is it really good for the soul?
does it make us clean and pure again?.
or is it the easy way out, a way of shrugging off our misdoings and leaving us free to behave badly again, for example by visiting a confessional box each week?.
OK, I'm convinced.....
"I'm going to confession....... I may be some time !"
does anyone out there have a good set of raw data re wt statistics.
just started reading ray's book and believe some of the maths behind his calculations regarding people leaving the org are flawed, not that the reasoning is flawed, just an error in the method.. i would like to re run the calculation.
also i'm a bit of a stat junky and would like to look at the real trends.

I would like to re run the calculation. Also I'm a bit of a stat junky and would like to look at the real trends. A spreadsheet format would be good and I promise to share the findings with you.
Otherwise I am going to have to make some excuse to visit my parents, spycam their vast collection of old yearbooks and type it all in by hand. This would lead to akward questions if caught as to my motives, an obvious son of satan can have no good cause for gathering such information. <g>.

i can remember numerous talks and study articles about how the preaching work would get more and more intense as we near the end.. one so called prophetic illustration that stands out in my mind was when joshua and his men marched around the city each day and then just before the city fell they marched seven times signifying a quickening of the preaching work.. it seems starkingly obvious that the preaching,is in decline amonst jw's,the jw's are seen less and less often in my neighbourhood,it is very rare to see them out street witnesing around the town centres and railway stations, the average jw spends far less time preaching than a decade ago.. it seems like their chief brag is definately on the wain,in favour of other recruitment methods.
My sister was a pioneer for about 10 years. When she finally gave up for quite valid acceptable reasons she recieved quite a lot of criticism from the rank and file low hours brothers & sisters, whereas she recieved support from those who had pioneered themselves.
I think the R&F were quite happy to see my sister out on her bike in the preaching work and by inviting her in for the odd cup of tea was a sort of hours by proxy.
How many hours can you count for making tea for a pioneer?
just wondering....take a 40 year old male ('cos he's an ex-elder!
) who's been born a dub.
he becomes disenchanted with dubdom and eventually decides to leave.
'to stay busy trying new things and meeting new people. '
I agree, no point looking to the past, and meeting people in the world, many of them had different upbringing, Catholics for example and on the bright side I do feel that my upbringing had 'some' benefits, not that I would have chosen that path myself.

Oh what an interesting thread, can relate to a lot of that.
From my own experience, I was brought up as a JW from about the age of 4, left aged around 28, so I guess most of my formative years were influenced and yes of course it affects you. It was made worse by having a very biggoted and dogmatic father. I think the JW rules suited him because it gave him justification for control.
I think I have mostly got my act together and had about 8 years of learning loads of things, some painful some fascinating. I walked out of an assembly and never went back, I moved to a new town in Excile and found it liberating, I could think, do, read what I liked. I believe its a lot like people living under a totalitarian regime suddenly liberated, East Germany for example.
It went to my head a bit, I read all sorts of fascinating things from cosmology to witchcraft, became a bit of a hippy smoked loads of pot <g> made loads of new and interesting friends.
But yes, I think there is a legacy, which as I do feel more comfortable with myself are largely history. The more I become convinced that the doctrine is flawed the more I see the whole thing more in perspective. Dont think I consider myself a Christian even, I do have views on religion, however they are more eclectic and definatly my own personal views, subject to change at any time.
I do not consider myself apostate though, my father accuses me of that and I find the term as offensive as the word 'nigger' would be to an Afro-Carrabian. The term is code speak, similar to 'enemy of the people' in Soviet Russia, or 'Untermenschen' in Nazi Germany, the labeling of people. As the tern actually means 'against God' and as I have a greater personal understanding of the nature of God than I ever did then for me the term does not apply.

in the uk we have a law that seeks to protect against incitement of racial or religious hatred.
i think this may be a european law and so the scope may be a lot wider.
it is clear that the wtbs policy on da/df people is incitement and it may be argued that it is on the basis of religious views.

I was wondering if anyone has considered this or if any research has been done on this issue?
it was inevitable.
after dodging the bullet for a few weeks, the elders finally made their way to our house today.
the reason i think this to be so, is because he asked me what he should write down for my report.
I feel quite left out...... when am I going to get my 'shepherding call' !!! why should everyone else have all the fun....?
I left around 10 years ago and went to another town in excile.. About a year later I was called on in the door to door work and took the magazines out of curiosity, I must have become a route call as they called quite reguarly. Then when I moved house I informed the gas, electric and phone company yet forgot to inform the witnesses (Ooops). I have not seen them since.
my wife, who is intent on re-activating herself as a dub since i da'd myself, went to the convention this past weekend.
she showed me this new publication entitled "learn from the great teacher", and placed great emphasis on these two pages i scanned and am posting.
it makes a poor show of telling children what to do when confronted by a child abuser.
Well this is my first posting to this forum having watched from the sidelines for a while.
It appears that the GB are a load of old men who have been holed up in Brooklyn for so many years they are way out of touch with the real world. The policies and advice they provide is misguided and inapropriate.
I wonder what Jesus Christ would advise had he been present when these policies had been discussed? Provide one or two witnesses and dont involve the secular authorities???? I think not.... There again he would probably have been disfellowshipped for criticising the organisation and branded an apostate.
Have Fun....
