Hi DD, thanks for the review!
I guess I was ahead of things when I was DF'd and printing my own literature.
Here's an ironic twist: I haven't been to a meeting in over a year, and yet I haven't missed a single one!
the c.o has visited.
what gems did he have for the sheeple?
he gave a talk that was entitled "rejoice in the truth!
Hi DD, thanks for the review!
I guess I was ahead of things when I was DF'd and printing my own literature.
Here's an ironic twist: I haven't been to a meeting in over a year, and yet I haven't missed a single one!
i was telling my sister (who is also no longer a jw) how they have a jw broadcast channel now and stream their propaganda all the time.
so i decided to check it out again, and right now anthony morris is on there bashing higher education.
my mother has recently told me that the jws have lightened up about that issue and it is okay to pursue higher ed now.
WT: My mother has recently told me that the JWs have lightened up about that issue and it is okay to pursue higher ed now.
Well she's just wrong. They have most certainly NOT "lightened up." Anthony Morris makes that abundantly clear in his petty little rant.
Listener: It's not all higher education that they are bashing, mainly University education that requires four or more years. For instance, you can study to be a nurse but not a Doctor.
Although your second statement is true, your first one is not. If you listen closely to ToMo's rant you'll here that he explicitly defines "higher education" as four years or more of university level education as in the US.
) which person/source first made you reconsider your position on creationism?.
) how long a period of time did it take to fully convince you?.
) what books and videos did you read and watch?.
It's hard to say, I must've been 7 or 8.
But the basic idea of evolution is not inherently contradictory to a belief in a creator.
The origin of species and the origin of life are different questions.
This used to cause me a great deal of frustration with countless JWs that didn't understand this relatively elementary fact. So many JWs would say, "We don't believe in evolution, you know!"
I'd respond, "Really? You don't think anything ever change? Ever?"
The usual response would be some version of the classic deer-in-the-headlights look.
I was equally frustrated with the WTBTS's books and talks that attempted to reduce the issue to "Creation vs. Evolution" because that also incorrectly framed the issue.
Many times I incorrectly credited the GB with merely stating it the way most people understood it, believing they were smart enough to realize that was incorrect. I now know better. The likes of Stephen Lett, Anthony Morris, Gerrit Lösch and Samuel Herd clearly lack the education and intellect to appreciate the subtle nuances of the issue. Frankly, they're just not that smart.
That being said, it has become abundantly clear to me that, if there is any kind of creative force or intelligence in the universe, it has absolutely NO resemblance to the petty, narcissistic, capricious and genocidal god of the Old Testament.
That god is a psychopath. And all of his followers are delusional, especially the ones that claim(ed) to "speak for him."
The name Jesus comes to mind.
my ex husband and father of my daughter was never baptized but is still a believer in the wt.. a couple years ago we were talking about evolution ( which he does not believe in ) i brought up the subject of the neanderthals and how we all have their dna except africans ( the ones that never left africa ).
he said neanderthals are apes and not humans and jw's do not teach that they are humans.
i said i believe they do.. in the life- how did it get here book, under the sub heading " the human family "is says " neanderthal man....... was undoubtedly human.. his response was " they are just talking about what other people believe " ahhhhh .
Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals would have to have been pretty closely related to interbreed. This also shows that the term "species," while useful, also has some inherent difficulties.
The problem is that evolutionary forces weren't reading human taxonomic charts and graphs while they were happening.
I attended a four day National Science Teacher's Association (NSTA) conference this summer. Ken Miller, the author of the popular high school textbook Biology published by Pearson was a guest lecturer.
Among other things, he made the intriguing comment that Aristotle's taxonomy was getting a major reworking in light of many recent discoveries in genetics and paleontology. Although he didn't say when this new taxonomy would be introduced into future textbooks and high school curriculum in the United States, he hinted it would be within the next year or so (I know, that sounds a lot like "Soon!").
For those that are interested, here is a link to his website:
There are tons of excellent resources on their website!

growing up, i never ever even saw these guys faces, or even knew their names.
all of a sudden they're on my computer screen, tv, and on every other magazine coming out of the watchtower machine.
why all the glamour now?
They're narcissists, everyone one of 'em.
Carly Simon wrote a song that really describes them:
a little experience that happened very recently:.
another brother, an elder, and i were talking, i was explaining to him and giving him several examples of how a couple of the elders in our congregation were blatantly trying to run their own show, parading themselves around as "representatives" of the body, when the other brothers didnt know what the hell they were talking about.
they are using their "elder powers" to bully and push people around, causing a bit of angst and hurt feelings.
Best response ever: "Why do YOU ask? Are YOU having doubts?"
i've been thinking and here's what i've come up with.
correct me if i'm wrong, but in the bible does it not state that the word would have to be preached throughout the entire inhabited earth for a witness to all people and then the end would come?.
with the world being as vast as it is today, it would be practically impossible for the witnesses to speak to everyone in the world.
in my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.
our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.
the second hall i was in was moderate.
They were, and still are, Kool-Aid drinkers, every one of them except one: Me.
I saw the cracks in the facade and eventually left. It was difficult because I did believe it at one time. But when you begin to pull on the loose threads of the WT theology, the whole thing unravels rather quickly.

scary21: Am I missing something here ?
Yes, JWs' have no critical thinking skills.
You canNOT reason with an unreasonable person. You might as well try to teach a pig to ice skate: it annoys the pig and makes you look stupid.
wow, i am kind of surprised the amount of attention this appalling video is getting from the media.
not surprised because it is appalling but that something that i grew up with was encapsulated in a cartoon and is exposing the witnesses publicly for mind control.. www.nydailynews.com/news/national/jehovah-witnesses-video-slammed-threats-kids-article-1.2116873.
cappytan: I decided to read Dean Koontz on my tablet instead
Dean's the bomb! Which book?
I'm a huge fan of his. Problem is: he can somehow write books faster than I can find enough time to read 'em!
