Patterson display for Jesus on Stake(pics)

if anyone was ever able to visit patterson and get a tour behind the service department's door, you would have noticed this display among the cubicles:.

and the answer to - "where should the nail be?

" you will notice that they do not even attempt to answer the question of the plurality mentioned in the bible regarding the nail(s) through only his hands; they attempt to throw you off by mentioning his feet too.

Thanks for the information.

Since the WTS has no professional researchers with none of them having any kind of degree or certification for any element of their work there, I'm rather doubtful they even came up with the idea that the nail(s) didn't go through Jesus' center of his hand(s) but elsewhere. Of course, this wonderful new insight is accredited to the old men of the GB as "new light".

Bad things in JWs eyes

joy2bfree's post on cults got me thinking.. was anyone else told that certain harmless things (harmless in my eyes) were satanic.. i know you have all mentioned smurfs, but i was also told that the 'my little pony' toys were demonic because they were designed by a wizard?????

did i really believe this rubbish - my daughter always wanted one but i wouldn't buy one for her cos i thought i would be inviting demons into my house - i feel really rotten now!.

also wind chimes (which i always wanted cos i love the sound), anything written by sir arthur conan doyle (and i love sherlock holmes and felt so deprived), the beatles, john denver - can't think of any more at the moment but there were quite a few.

I bought a pokemon toy to a JW friend's kid. She is one of those ultra orthodox JW types who claim special pipelines to elders and the Society. GRIN Anyway, she almost took my head off saying they were designed by demons to entrap children into demonism..

I can believe a Catholic church or diocese going bankrupt but not the Catholic Church. Furthermore, I believe a Catholic church or diocese will appear bankrupt on paper in order to hold law suits at bay from legitimate and illegitimate victims looking for large sums of money. But is anything but.

anyone has speculation or fact why the wts doesn't register their books with the isbn?

(www.isbn.org) every book worth anything carries an isbn number.

Even books published by private publishers. Given the publishing capacity of the WTS organization, I'm rather surprised that all their books lack ISBN. Seems strange.

Any thoughts?

Elders Children

let me know if this was just a local / uk thing.. the elder's children in our area weren't the youngest to get baptised.

there were, in fact, many baptisms much younger than what you would expect, however, there was talk amoung elder's children of "making sure you are ready" and "making sure you are old enough".

now these i call children are 18, 19 even 21. there were ordinary children being baptised at 13, 14 and ocasionally 10.. did these elders and their children know something we didn't.

I think your dad was reasonable an responsible. How could a youngster get baptised and realize how this change of status will govern his or her life indefinately.

It's a trend. At my district assembly they had a 9 year girl on the stage who was baptized that morning. They said some theocratic stuff and the audience applauded. I shook my head.

I think baptism of minors shouldn't be allowed nor should it be 'theocratically' binding.

for those of you trying to sneak out the back door without being dfd or dad...and plan to do holidays, please remember that the jws are tightening their grip on detractors and those who think they can leave without consequences and they will come to your door christmas morning to try to catch you!

i have heard of this countless times since leaving in jan 97. keep everything that might incriminate you away from the front door!!

Official- Bethel cutbacks?

my wife told me that last night a letter was read from the society, explaining how all printing operations in brooklyn were being moved to either walkill or patterson, and that worldwide there would be consolidation of the printing operations.

i know there have been rumors like this floating around here for the last month or so, but now it seems there is confirmation.

has anyone else heard about this letter being read?

I remember when the WTS sent requests for interest free money. Well, they used OUR money quite well, havent they? If you want the loan back, sure, you can have it back - just the principal.

WTS Bills Cong's who don't donate enough $$$$

in a thread about the new wt video on kora, two posters mentioned that the wts sends out bills/statements to the congregations that don't send enough money for the literature/study materials/videos, etc.

two different posters mentioned in the thread "letter read out to congregations" (page one) one bill was for 2k and the other one for $1,400.

(i'm assuming u.s. dollars) .

Interesting. I didn't know they can do that. You learn something every time.

I'm more convinced than ever that the WTS is governed by lawyers and accountants, not by the GB.

aa usual, the boys in bethel prove their aptitude in the ``do as i say but not as i do'' department.

they eloquently laud the virtues of open-mindedness, humility and freedom of speech, as long as it applies to others.

I thought the founder of the Worldwide Church of God was an early JW, or at the very least, a Russellite breakaway who didn't want anything to do with Rutherford or was forced out by Rutherford. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, if so, then that would make sense. After all, I don't read the WTS taking shots at Russelite organizations and groups. First of all, it would encourage interest - it wasn't until the Internet that I learned that Russelite groups existed. You'd think at how the WTS discribed them as they all fell away during the Rutherford term in office that they all died in a black hole somewhere. Secondly, they know where the early WTS skeletons are buried. One shot from the WTS and you can expect they will respond with a retaliatory informational bombshell. And, let's face it, information - even embarrassing information - is powerful!
