Ran into some JW's.......but this time I did the teaching ;) x
by snare&racket inso i went out today with my broken leg and got accosted by an old lady, with some magazines.. it was my first ever encounter with a jw in ten years, and i had said 'i know you are jw's, i'm not interested thank you.
" twice.....then she started talking about my broken leg and how wonderful we are made and how amazing the healing process is.... and that's when it all started...."i used to be a bethelite pioneer, now i'm an atheist doctor...".
she was with me a good 30 mins, her elder husband left very annoyed but she stayed, and she was dying to hear everything i spurted out, despite aggressively defending every point, from military engines to paedophilia.

You really are an inspiration S&R. While I'm not an Atheist, I really feel for you and your journey. I had a similar experience about 7 years ago where a JW mother that I knew (who was shunning her grown DF'd daughter for marrying outside the JW's) came to my door unknowingly to preach. It was all pleasant, but she got a good earful. By the end of it, her group was way down the street and was looking absolutely defeated. She had ZERO answers to my questions as to why she was even standing there, since we all were supposed to have been in the New Order years ago, why I had a job, wife, mortgage, & son of my own. Why does she look old? Why is she an uneducated cafeteria lady at the local school, and not retired by now or petty pandas next to a lake? No answers....just the sad face. Her married daughter wants nothing to do with her, and I can't blame her. Lives in the next county over.....very happy, and glad to be away from the JW's and family that kicked her to the curb when she was about 19 for falling in love. She's been married to that fellow for 18 years now. How's that shunning working out for the JW parents I wonder? -

Looking Back In Retrospect To 1975...
by titch ingreetings, folks: so, it's been 40 years since 1975. and, if you were actively involved with the witnesses back then, the mindset of many was, that by early autumn of 1975, it would mark the anniversary of 6000 years of human existence.
and, the hope was then, that it would mark the start of the 1000-year of christ, from the heavenly realm.
but, looking back now, 40 years ago, in june of 1975, only 3 more months remained until early autumn.

I wasn't born until 1979. I very rarely ever heard anything about 1975, & my parents didn't start studying until late 70's after they were married. I'm 36. For me, the 1914 Generation doctrinal fiasco was the "kicker" for me. Actually, what I heard about and wandered about as a child was the whole Pyramids of Giza proving 1914 BS. Even as a child, I wandered how in the world measurements in the pagan Egyptian pyramids proved anything about the Bible? Why would they need to? They are pagan, and the Bible is truth and Christian, correct? Seemed whack, even in 1984. In 1998, I started searching Yahoo! search engine about this stuff......1914 and pyramids, and oh man......what a traumatic experience to learn and have it confirmed that it was all total BS. Dominoes fell, and continue to fall to this day. -

I hope to God she didn't accept a "Gag" order. To me, that would be a "win" for JW WTBTS. I know she got a lot of air time in before this settlement, but a "Gag" order would be a real killer.

Strange Moment During The 2015 Regional Convention
by JW_Rogue inhi, i'm new here but hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere yet.
during the "imitate jesus" rc there was a strange moment where they played a video of a brother trying to explain the 1914 teaching.
the brother quickly goes through all the scriptural "proofs" and the householder is dumbfounded.

I just LOVE how 607 is spoken of as if it were purely FACT. Any householder with a grain of education in history would immediately call out that false date for the fall of Jerusalem and point them towards the incredible mountain of evidence for 587, and the JW would be left looking like a total moron. How dumb do the GB think normal, educated people are? What am I saying? Did that "householder" look like an educated person to you? No.....he looked like a slow, simple-minded halfwit.....just like the JW's like to recruit. Slow, dumb, and uneducated is what they are after.
I was almost floored by the laughter from the audience in this clip. To me, is really signals that the majority of the R&F think it's total BS as well....made-up, convoluted BS.
Like someone said above, this religion has jumped the shark in recent years. The serious religion of my youth is DEAD. This is what is in it's place....dumbed down idiotic nonsense. At least the Oracle Fred Franz's stuff wanted you to think and examine things.

He invites these women out for coffee.......in the daylight? At Starbucks, Panera, or possibly.......(Gasp!) - Tim Horton's??? The NERVE of this barbarian!! Doesn't he know that women are to be seen and not heard? That their place is barefoot, in the kitchen, pregnant, and fetching the man his cold beer and chicken pot pie?

The Mormons have Salt Lake City. People's Temple had Jonestown. The Branch Davidians had Waco.
The WT cult will have Warwick, NY.

My Story of Waking Up - in retrospect
by cappytan inso, many of y'all know bits and pieces of my story of waking up, but i thought it might be nice to have it all in one place.. i was baptized at 11, auxiliary pioneered every summer, regular pioneer at 17, ministerial servant by 19, then went to bethel for a year.. i always had minor doubts from time to time, but nothing serious.
always dismissed doubts and decided to "just have faith.".
after leaving bethel, i was never really firing on all cylinders "spiritually speaking.

Hello El Cappytan! You've come a long way, you! I'm actually kind of surprised it was the 607 and TOMO III "Tight Pants" thing. I would have thought Bethel service would be enough to awaken anyone to the incredible hypocrisy of the WT cult. Oh well, whatever gets you out!
I'm glad to hear your wife is on the outs as well.

Same reason Jim Jones up and moved People's Temple from San Francisco to the jungle of Guyana. Control, control, and MORE control. And control and manipulate in secrecy, out from under watchful eyes.
Wait and see, they'll start buying up property around Warwick so that in a few decades, they'll "own" that small town. They're already at it, actually.
Cult Compound, ala WT style. Scary.

Example of shunning

Legit Questions:
1.) Is this guy a locally known Apostate from another denomination? As in, has he in the past picketed, demonstrated, or gone all crazy like outside these conventions? If so, I wouldn't have spoken to him either!
2.) I wonder if someone wearing a new suit, being filmed by a pro camera on a tripod, with a "Apos 8" square thing on a better microphone would have gotten a better reception? You know, fool them into thinking you are legit media, then put them on the spot about their shunning?
If this had been me as a JW approached by a guy like this, I would spoken to him. What's to be afraid of? My gut reaction, is that this guy has previously been a pain-in-the-ass trouble maker type, no matter what he "claims" now, and this is why the people couldn't get away from him fast enough. Think "Mr Coffee" of at Columbia Heights. Total obsessed nut-job.
