Yes - read that article when I was a young person - now arthritis, back-painand constant sickness make me wonder - is it all a dream - or am I looking in the wrong mirror as I see all the wrinkles and blemishes - was the article only written for Dorian Grey? Should The Age Of Consent Be Lowered To 13?

Also, lowering the age of consent could be beneficial as it would allow youngsters to seek proper contraception and medical care.
I think that this is not an issue as youngsters ( of the age range you refer to) now can seek such advice withoput any recall to parents/guardians ( minors are afforded privacy under the various Data Protection Laws)
As Simon has noted - nothing will stop young people having sex with other young people - Laws or no Laws - what Society needs is some form of restraint/punishment on those who abuse/misuse/mislead youthful/childish innocence - the Laws are there to prevent people past their teens taking advantage of others of minor years who are impressionable, easily lead or plain inexperienced. If you lower the age to 13 when does it go down to 12 and then 11 - the ratchet of lowering standards will always move things down not up. As parents such Laws are of no value - punishing abusers is itself irelevant - what parents want is a society in which young girls and boys can enjoy their childhood without it being stolen from them by a permissive society or predatory individual.

Circuit Assembly Report
by Hapgood incoming out of the lurking mode to give you all a report on the 2 day ca that i attended this past weekend.
i always enjoy other reports that have been posted so i thought i would share my observations.
i attend with my jw hubby to keep him company so he doesn't have to go alone, that's the only reason that i go.. i didn't take any notes, so i'm doing this by memory.

I thought the accounts report was very interesting (it's amazing what xjw's find interesting). From the last "Special Day" Assembly held last spring there was a $2,000 surplus, that was ALL sent to the Society (I couldn't believe it). The Elders voted on the Saturday (of this Assembly) to send another $500 to the Society (didn't say what that was for) and another $200 to help pay for the CO's apartment. When the accounts report was read yesterday (Sunday), it was stated that for two days the cost of this Assembly was $10,000, as of yesterday they were $5,000 in the hole. When I heard that I almost said out loud "you've got to be kidding", I looked around no one seemed to notice that anything was out of the ordinary with this amount of money. That Assembly Hall must have been payed for long ago, it was built around 1976. I would love to have a break-down as to exactly why it costs $10,000 to have a 2 day Assembly.
Not sure how they can vote to spend money they dont have - scriptural principle here is "to count the cost" before etc. Actually this is a form of taxation - we send the money to the society - we then have a deficit - guess who pays? real people should be allowed to spend their own money as they wish without this form of regular enforced donations. If I wanted to donate to the society I was always free to do so - if some idiot forces me to by spending (as a resolution to the society) the surplus over costs and then moves the whole affair into a deficit I think that Trust law would hold the elders responsible for a fiduciary failure or malfeasance.

i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.

One brother decorated his house in '74 and said ".thats the last time that this house gets decorated in this system...." he's still living there but has had several new carpets, paint jobs etc - we were told 1975 was IT - it was no speculation - COs gave special talks to witnesses only on the Saturday evening of the visit and explained the "absolute" chronology. Near hysteria reigned as every new magazine was scanned for further news - biggest let down was the complete lack on any recognition by the Society that we were still in this system in 1976, 1977 oh and still here in 2003.

When I discovered this site I was having serious doubts re the Truth - what I read here and in print helped me see the real truth of the picture
What I do note is that this board has a personality but it keeps changing - no fault of anyone - the reflection of the posters makes the personality. Is the personality Simons - I dont think so - he only has 24 hours in a day anyway
Lots of references to people hurting others surprises me - why leave the truth to do that - just stay in and carry on as normal.
As an entity this site is private property - again no problem with that - I was disappointed when, looking at the members directory, some member names are specific insults to Simon (or crude wording added to his name) - now I have never met Simon but would ask a couple of questions - if you are not happy why stay? as the board has no "constitution" or rules of governance (yes I know there are some posting guidelines/rules) which anyone can appeal to to overturn any view/comment/decision of Simon or a moderator why do some view the site as "their" p[roperty.
Most of Simons attempts at good management strike me as common sense but life has told me that is in short supply. From time to time Simon does appear to react rapidly and with a mans cold logic and blunt response can be seen to be dismissive, even rude - (I would hate to have to email him in the workplace!) but that should be put down to the pressures on him from work, time, family, the board etc. He owns the show - we have never had elections for "elders" here - I trust his basic common sense although (like me) he can react too quickly and over-react or appear cold and logical - what man doesnt?
Does this mean I will leave - No - I think it is time to move on - many here seem to have stopped putting their lives on mortgage to the WTBTS but now put all (or far more than I can imagine) of their efforst into this and other sites - where does the time come from?
Financially this site must cost something to run - I know that ads pay something - not everything - I have never seen/read/or heard of any appeal for money here so must compliment those involved on this - as a non-contributor (I imagine that is most of us) we have no ownership and cannot quibble if those investing time and money to keep the show going make decisions we may have issue with.
This site is a collection of individuals with some common "heritage" and with no common goal as I can see - we all escaped but are not working as a group to co-ordinate the rescue of others - not that I think we should - its a fact that we are all here we different agendas and skills. What is common is the emotional hurt, distress and loss the Truth has marked us with - permanent scars which i think are responsible for much of the occassional rancour seen here. Accept others as victims also - reach down into the ditch to help them up and out. So easy to push them back as the WT is so expert at. Ask yourself - who have I helped today ? How have my actions helped me personally in my journey to healing?
Dansk and others have used beautiful language in posts here to describe the situations many of us know. I know of no other place where such could be seen and appreciated by so many and must say they have assisted me greatly. Humour has played its part and I aait keenly a post from Runningman on any topic/
Who could go through another day without Minimus Daily Text based on Who, Why.When,Where & How?
I have looked at Silentlambs and have every sympathy with the aims they promote, but cannot agree with some of the methods involving personality abuse. Each judges for themselves - I dont want to make judgement in public but my style is not the style they promote (please dont tell me about abuse - I could repulse you with details from personal experience but do not want to add to the existing hurt of so many)
I have read here of some called "drama queens" - so what if they are (and who is to decide that?) all life is variety and if dull conformity is what we want we all know where to get that in truckloads. Please - differences do not make enemies - debate does not reveal enmity, opposition to a view does not make one an opposer. What this site has provided (to the extent I am capable of judging) is a free environment for many damaged ones to turn to for help, or just to express themselves. May it ever be so.
Sadly of late some of what I have seen here reminds me of my wasted years in the WT - politics, backbiting, playing on emotion -
Having seen the UK Armistice Celebrations and noted the huge diversity of people represented and laying wreaths brought to mind a key issue here - we are all diverse in background, ethnic origin, education, lifestyle - we should benefit from that huge reservoir of varied talent - in the Truth we claimed to have that but it was not so - let us celebrate here the diversity without creating distinctions or favourites (because every favourite breeds some lessser soul who is oushed aside. It is a great privilege for me to be able to tap into the skills of this diversity
As my life moves on I have less time to come here but must for now thank all those (many who I have PMd) for their help & support - we are all walking wounded - please do not add to the injuries on anyone here by abrasive, rash or sharp "clever" responses
I (and many of you) have so much to catch up on outside in the real world and, thanks to this site, we are now able to cautiously map out new lives for ourselves, with new horizons and hopes. Many Thanks to you all - Will drop in for tea sometime!

Reading the quotes from the article does not appear to me to show any inference of dates / time periods etc - when the whole '75 thing started it was specific - I just think we may be reading more into this that is actually there ??? Not that anything the WT writers come up with would surprise me - I look forward to the September 2014 issue of the WT and its potential cover title - "Millions now reading will swallow anything we cook up."

Disassociation and Ray Franz
by greatteacher indoes anyone think that the rule which states that "associating with a disassociated person is a disfellowshipping offense" was created to disfellowship ray franz?
the reason i ask this is because i noticed that the watchtower published many articles with that rule at the same time period franz left bethal, but published nothing about it before around 1981.

According to Benner (the CO that was assigned to Ray's DF'ing--was CO when I lived in Florida), he was asked by the boys in Brooklyn, to find any means possible to get Ray out! Benner also said that Brooklyn, disavowed all association with the matter and any law suites that might follow were Benner's problem!
Typical scum tactics to work through a mouthpiece whilst distancing themselves from the problem in public. Not much different today when elders cannot quote any directions given that may incriminate the legal/service departments. Sad that vermin like Benner are willing to act as stooges and not as men - as I recall he was the person who claimed to "parrot" his directions from the GB
RF was a problem for the WT just because he was NOT acting as an apostate or troublemaker - quietly attending in Gadsden and making no stir or waves - his books came after he was DAd and may not have been written had they left him alone. Serves them right that his books have cause so much defection - all as a result of their targeting him for action. Who says God does not work in mysterious ways?

An Elder Visited Me Today At Work

i was told that i was very missed by him and many others and he got teary eyed.
i told him that i truly appreciated his concern and always liked him as a fine person.

Discretion is the better part of valour - well done Minimus - do not get dragged into controversy with them - it serves no purpose - wont change them and will only lead to potential trouble for you & yours - I also get odd looks from current JWs who think that ii have been "stumbled" and will come to my senses and return- have the last laugh we HAVE come to our senses and I for one aint going back

JW view of sex is puritan - the Public Talk (No 13 A Godly View of Sex and Marriage) does provide a basis for husband and wife having a mutually fulfilling sexual relationship but against that is the overall tone from the WT, elders etc that condemns anything which is not "normal" or "straight" what is normal or straight? Not for me to judge but the puritan outlook intruding in the marriage bed is offensive. A fruitage of this "morality" can be seen in the fact that many young JWs have rushed into teenage marriage so that they can legitimately have sex and look at the results in broken marriages/homes dfing etc
Given that the resurrection will eventually populate the earth (JW teaching) then does this mean that only those alive at the big A will conrtinue to have sex relations, as those resurrected are "as the Angels" (sexless) "the children of the resurrection neither marry, nor are given in marriage..." seems like a good reason for a loyal dub to try and stay alive through the tribulation or else become a mere bystander in matters sexual!
