UK investigation report into JW procedures
by dozy init is an open secret amongst elders in the uk that the charities commission has been investigating jw procedures with regard to child protection , particularly following the porter case (an elder who abused children in millhill , the host congregation for the london bethel.).
copies of the report are available below.
it appears that the wts may have to produce crb (criminal records bureau) checks for all elders , something that many brothers have requested for some time , though the wts are dragging their feet (as usual) on this.. http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/library/investigations/pdfs/lonmill.pdf.

Took some time to read the Charity Commission Report and other posts on this. Does this mean that any of abuse or financial fraus cases involving an elder/min servant/officer who comes into contact with vulnerable members of the cong, needs now reporting to the Chrities Commission? If so I hope they take on extra staff.
To have to report such matters to an outside body ( and one with very wide ranging powers) must have sent a shudder down the spines (???) of the elite in Mill Hill. I am writing to the CC to ask them if they would confirm if this is the case. Most of these instances in the past have been subject only to the closed secret process of the Judicial Committee, now the congs would seem to need to explain how the situation happened.
Also - in this report the Charity Commission insist (not recommend) that Michael Porter NEVER be appointed as an elder/trustee - presumably this applies to all abusers - will any who have been allowed back after "serving time" out of the elder team, now have to stand down.
WT Policy is that abusers CAN regain privileges after many years, this seems to clearly (and rightly) say NO - once an abuser they position of trust has gone forever.
I am also asking the Charity Commission if they will clarify the position re notifying the congregations as to WHY a person is removed - "supervising" them as the WT has said is to happen to Michael Porter is a waste of time (HOW will it happen??) and when they move on, if no major press scandal, who in a new congregation would know of the dangers of allowing such a person to be in a position endangering anyone young or old.
Congregations need specific warning about the likes of Porter just as much as they might be warned about the dangers of crossing the road - if only the elite are in knowledge of the dangers posed how can others be safeguarded - experience says thay cannot.
If Porter was "repentant" then in WT speak he is clan and a fit and proper person - in my book he is a real and present danger and always will be
Sadly he is not the only one of this sort in the WT.............

I wonder if the Cong involved will get a payout from the "worldwide" insurance schemewhich they "donate" to on the basis that it allows for
insurance coverage in all area of globe - bet they get the RBC sent in to do a quick and low-cost patch up
If they had "real" insurance then the cover would be comprehensive

Blood and UK Law-can anyone answer?
by Gordy ini have recently received the following questions.
anyone in uk, or anyone, have and idea on them, or know of any information.. what is the law regarding this in the uk at the moment?.
if, for example, a jw with a no blood card was in hospital and unconscious after an accident, and needing blood, could his spouse give consent for a transfusion in his place?

Can a kh trustee have a criminal conviction?
by badboy inwhat is charity commission position on this one?.
let say, a trustee was convicted of tax offences.
would that affected whether they could be a trustee.. .
-
core
In the UK potentially yes - in fact the Trustee is a Trustee of the Congregation (Not the KH)- all elders in England & Wales are de facto Trustees of the local Charity - The Anytown Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses - the branch office did refer to exceptions whereby a Bankrupt for example could not be a charity Trustee (but could be an elder) - If a convicted tax fraudster was a Trustee then the Charity Commission would doubtless like to know!

US Presidential - race of minnows in pursuit of power
by core infirst - yes - i am in uk and have no vote and possibly no right to overly criticise.
be that as it may i must comment that the candidates available for the us voters do not stand out as world leaders, neither are kennedys, eisenhowers, or even nixons.
is this choice the best that the us has to offer itself ?

First - yes - I am in UK and have no vote and possibly no right to overly criticise. Be that as it may I must comment that the candidates available for the US voters do not stand out as world leaders, neither are Kennedys, Eisenhowers, or even Nixons. Is this choice the best that the US has to offer itself ? Where there no candidates of stature available or did the prospect of having your every movement and history dissected (and also your family and friends under the microscope as well) put of some who could be seen as world leaders - neither of the two on offer seem to be such over here and as history shows American Presidents terms of office are usually almost entirely taken up with world (non-domestic) affairs then was there not a better choice. McCain choosing Palin frightens the hell out of me. Obama seems to be full of rhetoric. Well I suppose its one or the other but is US Politics so short of men/women of stature that these two are the only option?
I wonder if some more suitable candidates are happy to keep skeletons in cupboards rather than stand for the highest office and the scrutiny that goes with it.

A question for those outside of the USA
by seven006 inwhat do you call a flashlight in your country?
i know in parts of europe (england) it is called a torch but i was wondering if it was called that in other countries.
the reason i ask is i have been creating/writing/illustrating a childrens book for the past three years and a flashlight/torch has become a very important part of the story.

News from Bethel Heavy
by cinnamon1642 inpioneer hour change is legit.
letters are being mailed out soon to all congregations for announcement in early october right before the tract campaign starts.. .
elimination of circuit overseers.

I can see the scramble now from elders to be the new "mini" circuit overseer - I dread to think of what unqualified and unthinking rabble they set loose on congregations if this is so - the very ones who I detested because of their attitude will doubtless get these positions. A CO can damage a congregation - a show off "mini CO" and his trophy "mini" CO wife will likely cause havoc as they use the positions to settle scores in the circuit - and they will still be around after the three years when a CO would head off to the Hills - Can't think of any worse solution to the WTs problems - give a bunch of petty tyrants more power and influence - Thank God I am out of it as I could image having to walk out of the elders mtgs taken by the potential "minis" - confidentiality - out of the window as the mini wife tells all. Persecution - not from the world - but from the Organisation , thats what this would be - a thrice yearly punishment session for elders beaten over the head by "letters" from Brooklyn, by probably, young go-getting elders with no life skills save crawling up backsides of the powerful.

On this side of the pond it has to be the late Russell Harty, whilst just across from here in Ireland it has to be Gaye Byrne. Bill Grundy was good as well (sadly he's also "the late") - Parkinson/Wogan et al all only good at promoiting the guests new file/book/divorce/car etc etc - for the very old in the UK(sorry - another "late") Harold Williamson was a superb presenter of interviews with children - he was superb and did not patronise or condescend
