  North American History - Red George MacDonnell

  greetings to the colonies .

  i have come across this individual in the course of some local history research - back in the late 18th c his aunt and her husband owned the estate where i now live and his parents settled nearby.

  he gets credit for a victory at ogdensberg in the war of 1812.. is 'red george macdonnell known to the average american/canadian or is he an obscure figure?

  With all seriousness, Americans are likely to know nothing of the man. We don't tend to talk about defeats.

  Now, I can tell you all about the battle of Baltimore, though, where Francis Scott Key was held prisoner aboard a British ship in the harbor through the night, just straining for a peek at the flag that flew over Fort McHenry in the dawn's early light. (Spoiler alert: it was the stars and stripes!)

  That is totally cool history, though! How neat is it that you've traced him from your neighborhood across the Atlantic! Have you found where he was buried? It seems he was back in Britain before he was age 40.

  They are amazing raptors and exist on every continent except Antarctica.

  Tom and Audrey, the local osprey pair, have come back to the same nesting platform as last year.

  After an unfortunate incident with crows, all eggs were lost last year. This year, however, 2 eggs were viable and one has hatched!

  This is my old circuit, the one I grew up in.

  And, boy, the skeletons are coming out of the closet.

  Disturbingly, it looks like they haven't learned their lessons yet.

  Somewhat ironically, one of the kingdom halls in this circuit was sold off and now serves as a local court!

  My Belief in Prayer

  my belief in prayer was once bolstered by my strong attachment to what i had read in aid to bible understanding.

  my having a part in its initial prep in the factory and, later, a detailed proofing of thousands of references to it made this bible dictionary an influence in my former life.

  please note this extract on jehovah's seeming delay in the answering of prayer.

  For awhile, I solved the unanswered prayer conundrum with the thought that sometimes the answer to your prayer is, "No."

  Then I realized that with the answer being, "Yes," sometimes and , "No," others, the result wasn't materially different than God not being involved at all.

  I still kind of miss the situations I had imagined in my head:

  "She wants a husband? Oh, I don't think so! She needs to get herself together, first!"

  I love the word 'subitize' because it sounds so formal for such an easy skill-- to be able to know the quantity just by looking briefly at a pattern.

  So, when you roll a die, and you see a dot in each corner and one in the middle, you know by the pattern that it's the number five. ⚄ You have just successfully subitized!

  Congratulations to all you subitizers out there who didn't know you held that title!

  what questions could pimos ask elders, that elders would be unable to answer?
