fly - and the frog's were born with perfect frog eyes.
The real question creationsists should ask is: WHEN (not IF) evidence is stacked up as high as a mountain to support evolution – what will you do? Will you still refuse to accept facts? Or would you have the open-mindedness to question your beliefs (unproven that’s why they are called beliefs)? I sound arrogant in asking this I know. But I used to believe like most creationsists. I thought the idea of man descending from apes was the dumbest thing I ever heard….little did I know I was right in my thinking but incorrect in my knowledge. Once I quit believing without learning the real facts my whole life changed and I have never looked back (even with my fruit fly eyes).

IMPORTANT: No more politics, soapboxes and whinging.
by Simon init seems that politics are once more taking over the board.. when things are discussed properly it's not a problem but alas, it seems some can't help but start throwing insults and labels around.
i keep reading about "you left wing communist loving liberals" and "right wing facists" and really, it's getting very tiresome.. can i suggest we tone it down please.
think before you post and don't be surprised if you include insults in your post that it will just be deleted.. also, unless you are interested in having a discussion and hearing opposing points of view without getting all pissy about it then don't post !

Abortion, Capitol Punishment, evolution, gun control, right vs left, American Imperialism. Free Will vs Determinism.
Why are these things brought up on this forum
Well you listed 7 topics and of those 4 fall strongly in the realm of religion. So is evolution now forbidden or abortion or the death sentence or free will?
I don't think Simon meant that we are not to discuss the religious things...
If challenging commonly held religious views is wrong then I guess I need to have that pointed out explicitly.

Why abortion shouldn't matter to a Christian
by rhett infirst off, let me say that i am not a believer of the bible and am totally against abortion.
that being said, i'll get to the point of this post.. this is something that has bothered me even when i was a jw.
kids are judged by the holiness of their parents.

The answer to your question is not for any of us to know.
If Christians take that approach (ie. we are "unknowing") then how can you have a position and be judgemental of something you don't know?
Isn't that like making much ado about nothing?

You know let's take Christians. Most Christians are pro-life (anti-abortion) etc. They claim the fetus is a human life and they also claim that humans go to heaven or at least the innocent/good ones and the bad ones go to hell. So if that is all true then aren't we doing the fetus (ah human) a favor by sending them straight to heaven and removing them from the chance of going to hell? Is heaven eternal bliss? Then aren't we sending the fetus (baby/human) straight to eternal bliss? Can Christians explain this inconsistency to me?
As I see it here are the possible logical outcomes:
- Innocence is not enough to qualify for heaven - so then did the fetus/baby go to hell?
- OR We are interfering with the future free-will of the fetus/baby - if that's true what's the problem - again I ask did the baby/fetus go to heavenly bliss or to hell?
- OR We just don't know and Christians are looking to condemn someone for something else?
Don't hate me because I disagree with you Christians...use your logic and prove mine incorrect. I look forward to hearing from you.
