Promise Keepers
by schnell in"real men keep their promises.".
i remember that bumper sticker from the 90s when i was a teenager in texas.
i didn't know it was attached to a kind of cult.. this article is 14 years old, and may well have appeared on this site before, but i'd like to reference it anyway because i see parallels, of course.. whatever happened to the promise keepers?.

Oh man!! I worked with an Engineer in 1998-2000 who was a Promise Keeper. He was a real goody-two-shoes Lutheran as well. He was also a total sucker. Doesn't surprise me to find out PK's were some kind of Jesus-Freak Cult. The above info BEGS the question; what happened to all of the $$$$, you know, the $117 million??? Gone, baby gone! -

I am a Living Time Machine
by TerryWalstrom inwhich world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.
everywhere you found telephone booths!
a call was a nickle.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

Fun Fact:
VHS only won the tape wars because the PORNOGRAPHY industry choose to go with VHS for their shipping industry. That was the end for BetaMax. It was destined to only be used for TV stations after that happened. Sad, it was the better of the two.

Broke, Dumb & Stupid....GB wants only these people.
by krismalone inmaybe this will become a new catch phrase describing the type of people that the governing body loves to have in their organization and that they create if they're born ins.. broke......dumb......& stupid.
let me explain:.
broke: the gb keeps their members in poverty by condemning higher education and demanding that all their time should be spent peddling the wt propaganda and going to all the meetings.

This title describes 100% of the kids I grew up with, who didn't leave the cult. Anyone with a lick of sense either
a.) didn't get baptized (that's me!)
b.) Got themselves DF'd and never wanted to grovel to come back
c.) Faded and never came back, no matter how much pressure their "in" parents put on them
d.) Was smart enough to never buy into it, and therefore got their own scholarships and shipped off to a college/Univ far away, never to be seen again
e.) Married another fringe JW or most likely a non-JW, and then proceeded to fade, never to be heard from again.
I'm 37. The 75% leaving holds true in South Central Pennsylvania region. In fact, I'd say it's an even greater ratio, probably 90%. Only man-children of Elduhs remain, and they are so neutered you'd swear they were Eunuchs. And these man-children IF they are lucky enough to snag a female, have one that is a submissive post and lay-about. No brains. No education. Barely any will to live. It's like watching the walking dead, and the Congregations themselves mostly resemble geriatric wards. This cult is in BIG trouble.

Damn, it's Jeff!!! I'll always remember your posts from the past, and about your experience with the "loving Organization" after being robbed in Cameroon. (for those that aren't familiar, WT HQ didn't lift a finger to help him!)
I'm 37. I'm so glad I didn't get baptized or get suckered into following the same path you did, although I had many on my azz to do just that!
Best of luck to you on your new adventures and in life.

One Big Family... Except For When You Need Them
by pale.emperor inwhen i was in, we all used to claim us jw's were "one big family" all around the world, and how we're the happiest people on the earth.
except that isnt true is it?
i knew that when i was in, but i've just had some news which shows me how unloving, uncaring and un-family like they really are.. my ex-best friend (he has to shun me doesn't he?

Pale:
If you do or give them anything, it will only reinforce that "Jehovah Provides", and in their minds proves that they are in God's Organization. Even if it came from YOU, an EX-JW, they'd still rationalize it in their minds that Jah put it into your heart to help them. It's hard man, but you gotta let them work it out. Also, your friends father is a total JACKASS for not giving up his "study" to let them stay there if even for a while. Talk about "Christian love" of a parent even! Wow! I bet the wife's jaw was on the floor after hearing that! That old bastard would never set foot in my house after such "generous" treatment. Wow.

Griffin Assembly Hall (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) now a Megachurch
by Sanchy inmy mom, while pregnant with me, was one of thousands of jw volunteers to work on the construction of this once beautiful assembly hall in south florida circa 1984. it had a beautiful pond, waterfall, and even a resident alligator.
many remember it as well for it's huge plaster murals on the walls showing scenes of paradises.. pics as it was before (sorry for the low quality, struggled to find good pics of the auditorium as it was, if you have any good ones, do share them):.

Those murals on the wall were awesome, it's a real shame the new MegaChurch has decided to cover them up! Seems strange! Anyway, what a freakin' SHAFT the WT Org gave it's members by selling this lovely facility, and then lying to them that they'd be getting something else! What a bunch of crooks! Total, money-grubbing, CROOKS!

Wow! Just read down thru that entire previous thread........however many pages. WTF!!!!!! Crazy! I think declining health and feeling underappreciated really takes it's toll on older Apostates. They are finally cracking. I mean, I LOL'd when I saw one poster on here claim that they had never heard of Randy Walters. Man, that is WEAK by Apostate standards! But, time and unforeseen events befall us all, and blah, blah, blah. I'd heard and been expecting a REAL book from Barb Anderson as well, were the hell is it at? Instead, we are treated to Lloyd Evans 800 page autobiography with his big picture on it, and promoted readings and book signings. For HIS autobiography! (gag)
I'll pass on that, thanks! I swear, I can't wait for the next Ray Franz. (a true turncoat) That person with NEW information on the current scheming con-men can't come fast enough.

Not one visit, 8 years in a nursing home, and not one visit!
by Raymudas Martini inmy dad{rip}, was a faithful jw since the year i was born, i'm 60, he died 2 years ago.
his last 12 years were spent in an assisted living/nursing home right in the small town where he spent the last 8 years of being an elder/pioneer.
when he went into the home, one brother would visit him regularly, but after 4 years, that friend moved away, and visitation from the locals ceased, for 8 years!!!!!!!

I'll never forget the day.....probably the summer of 2002. My JW grandmother was 84 yrs old, had severe arthritis, and was living with my mom and I. So some other elderly Pioneer types were making their round thru our rural neighbourhood. My grandma saw them coming up the walk, so she opened her bedroom window to greet them. I was in the room, but the Pioneers didn't see me. (I didn't give a crap about talking to them) So anyway, after exchanging some pleasantries, they Pioneers ask my frail, elderly Grandmother when can she return to field service? I was floored. She already participated in the "writing campaign" with her arthritic hands, and yet these old biddies had the galls to ask her when she'd be "out" again? They couldn't be bothered to see if she needed any physical or spiritual help, but were only concerned with her door-knocking hours. My mother and I were PISSED! What a bunch of poseurs and USERS. It's all "take" and no "give." My grandmother passed away not even a year later.
