Donkey's never-ending atheism thread
by donkey inwih the permission of simon, i would like to start a thread to act as a collection of thought, quotes and miscellany on atheism and agnosticism.
there are so many other threads on this subject but no one place which one can go to on here.
i have much to share - enjoy and contribute with me please.give me the storm and stress of thought and action rather than the dead calm of ignorance and faith.

Such reports persist and proliferate because they sell. And they sell, I think, because there are so many of us who want so badly to be jolted out of our humdrum lives, to rekindle that sense of wonder we remember from childhood, and also, for a few of the stories, to be able, really and truly, to believe-in Someone older, smarter, and wiser who is looking out for us. Faith is clearly not enough for many people. They crave hard evidence, scientific proof. They long for the scientific seal of approval, but are unwilling to put up with the rigorous standards of evidence that impart credibility to that seal.

The grey rain streams as tears through the sky
Heaven is dull and I dont know where to turn
I miss you so, I don't know where to go
As I think about you I miss you more and more
My heart aches it is so sore!!
Please God take the pain away it is too much for me to bear
If only I had taken the time to learn how precious each ticking moment would prove to beI still remember you singing me a lullaby
You cleaned the sores on my knees when I would fall
When I needed you you were always there
Life was always so certain because I always had you for backup
I could face the world - never worried about failing
You were talways there with kind words, words to encourage me to be the best I could possibly be
I excelled - not because of me; but because you were there - failure was never an option
With you there for me I could only succeed at everything I triedThen one day "they" came and took you from me forever
The time was wrong
I am so devastaed by it even now
I am all grown up
and all alone
You showed me how to touch my own emotions
I was not from the mould of calloused men
"It's Ok to cry" , "know how you feel"
"Learn from Life"
All these cliches sing now to meI face the world - feeling very vulnerable
Will I succeed? Did I make it because of luck?
What if I fail? How will I know what to do?
You aren't there to love me just for being myself
Everyone wants to love me for what they want me to be in their own mind
I am no longer free
Life was better when you were here for me -

Believers, why does God need your flattery?
by IronGland inwhy would an all knowing master of space and time feel the irrepressible need to be adored by mere insects (relatively speaking), and indeed punish them in the most absolute of terms if they fail in this task?
indeed it makes god seem very human, although rather immaturely so.
we expect such behavior from schoolyard bullies, megalomaniac dictators and small children who demand adoration from their beaten dogs.

Athiests and Christmas?
by clash_city_rockers ini was just thinking.
since christmas is about the birth of christ, i know dec 25 was not his birthday, probly born around late sept or early oct. i guess he wanted to be born right before the baseball playoffs and world series, just kidding.
it was the early christian church that appointed dec 25th.

Even Donky has to capitulate to the truth of Christian thiesm when he celebrated christmas
I don't celebrate it. It has pagan origins.

Who or What is God? Who Cares?
by MrMoe inlately i find myself struggling with the simple fact that i do not believe there is a god, let alone any realm beyond the physical realm we are aware of.
as many of you who know me know i am fond of tarot and astrology, for sometime now i find myself doubting the real significance of it all.
is there more to life than this?

Kant said that even if God does not exist, it would still be wrong to awaken these fools from their "philosophical slumber."
"Because," says Kant, "it would deprive them of their zest for life."
Kant believed that if we, atheist, succeeded in convincing them that there is no God. They would start committing mass suicide
But what Kant neglected to mention is that waking someone from a philosophical slumber is nearly impossible. Unless they're sleeping very lightly, chances are they just won't wake up when you hit them with sledgehammers. As a result, arguing with Christians online only seems to wake up those already willing to doubt their religon. Those who look to the Bible as the first and only truth, as a matter of course, cannot be convinced otherwise. (They're logic is wonderfully circular. The Bible says it is the Word of God, therefore it is.) Those already in doubt, however, can be 'saved' in a non-traditional sense, and brought over to agnosticism or atheism

Where is God?
by donkey inwhy does god allow this stuff?
according to your teachings, believers, just so he can stroke himself and show how man has failed.
in fact believers will read this stuff and shrug it off because in the future god will fix it it and it just proves why we need god..
