Wow....I've heard of these pagan characters before, but had no clue they were so similar to Jesus.

But hey, there's a really simple solution to clear up ALL of this confusion. Satan and his demons!! Let's face it, they probably knew what Jehovah had in mind (Saviour) so those pesky Demons created a whole bunch of ancient pagan religions and deitys that were earily similar to what the knew Jehovah was going to do in the near future. They are master manipulators, and they knew this would create confusion and doubt as the centuries flew by. It's all their fault, and if you don't pick the JW's out of the thousands of other religions on earth as the ONE TRUE RELIGION, then Jehovah God is going to eternally destroy you during either the Great Tribulation or Armaggeddon.

See how easy that was to clarify?

Seriously, I've heard this explanation given countless times while growing up as an answer to a variety of questions from the fossil record, origin of different religions, doubts, etc, etc.

To some degree if you believe in angels then you must believe in demons, and therefore it would be plausible that the demons would then create alternate or similar situations in order to create doubts by future generations of researchers.

One thing I personally have faith in is all of the eye-witness accounts to Jesus' miracles, actions, pentacost, etc, etc. I think it would have been hard to just up and fabricate this stuff at the time and not have a bunch of people calling BS besides the Jews. Just my opinion.

Could Facebook Defeat The Watchtower?

if you've been on boards such as this one for a long time, you may have noticed a profound change in what's posted.

on the old h2o board, you commonly had long, detailed debates concerning every aspect of watchtower doctrine and history.

while i thought i was very well informed in this area, i was often amazed at the stuff that came up that i'd never heard about.. and the discussions about 607 chronology were mind-numbingly extensive......... ...........but all that's over now!.

I have to agree to some extent. As for the post before mine about middle-aged Elders running the show for DECADES, I don't know about that. I know around here about 90% of the Elders are like 60+ years old. Any man younger than that is WORKING to make ends meet, as we all know wives aren't supposed to work outside the home and are only good for pioneering. And if you think Elders are hard to come by, try finding the Pre-Elder types - Ministerial Servants!!

It's like, "Hey Brother 20-year old too Busy: How would you like more priviledges like mowing the KH grass, organizing the service groups, holding microphones, doing crap jobs and chores with no pay at all?"

Brother 20-year old Too Busy replies, "No Thanks Brother Elder ShineyShoes, I'm too busy at work, with my young children, and with other activities. Ask Brother Asskisser, as he is single and living in his parent's basement yet and pioneering."

Brother Elder ShineyShoes answers, "Oh ok. Well, let us know if you change your mind. You know, becoming a ministerial servant is the first step to eventually becoming an Elder!! Wouldn't that be a fine example to your children!!" Secretly, Brother Elder ShineyShoes knows he can't ask Brother Asskisser to be a MS because Bro Asskisser is a child molestor and peeping Tom.

So you see, there are no young ones to really take the place of the older Elders who are getting really up in age and dying off. The majority are reluctant and don't even want to be Ministerial Servants much less Elders. Wow.....imagine doing even MORE chores around the Kingdom Hall all the while getting no pay and missing out on time with your family - sounds like a dream come true, right? WRONG, and the young men know this, especially if they are "born-ins". I decided at a VERY young age I wanted nothing to do with "priviledges" as they weren't "priviledges" at all, they were CHORES and busy work, and only benefited The WatchTower and Kingdom Hall. It sure didn't beneift the Elder's families. That was one of the first cons I actually saw through....making men run no circles on the hamster wheel and in realitty getting nowhere. Pfffftttt - no thanks!!!!

Also, how much anti-social can the JW's become? They have absolutely NOTHING to offer the youth, no Sunday School, no youth programs, no daycare, no Bible Camps, no teen retreats, NOTHING. The world is becoming more and more SOCIAL, more open, more FREE......and the JW's are becoming more and more anti-social, isolationist, paranoid, uneducated, and imprisoned.

Is there any wonder the youth are leaving in DROVES? There is no wonder to me.

Just got a DC invitation/pamphlet

one of them was stuck in my front door and i discovered another one in in-laws front door when i went to visit.

Honestly, as I was sitting upon the toilet I did read the one I had gotten. It was your standard jibberish about being invited to a FREE assembly about the biblical topics, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. It asked something like "How we can draw closer to God? Come to our free assembly in Reading, PA and find out" etc, etc.

Do you know what I caught? On neither side of the invitation was Jesus' name. NO WHERE. Jehovah was there a few times, but Jesus was completely OMITTED. For a religion professing to be CHRISTIANS you'd certainly think they could throw out his name once in a while, right?????? I find that really sad and pathetic. What's worse, is that from reading on here about the DC this year I know that this drawing closer to Jehovah is done by following The Faithful & Discreet Slave, no matter what drivel comes out of their mouthes or else DIE!!!

Nope, none of this "Come to me, follow me," etc as Jesus commanded...nope, not for JW's. It's all about following a man-made Governing Body which no one on earth can ever really prove was selected by God, except the GB themselves. It's, "We're in charge because we say we are in charge, so shut up and do as we say or ELSE!!"

Talk about your classic bait and switch. I was also thinking about what would happen if a "normal" worldy person did show up to DC. Chances are they'd be in Khakis and a polo, if not jeans, and the first thing they'd feel is inadequate for not dressing up, then think they are at an AMWAY convention. They'd be so out of there. Then again, they'd first have to be ALLOWED in, right? I mean, doesn't everyone have to wear name tags now? What for silly, simple-minded Bullsh*t!!! I gotta jump into this thread and say that being an U.P. is great!!!

See, I am 30 years old. I was raised in this religion. I studied with one of the "annointed" when I was 14 for baptism, using The Greatest Man book. It was all about pressure, and honestly even at that age I didn't WANT to be baptized; something just didn't feel right. First off, I knew I wasn't into it full force - I would have been lying to Jehovah, and I didn't want to do that. I also reasoned that I was too young and had alot of sinning to do yet in my teen years!! I figured, Jesus was 30, why not everyone else? And so it was.

Being an U.P. is great though. You are in a funky "grey" area.....like being in The Dead Zone. You can do what you want, say what you want, talk to whom you want (both baptized and DF'D, DA'D, etc) and there isn't a damned thing the Elder's can say or do about it. Oh sure, they can warn the flock about you, but that only makes them more curious, and since you aren't officially a witness or DF'd, they can talk to you all day long under the guise of trying to "recruit" you. Haha!!!!

I'm not baptized, but was considered a "brother" in good standing for years, treated as such, never was looked down upon, etc. Did I get "priviledges"? Well no, but who wants to clean toilets, mow the KH yard, or carry microphones like some jackass? Not me. I did help clean the KH a few times and helped my father with the HVAC system, but that's it.

In short, it's the best of both worlds. They don't know what the hell to do with me, and I bet the Elders can't stand it. I can go toe-to-toe with them and talk down to them, and what are they gonna do about it? Absolutely NOTHING. I hold all of the cards, NOT THEM. I can question them, doctrines, etc and they can't even charge with me apostasy!!

I'm so grateful I listened to my instincts all of those years ago and never subjected myself to a JW dunking and handing over of my balls and free thought to the JW Organization.

Misery loves Company: The Meetings

after increased pressure from friends and family (many less than spiritual) to get back to the meetings recently, i started wondering how many of them are just plain pissed every time they're sitting in the kh thinking about you siting at home watching csi.. was just wondering about that angle.. 5th.

Interesting topic.

I don't think people are jealous that you are not there, I think it's more of a ,"I'm here filling my seat being bored, and therefor so should EVERYONE ELSE." In other words, they have to put up with the same mindless crap week after week, and they expect everyone else should too.

But seriously, I think the whole "please come back to the meetings" thing that I've been hearing about on here over the last 2 years or so is being driven by the fact that so many are leaving the the Kingdom Halls are seriously empty, even on Sundays. This is especially so in 16-30 age group. We are intelligent, research EVERYTHING online, and of course that's dangerous to control groups looking to hide their past and mistakes.

The last meeting I went to (about 4 years ago) at my local KH on a Sunday was VERY empty. It was like April too, so no snow and not summer yet (Pennsylvana) so where was everyone?? It was really sad...the place was practically empty. Only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the seats were filled. Boring as hell too. I can't imagine any "Worldly" person being impressed enough to come back. I've visited some Methodist and Lutheran churches in my area to see if they suffer from the same depletion syndrome. Guess what? NOT!! They were almost completely full, had activies, youth groups, etc, etc. It was completely the opposite.

I swear, I think of that scripture that the JW's constantly used to use about, "Get ouf of her my people," and it almost seems now like it was written about the JW's - people leaving them!

If my parents were still alive, they wouldn't even recognize this so-called "religion." So much has changed it's not even funny. Sad thing is, it's changed for the WORSE.

I don't care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their homes; just don't force me to "accept" it, call it "normal", "natural," or anything else. Conversely, I won't mention my "straightness" and force you to accept it or call you a bigot and intollerant for not agreeing with it.

What I (or anyone else) may feel is morally right or wrong does not correspond to what others feel may be right or wrong.

Also, please don't force my children to learn about it in school.

Don't have parades about it either. Last time I looked, I didn't see any "straight" parades flaunting male/female relationships.

Please don't blow your feathered boa in my face, it makes me sneeze.

2010 DC - not going (yay)

so without giving too much info away so that someone might id me, i have to travel a long distance to get to any dc.

so i'm making plans to take a trip to the states to spend time with family, and my mother asks me about attending the dc.

i said, look, i have limited time when i take a trip there and you want me to spend three days sitting on my ass listening to the same ole bullshit?

I haven't been to a DC since 1996 at the Vet in Philly. I don't miss baking in the hot sun at all!!

My last CA was probably 2000, MAYBE 2001. So it's been a decade, and I couldn't care less. I can still recite the standard BS, any nothing really changes, so why waste time?

Your mom is brainwashed, plain and simple. No doubt about it.

So she doesn't believe have the shit, but still expects YOU to go and lap it all up???? Haha!! Hypocrite!!
