  Question about the Annointed.

  when you were still a jw, what was your concept of what happened to those of the "annointed" who had died.

  i remember the scoffing and tittering when we were out in field service when a householder mentioned their belief that their loved ones were in "heaven".

  we were told to ask them "what was heaven like?, were there pearly gates, did people eat up there, did they have emotions?

  The WT says there are two hopes but the Bible says there is only one. (Eph. 1:18; 4:4)

  The 144,000 and the great crowd are one and the same.

  Revelation 7:9 says the great crowd are "out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues." Revelation 5:9, 10 says regarding those who will reign with Christ that they are "out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and you [God] made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth."

  Revelation 7:9 also says the great crowd were "before the throne and before the Lamb." Revelation 4:10 and 5:8 say the 24 elders were "before the the One seated upon the throne" and "before the Lamb." The WT interprets the 24 elders as the 144,000.

  There are others similarities.

  Will the 144,000 alias the great crowd be in heaven or on earth?. At Revelation 5:10, other translations say they will rule "on" the earth.

  Since Revelation 21:1 promises a new heaven and earth after the present heaven and earth have passed away, I think our main concern should be to gain salvation. Wherever it will be, the living will be with God and Christ and will see them face to face. There are all kinds of speculations floating around about the hereafter, but I tend to feel we won't know anything much for sure about it until we get there, if indeed we do.

  I appreciate the confirmation too that there is a yes and no on the board. The big difference I see between the Urim and Thummin (and casting of lots) is that those ancient users were looking to God for answers whereas oija board users sometimes get answers that are obvious untruths and even some that are obscene in nature, according to what I've read in newspapers.

  Amen. It's just as incredible as the WT policy that for decades frowned on a college education while rapidly promoting to prominent positions those members who got an academic education before they became JWs.

  Here I go defending the WT, and I hate to have to do it. But in all fairness it should be pointed out that Dr. Mantley was an ardent trinitarian and a believer in hell-fire. While there is bias on the NWT side, there was also bias coming from him.

  It would be fairer to agree with those scholare who claim that at John 1:1 hardly any translation captures the precise sense in English that the apostle was conveying in the Greek of his day.

  When does a christian receive the Holy Spirit?

  from the new world translation.2 corinthians 1 verse 22 he has put this seal upon us and has given us the token of what is to come that is the spirit in our hearts.

  from this its saying its some future event when a christian receives the holy spirit.. my new english bible says.

  who has placed his mark of ownership upon us, and who has given us the holy spirit in our hearts as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us.

  I'm convinced JWs are wrong about the 144,000, but I believer your interpretation calls for an explanation. What is the scriptural evidence that "the 144,000 are Jewish prophets who will be preaching the truth during the tribulation period"? I personally could never accept that interpretation any more than I could accept the JW translation, unless of course you can show me from the Bible.

  i was looking over the thread... "should i support bill bowen?".

  i realize i am one of the few people that gave bill somewhat of a difficult time pretty much from the beginning when it was not "fashionable" to do so.

  it was never my hope to see the man reduced to what he has, but rather to gain a better understanding of the issues involved, the intents and goals of silentlambs and to see reasonableness govern everyone's actions in the whole affair.. imo, i don't think there is any other single person in the last while that has done so much to help address the issue of child abuse among jw's while at the same time exposing them for what they really are.

  Since "ouija" sounds so much like "wouldya" or "wouldja," some people in fun spell it "ouija please" when they mean "Would you please" do this or that. Perhaps, though, Ros means something else.

  I see nothing wrong in a person or two or three getting together to translate the Bible. It's often been done before, even by persons who were not known as scholars and who had only a limited knowledge of Bible languages.

  What I think is silly is to boast that yours is the work of scholars when you won't even say who those scholars are. It's pure and simple conceit that moves a person to say they didn't want men to receive any glory for producing it. Could it be they didn't want the men who produced it to get the criticism that would surely come from a translation where mistakes were made? No translation is perfect or even the best. Any man or group that claims they've produced such deserves the criticism that they get.
