Thanks, Caleb. Leave it to JWs to think they can do Judaism better than Jews can!

Wish You Knew? Ask a Jew!
by CalebInFloroda inbecause on another thread questions about just what the hell jews believe kept taking us off topic, i decided to start this new one.
that's why, as you will notice, it has that new thread smell.
i will do my best to give thorough and concise answers, but be warned: i do not take myself very seriously.

Hi, Caleb!
I know I've read about this topic before, but I don't remember the details.
People have complained that the JWs get the date of their Memorial, Nisan 14 wrong. The Jewish calculation would be different.
Can you comment on this?
Good to hear from you again.

@ RC: "For evolution to be true..."
by Scully inaccording to a jw contact, one of the speakers at the regional conventiontm stated that "for evolution to be true, two of the same kind would have had to evolve at the same time; one would have to be male and the other would have to be female, and then they would have to find each other".
apparently the crowd had a good laugh over how evolutionists overlook such a simple "fact".. i mentioned that bacteria and viruses use asexual reproduction, and that many sea creatures / fish, etc.
are hermaphrodite and do not require a sexual partner to produce offspring.. oddly enough, the conversation stopped there.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Island Man for pointing out that evolution occurs at the POPULATION level, not the level of the individual organism!
I know that there are some intelligent people who would readily agree with the obvious truth of evolution at the population level as long as you didn't use THE WORD EVOLUTION. As soon as you use that word, though, their brains turn off.
Now I'm wondering if it would be fun (and possibly fruitful) to discuss the "Theory of Progressive Allele Frequency Change" with my otherwise intelligent dad and see if he'd agree it made sense. And THEN casually mention that that's actually what the theory of evolution actually means.

Just a short observation on self inflicted misery.
by Human Being ini used to post on this site a few years back but after moving on personally and being shunned by my only remaining family member for the last 4-5 years i the j.w's became just background noise to me.
yet yesterday something happened that brought back to me the degree of control this cult has over it's members.
a new wall mart recently opened in my little mountain town here in northern georgia, u.s. as i headed across the parking lot on my way into the store the heat was intense, wit a humidity factor of around 90%.

Hi, Steve! Remember this is the US, where you can successfully sue Mc Donalds for serving their coffee too hot! LOL
I wasn't suggesting anyone actually sue Walmart, but maybe a reminder to management of a possible liability might move them to supply umbrellas to the elderly JWs baking in the sun.

Is The Watchtower Corporation Getting Ready For A Huge International Fire Sale?
by Brokeback Watchtower inwith all this talk about selling existing kingdom halls and robbing the congregations of savings accounts.
massive relocation of headquarters selling over a billion in prime real estate, gobbling up property and getting all the free labor they can from the rank and file slaves to fix up these properties and donate more and more money to cover the cost.. it looks like they are in the process of some type cannibalization of its self in an effort of self preservation.. are we on the cusps of a giant fire sale as the lawsuits pile up and build pressure i suspect things will get far worse leaving many congregations kingdom halless and traveling greater distances just to make a meeting every once and a while when they have enough gas money.. with a royal charities commission inquiry into inappropriate conduct of the wt corporation and loss of charity status and the eventual loss of such operational status in one country after another things are looking very bleak for this end of the world jehovah scam cult with it 1914,1975,2000, expiration dates long past..

I think a good thought experiment might be to consider what might happen if they completely stopped making converts. How long will they survive?
Unfortunately, the answer might be: quite awhile. There are an awful lot of people who came in pre-1975 still out there. Many of these converts had good jobs already and are now enjoying a good retirement, my parents among them. I expect to see a greater push towards including the Watchtower in estate planning.
This could keep them going for quite a few more years.

Conversation with ultra dub relative. Pure quality this one
by joe134cd inif any one has been taking note of my posts, it could be said that i often mention conversations i have had with dubbies.
in some ways not been dfed has allowed me to gain some real in sight into how they think and their justification for things.
the following is a conversation i just had with an ultra super dub relative, and to be honest i don't know weather i should be laughing or crying over it.. relative: the rc this year is going to be held in the assembly hall.

This is the kind of stuff you get when people need to believe, first and foremost.
Nearly anything will serve to justify.

Good point on the liability issue. WT has done a good job on insulating themselves from liability on behalf of the publishers, but if one of them does have a medical emergency and an ambulance gets called to the front entrance of Walmart, would Walmart have any liability? I think it would, at the very least, be a PR issue. -

Yep, Searcher, and the True Believers will just accept any explanation because they simply HAVE to believe.
"Consolidation" might be the new "simplification."
