I predict that when I happen to run into this friend again, I will be telling him how I went and found this article, and then I predict that I will be telling him how full of SHIT he is for believing such broad, vague, non-descript shit from a group of uninspired, anonymous, ghost writers.

Un-freakin-believable that he would actually spout off that an older 1981 Awake! magazine article was actually referring to today - 2008!! How much dumber do you think they can make the flock??

This relates to my 1981 Awake! thread in the Experiences section to a degree. Thinking about those golden oldie WT's and Awake! articles from the 1980's got me thinking. (oh-no!)

Something struck me as I was thinking about all of the stuff I was taught growing up in the 80's. My parents and I were always taught that somehow the King of the North would finally be revealed, and that also the preaching work would be fullfilled, and that we'd then have another message to spread - not of warning - but of impending destruction by Jehovah our God!! Everyone kind of looked forward to spreading this one-last message, sort of an in-your-face "We told you so!" type message. I have not heard anything about this end-time type of message in years, probably since the late 80's, early 90's.

Was it just local lunacy, or does anyone else remember this being taught? The only thing that even came close was that tract about 2 years ago that slammed other religions for their pedophiles, etc.....and I remember everyone talking about how the clergy and Christendom would be angered by our tract and that it might even turn them against the Organization, and hence jump-start the Great Tribulation. As usual though, no one in the "World" gave a damn, it wasn't even a hiccup. They are so full of themselves; they think the whole world is someone focused on them and their every move, tract campaign, etc. Anyway, that is the only thing that even came close to what I was taught.

Final message of destruction; anyone remember being told we'd do it at the end? King of the North - When? Who? Of course I remember it being USSR / Communists, but what was it in the 90's? How about today?

Christmas

for years as a jw i believed that christmas and everything associated with it was bad.

but lately i have been looking at different beliefs, and reading books of the bible in their entirety (not just convenient verses).

i was amazed at the way bible stories taught by the jw's change when the entire chapter is read !

Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner!

This is the very verse that got me thinking about Christmas in a different light. After all, the JW's are all about keeping things clean and the way they were 2000 years ago. You know, the whole, "well, 1st Century Christians didn't observe these things." Well, Luke sure seems to show that even the angels in heaven rejoiced, so how could us mere mortals rejoicing and celebrating be wrong? Conclusion from research and common sense: it's not wrong!

Wait until you start getting into the Star of Bethlehem. JW's teach (and I was brought up to believe) that the Star of Bethlehem was created by Satan to lead the evil Wise Men to Jesus to kill Him. Wrong! There are several threads on here that use the Bible to PROVE that it was actually Jehovah that used the Star to guide the GOOD Wise Men to Jesus to bestow upon Him the very gifts that would help Joseph move his family into Egypt, as previous biblical prophets had written would happen. Now, how did Joseph afford to flee into another country? Well, he had all of the valuable gifts the Wise Men gave them. See? Jehovah really does PROVIDE, doesn't he? Also, if the Wise Men were there to kill Jesus, would Jehovah have even have left them get anywhere near Jesus? I don't think so.

These, and many other issues will start to stick out to you. Go luck with your research and understanding, and remember, we cannot rely upon our own understanding to read the Bible, we must use prayerful consideration to God as well.

You've got to be shitting me, right? They are actually touting off some 1981 Watchtower that somehow words in a vague way that an "economic meltdown" was on the way? Let me guess, they probably pulled this same article out when the stock market crashed in 1987 too, huh???? Rinse and repeat!!

Being a JW today is an exercise in repetition; just like a Macaw, today's JW's can be programmed to spout off anything, whether it be from old or new publications, just pick the one to fit the situation. And, since they're programmed to forget past errors and things that didn't come to pass, they come as sounding totally stupid about their own past while they talk to you and try to persuade you that they've been "right all along." Ha-ha!

Wanna know what pissed me off later that evening after I had thought about it? This so-called "friend" could count the entire 20 minute conversation he had with me on his monthly time slip since he slipped that WT crap in on the end of it! Unbelievable! Just another block of time for his time slip.

So, I was at the local mall today and ran into a JW friend that I had grown up with and attended school with. Hadn't seen him in 6 months or so. He didn't see me, so I had to approach him.

The conversation started out as usual, with his condescending b*tch of a wife not even saying word one to me. She's the daughter of a CO, and of course she's better than everyone else. She walked away, and we started to talk about life in general, how his parents are doing, etc. He asked me first how things were going, and I replied, "Just Great! How about you?" Then I get the whole pathetic run-down about tight they are, how he works some route delivering crap, long hours, etc. His pampered wife? Works at cleaning houses of course!! Of course, neither one got an education, my wife and I both have degrees.

So, about 20 minutes into it and about the economy, he lays this one on me, and I saw the set up coming, "Well you know, there was a 1981 Watchtower that PROPHESIED these very hard economic times today!" I actually laughed at him and stated, "You've got to be kidding me, right? This isn't a depression yet; my grandmother lived through the Great Depression - those were hard times, this is merely an economic adjustment. You want to read some old Watchtowers? Go check out the 1984 Bound Volumes, they're priceless!!!" Right then, his wife came back and they had to leave. Man, that saddened me. I was ready to let him have it. You know why? I wanted to tell him that the WT didn't predict the hard economic times, the BIBLE DID. You all remember the scripture telling of the signs of the End Times, hard times hard to deal with, people having no natural affection, men being lovers of money instead of lovers of God, nation rising against nation, kingdom against kingdom. You all remember this. The Watchtower didn't print in some 1981 article that in October of 2008, Wall Street would be crashing. Know why? Because in 1981 NO ONE at Brooklyn Headquarters or any other JW would EVER have believed that we all would still be standing here in this System of Things in 2008 - no one! If you did, you would labeled as "spiritually weak" and laughed right out of the Kingdom Hall. The Generation of 1914 would never last that far, and the end MUST come before they would die off - period!! According to their "prophecies" in the 1984 Watchtowers which is "Newer Light" then a 1981 WT I must assume, we should all be in the New Order by now, so what are we doing standing around in a mall after Christmas complaining about this "old system of things?" Uggh.

To have this friend stand there and actually say something like that to me was just astounding. What's worse, is that I could actually see his personality switching off and the WT one firing up and him going into his presentation. I haven't read Steven Hassan's books yet, but have heard this discussed on here as the "Cult Personality" and it is just really freaky. Also, I found the entire reasoning to be laughable and stupid. Discuss the Bible if you are going to try and preach or make a point; don't discuss an "Old Light" document that is talking about some Bible verses and is trying to make it seem that The Society are the ones doing the prophesying. This was really something to behold in all honesty. Are normal, thinking, intelligent people really buying into this BS today????

I felt bad for him in a way. He is totally brainwashed, and you can actually physically see it. I believe they are having a child soon. Why bother? Isn't the end near? I told him if he thought they were tight now, wait till he has a child! Ha! We have been out of high school a little over a decade now (We were told we'd never make it to jr. High!) and life has not been good to my friend. He looks overweight, tired, over-worked and underpaid. Still tolling for the cult. He didn't mention Jesus or Jehovah once in the conversation, only the WatchTower.

Will this cycle ever end? It has for me and my family. I refuse to be a mindless zombie under the control of a nearly anonymous sheltered group of old men in a Tower that have their every need taken care of for them. They are NOT "The Christ" and I will no longer submit to their life of penny-less servitude.

Heard the name Jehovah no less than 3 times during a Christmas Eve service

so, this is the second year i attended a christmas eve service at my in-laws advent lutheran church.

it is such a nice service with beautiful singing, congregation participation, and a lovely sermon.

this year however, was a bit special.

This year however, was a bit special. The speaker actually used the Almighty's name no less than 3 times in his sermon! I was floored.....a "worldy" church service where Jehovah's name was used??? I mentioned this to my "worldly" wife on the way home from it. She said, "Big deal, I've heard it used in every church I ever attended. We all know the Almighty's correct name, even though mistranslated. It would have been odder to hear him say Yahweh." Again, my jaw dropped. She told me the strangest thing about JW's to her was the fact that only the 144,000 take communion. Her reasoning? Even if the 144,000 is literal and to be Kings over us, Jesus still commanded all to partake whom wanted everlasting life, no matter where it is to be - heaven or earth or both. How can you argue with that?

I told her that growing up as a JW, I was specifically taught that no other religions used the correct Divine Name because it had been mostly removed from their BIbles, and that only JW's really ever used it and knew of it. I figured everyone outside of JW's thought Jesus was the Almighty.

In all honesty, this was a startling revelation to me. Has anyone else experienced this? Do they use Jehovah's name in any church you might attend now? (if you are still Christian that is?)

I've been talking to this guy via email, in order to pump some info about some old timers I had lost contact with, not trying to hassle him at all but occasionally letting my tongue slip here or there. He's a complete stuck-up asshole!!!!!! He looks nice in the photos, but something tells me he's probably an MS asshole.

He swears up and down that Prince being a JW is merely a rumour, that Prince only STUDIED with the JW's but was never baptized. I replied that we didn't want to claim Micheal Jackson in the 1980's either, but he WAS, and was forced to DA after "Thriller." He responded that MJ was never a JW either! I was floored. How in the hell can you deny MJ was not a JW? When I was growing up, everyone knew this - that is why none of our parents wanted us to emulate him in any way even though we knew he went in field service, etc. Either this guy has been living on another planet, or he converted recently. But I think he must have been raised in it as well, as his dad is in and he comes off as socially retarded. I mean just look at his photo comments? Some of them are not only immature, but inhuman.

I guess Micheal Jackson being a JW is just lore of long ago, just like 1975 never happening and the generation of 1914 never dying in this System of Things. I tell ya, they are programmed to forget and believe anything!!!!!!!

I have to say, the way this guy writes is very elementary; he comes off as short and condescending, but I believe it to be his lack of social skills. He writes at a 5th grade level.

The photos you guys saw above that I missed are just great. Those guys with the brooms are too funny, and the weird white guy in the cell of an apartment is just pathetic!!! I can sure see all the hotties jumping all over his Theocratic ass, woo-hoo!!!

When you go into the albums and click on some of the photos, he has some captions. Freakin hilarious. I like the very first photo under "Bethel" it's of some guy that may be a prospective study, and his caption of this poor slob really shows that he only sees the guy as an object, not a human being. Real Christ-like, huh?

The Bethel photos and Farm are really depressing. I couldn't imagine living in that little apartment probably with someone else....no wonder they turn homo!!!

What do you notice about the sports albums? Gee....they are all GIRLS teams!!! This guy is truly sex-starved, and it shows. What a perfect job for a sex-starved never had-a-date JW - photographing High School girls sports teams. Oh yeah, nothing like getting those close-up shots with a 56-300mm zoom lens!!!

This whole album made me want to barf. In the DC pics everyone has one of those glossed-over fake smiles. Like a zoombie saying....."

Please, lets not leave this guy any comments to his photos. I want to leave it untouched so I can keep looking in the future. Maybe I'll see him marry some desperate Suzy Homemaker in the future.

The irony here? Attending sporting events when I was growing up (80's-90's) was considered "bad association" and you were considered "Spiritually weak" by doing so. Guess anything goes today in the liberal JW's!!!!
