You Have One Shot.
by Englishman inyou're out somewhere, shopping maybe or in a restaurant or bus queue, whatever.. you've not been to the meetings for a couple of years, you are now an inactive person.
you might even have da'd yourself or got df'd.. you suddenly realise you are facing or stood next to someone that you know is a jw.
you also know that they know that you were once a jw too.. the person greets you and starts up a conversation with you.

Are You Going To The Memorial This Year?
by minimus ini think it's april 4th.
(i think).
are you going?
-
core
No - why would I - I wasted my life to date with the Organisation and its control so attending a Memorial to Christs Death will not give me back what I have lost or replace the lost years - nor will it make me "repent" and return to the flock.
Are you going Min ?

No different at all - usual differences between standards applied in each circuit/congregation but you are right to sense trouble ahead - over time the GF will be alienated from "worldly" people and absorbed by the borg.

(As promised) BETHEL TRIP part 7. Loosing my balance
by seven006 inas i was trying to settle into my new life i constantly plagued myself with questions about where i had been and a bigger question, where i was going.
in the mid eighties there wasn't easy access to any exjw's to ask questions and help me through a very difficult transition in my life.
today the internet offers a lot of support through a large collection of exjw's from all over the world who offer many various options based on their own personal experience on where to go once you are out of the cult.

Question for the British re: Anschluss
by IronGland inbritish, when er..if a referendum is called to decide on the annexation of the british isles into the us, how would you vote and how many of your countryman would vote against it?
-
core
Only problem with your question is to assume we Brits will be allowed a referendum - whatever the Govt wants it gets - tied into Europe / Annexed by Alaska - if Tony wants it - we get it - this is the only Democracy with the old one liner from our PM - it's one man one vote and I'm the man

Were Most Of The Elders "On The Ball" In Your Congregation?
by minimus ini think most of the elders relied on the "smart ones" to help them out.
my experience was that there was probably 2 or 3 "sharp ones".
the rest were dopey!

"On the Ball"... well most wanted the title, but did not want the responsibility - decent elders burnt out rather than let loose some of the freaks who had been appointed when issues arose - clear split between elders now -- out of date pre 60's older ones , newer time servers and the real problem the career elders, young arrogant and deadly - I know of one who managed to put of permanently 5 people in the space of a few months as he pushed his nose into their affairs.

When grandchildren visit as they crash through the door it's as if the Sun is shining right in the room...what a beauty...enjoy every precious moment of pure childish innocence...you say she wont wqrap you round her little finger ?? just wait .. you would do anything for her wouldn't you?
Being a grandparent - does that make you feel any older ?

Black Dog Of Depression.
by Englishman ini used to suffer with depression.
it happened to me twice, the second time was far worse than the first.
each episode lasted several years.
-
core
Yes I can truly empathise with you E-man - Depression has dogged me for most of my life - in the Borg the "do more" "responsibilities" "service lead" etc made life hell - getting out of the Borg temporarily added to it as the guilt trip kicked in hard - now financial stresses are an absolute nightmare (not planned to be working so late in this "time of the end") and like many ex dubs forsook a profession for humility and poverty.
Now the absolute sheer horror of our situation engulfs me constantly - and without the "resurrection hope" or hope that "armageddon will come" to end all my worries - yes, sadly it looks very bleak out there ( suppose in some ways when we were "in" we viewed aramageddon etc as an insurance policy to release us from this systems financial burdens ) -
not a days goes by without thought of wanting to be dead - only worry over those left behind really stops me ending things. A wasted life, wasted opportunities, all my valuable assets and skills sacrificed to the molech of dubdom with no reward or payout -no friends to speak of - family alienated - only way I can sleep is to drink and I have never really liked the stuff but now its all that can help me switch off the absolute sheer futility and even worse future that I face -
looking out at the bright Moon shining at the moment makes me want to cry out to a God somewhere "WHY?" - the utter futility of everything just overpowers me immensely - why were we so stupid - is a God or Gods just laughing at us?
Tried medication and that just made me ill - palpitations, quivering, feeling dreadful - any more on how to cope would be most welcom
WIll try walking past the stream and meeting the girl in white E-man!.

Summer convention "warnings"
by got my forty homey? inanyone remember those kingdom ministry parts we had to attend a month before the summer convention about not saving seats and not eating during the program.
even our behaivor in the hotel pool was admonished!
and don't walk around the halls during the program, hold that boo-boo till intermission holmes!

Fairly or otherwise, it paints a picture of a rabble that's unaccustomed to travel more than a few miles from home and oblvious to obvlious to standards of behavior at public venues such as hotels and restaurants.
And a pretty fair picture at that - behaviour of mos witnesses when let loose at Hotels etc was appalling - complete disregard for other guests/staff - first pigs at the trough every time.
As I recall Hotels regularly complained to the convention admin about the JW behaviour - let youngsters near a Hotel Pool and mayhem rules. The constant reminders struck me as aimed at the Western World - seemed not to apply to third world countries - are JWs worst behaved in the affluent west?
