Has the rebranding worked?
by MrTheocratic init's been several years since the start of the rebranding of jehovahs witnesses.
i believe it started with the website change.
ever since then the religion has moved in a more modern direction.

I don't think it was a rebranding at all. Most of the changes were because of need from out side pressures. The midweek meeting changed because they had to drop the school. The carts were done to keep people busy and to probably help shield jws from people that would question them and give them trouble. Of course the website again designed to keep those in in.
All thier changes were forced on them by outside issues just like liquidating thier assets in New York caused mostly the need to hide thier money from the attorneys.

Let's also not forget archeology. 1929 they dig up a city called Ugarit, in this city they found writings describing many of the same atributes as those described to Jah. His name not just his title was El.
So if you want to be his true worshipper then one needs to find out what the Canaanites did when they worshiped thier god.

The Bible just says all who believe in Christ or do the will of the father or help his children which are Christians. Jesus says Christians would be people that follow him and he will be with them even if only one or two are gathered together.
Most illustrations used were about helping people and having love.
There's no such group or people that can be called just his gods people. It's everyone that does these things .

Michael Cremo and the book Fobbiden archaeology
by Crazyguy init my understanding that he's claiming that humans have lived on earth for millions of years.
it looks as though he's even showing different archaeological findings to support his claim.
he seams to be claiming that other inferior humanoids could not created some of the things found and i guess modern scientists would agree on that single piont.. its also if interest to find out that his religious beliefs maybe behind his ideas.

What I'm leaning to is that humans or some lesser form with better thinking ability that had been thought has indeed been around maybe a million years or so. This I believe is against the Darwin thought that humans are only about 1-200,000 years old and older humanoids were really stupid. But again thier finding art of statues and drawing of dinosaurs indicating that these humanoids may have been around back then and with better thinking ability. I don't think I agree with this author though , he's pushing the idea of great civilizations millions of years old to go along with his religious beliefs.

Pete's got a good piont. It looks as though the JWs are pathetically trying to make it look like persecution. Climbing a gate when it's wide open just a couple feet down, that's a jw for sure...

Second Temple Judaism's Iranian Connections - something to think about
by fulltimestudent inthe jw's (and many other christians) believe that their religious beliefs are derived from yhwh who personally taught men of old the truth.. this view is not supported by evidence, on the contrary, when we consider the religious beliefs of neighbouring peoples, we can find evidence that the jewish elite were influenced by the religious beliefs of their surrounding neighbours.. this short video purports to demonstrate a connection between jewish thinking at the start of second temple judaism and the iranians who practised zoroastrianism.
.
i (at this time) find the suggestion that the jews conflated their yhwh with the zoroastrian divinity somewhat difficult, but its worth thinking about.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bglgcnjz7_8&t=269s.

And if you move on into the Christian Era you'll find that most of what is taught in the New Testament comes from Egypt. Even part of the Old has Egyptian influences. Curcumsision, baptisms, ark of the covenant, etc.
In the New Testament ideas like life after death in a paradise or heaven. Having a spirit. Judgment, heart condition, second death, lake of fire, and more all come from the much earlier Egyptian religion.

Do you still go to meetings?
by NikL inas i was sitting in the meeting last night i thought about this question.. sometimes it feels really lonely because i don't connect with most others in the congregation and i have to be so careful with the ones with whom i do associate.. quick rundown on my life...got baptized at 17...married at 20...became inactive at 28 wife still active though...came back to meetings with her 20 years later just to keep her quiet and see if they had changed (for a while i actually thought they had)...now i am still inactive and haven't gone out in service or anything.
i just go to meetings with my wife who is happy as a lark to have me there with her...just go to meetings and think...and think...and think.... anyway, i just wondered if there are any out there like me who are going to meetings and nothing else?.

I think if I walked in to my hall I would be dfd on the spot. These guys are really scared of those of us that use our brains. They were warning other elders in other halls about me all the way back when I just asked a few questions.
