The Borg's fear of demons (Worship Bk, chap 18)

one characteristic of dubs is a preoccupation and fear of the demons.

their literature contains descriptions of a contest between the creator god and satan, such as found in their recently publication worship the only true god.

Demon believers are dumber than a box of rocks.

They quote schtuff like the devil was set to devour the kingdom of god and the whole world is lying in the power of satan and his deeminz....that type of nonsense.

Now they warn us not to have demonic stuff in our homes such as a wind chime (it was invented to ward off evil spirits ya know). Well if satan and/or his pet deeminz are so powerful that they control the world or they could devour the kingdom of god...why are they so powerless that by me removing a windcharm they are immobilized? Or why if I burn the smurf on my desk will the demons be driven away from me? Are they so pathetic that they need to use a smurf to get to me?

You can't have it both ways guys...are they powerful or aren't they? Do they control the world? If so why can't they just send Bush over to stick a nuke up my ass?

in january, 1876, when he was 23 years old, russell received a copy of the herald of the morning, an adventist magazine published by nelson h. barbour of rochester, new york.

one of the distinguishing features of barbour's group at that time was their belief that christ returned invisibly in 1874, and this concept presented in the herald captured russell's attention.

it meant that this adventist splinter group had not remained defeated, as others had, when christ failed to appear in 1874 as adventist leaders had predicted; somehow this small group had managed to hold onto the date by affirming that the lord had indeed returned at the appointed time, only invisibly.

by free will in

how many of you, like me, want answers to biblical questions but get overwhelmed by all the information to research?

the task seems so daunting that i just tend to say i'll read the cliff notes in someone's post and make my decision based on that.

i know i'm falling into the same trap that i fell into with the wbts but i guess i'm a follower and so many of you seem to have such a better handle on all this biblical stuff.

Seriously...I was joking when I wrote the prior post in this thread, but its one of those things - like "until I see big foot myself I don't believe he exists"....its more a type of colloquial conclusion than an evidenciary one.

i haven't had much chance to talk to atheists before, and i was just wondering what was it that convinced you that there wasn't a god?

i'm not asking whether there's proof of god or not...i'm just curious about personal feelings and experiences, if you don't mind sharing.

Atheism is NOT: the belief there is no god but atheism IS the lack of belief in a god.

Once people understand that then you suddenly find many who call themselves agnostics in the atheist camp.

I hope you are well. I too have been where you are...in fact once you get there there is no way out except by lying to yourself. What I have learned though is to live with it. I came to question everything I believed or was supposed to believe according to what I was taught as a JW.

I now no longer accept something as truth. In order for me to buy in to something I seek demonstrated reality which can be backtested. I will not invest time, effort or money in something which simply "sounds good". I question (without answers) the existence of god. I find no evidence of such a being - and just because things in the world seem pretty or glorious doesn't mean there is a god....all I know is that somethings in the world are pretty or glorious...it is not a logical next step for me to assume there is a god.

Does this lead me to have a meaningless existence? That is a tough question for me...the answer if I think long enough and honestly enough is YES. But then I think of others who claim to have meaning....and I think about the meaning they claim to have and I realize mostly it is an exercise in self-deception so their's is meaningless too. I have an honest existence, I am honest with myself about how I feel. I am honest that I feel and wish for meaning - and I accept that meaning can be relative in the eyes of the beholder, yet if I have to expereince some altered state to achieve the meaning then is it for real? Some would say yes and some would say no. I say I don't know.

Aortic Stenosis

i just got back from the doctor,he say the echocardiogram reveals aortic stenosis,narrowing of the valve.however,i have no symptoms of this,and so he is scheduling me for a visit to the cardiologist.. i have done some research on the heart and this problem,in the long run valve replacement is usually the way to go.. i need to wait and see what the cardiologist will recommend.that's it for now.. blueblades, trying not to be anxious.

(((((BigTex))))) - that was the first time I have read part of your story. I am so sorry for what you endured. I truly respect and admire you for what you are and who you are today. It takes courage to say what you said...courage I don't have.

I agree with you and with Reborn. I think there are moral abolsutes in a given situation... Reborns example is a good analogy of where a moral absolute is situational.
