The word Elohim means gods plural and the word lord means Baal . El is the top God of the Canaanite pantheon . Bible translators have done a lot of spinning over the decades but those are the facts.

The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures argues for more than one GOD
by smiddy ingen.1:26 "and god went on to say "let us make man in our image according to our likeness.....etc,etc,.. the key words here are "us" and " our" ,he is including other life forms just like him in using plurals.. he did not say " i" will make man in "my" image ,using the singular vernacular.
the same is also noted in gen 3:22 "and jehovah god went on to say " here the man has become like one of " us".
again he is using the plural and not the singlar language clearly showing their were other life forms on an equal footing to him.. also satan via the serpent also knew the difference between good and bad before he tempted eve , showing he was on a par with jehovah god in knowing that fact along with the other gods in heaven.. another scripture that comes to mind is 1 cor.8:5 "........just as their are many gods and many lords,,,".

Comparing the Septuagint to the Masoretic Text: Genealogies in Genesis 5
by ILoveTTATT2 ini started a thread comparing the septuagint to the masoretic text.it is here:https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5665236409384960/comparing-septuagint-masoretic-textfor those who do not know what the septuagint and the masoretic text are, here's an introduction on wikipedia:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/septuagint.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/masoretic_text.
i think that, more than anything else, the fact that the septuagint and the masoretic text are so different, is what made me stop believing in the bible.. and more than anything else, the most striking differences between the septuagint and the masoretic text have to be the genealogies of genesis 5.. the genealogies of genesis 5 are crucial to the jehovah's witnesses, the adventists, and many other religions that place an emphasis on time prophecy.why is that?because they try to make out when the "end of the world" happens based on the 6000 years of human existence, they have to use genesis 5. and, if the numbers in genesis 5 in the bible most people in the western world use are wrong, then the time to creation is wrong, and then the "end of the world date" is wrong.so, what are the differences?the account tells the ages in this format:x person lived for y years.

Comparing the Septuagint to the Masoretic Text
by ILoveTTATT2 ini am going to start a thread comparing the septuagint to the masoretic text.for those who do not know what the septuagint and the masoretic text are, here's an introduction on wikipedia:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/septuagint.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/masoretic_text.
i think that, more than anything else, the fact that the septuagint and the masoretic text are so different, is what made me stop believing in the bible.. since the new testament writers quoted from the septuagint, not from the masoretic text, one would think that the septuagint should be in all the current bibles, but the case is that most bibles today use the masoretic text as the basis of their old testament.

The oldest bible put together codex sicanicus (spelling) never says Jesus was the son of God either. As one chips away at the older bibles and individual bible texts it show a lot different ideas then we see in print today. Like you said the words lord or Elohim are in the Septuagint but not the Tetragrammaton . It's also important to know that in the oldest bibles they have the apocrypha books or at least some of them. And in the Dead Sea scrolls there's other books not even in the bible yet these writing were very important to some of the Jews .

Young JW's attitudes
by Phizzy ini met an old friend last evening, a great guy, an xjw for longer than me.. during a conversation about our experiences since fading (neither of us are da'd or anything) we got to talking about the young jw's.. his wife is still in, and he has two lovely daughters who he is trying to teach the art of critical thinking so that they can make the right choice in the future.. what worries him though is that he is convinced almost all young jw's do not give a "proverbial" if it is the truth or not, they simply wish to remain in it because of the social aspects, loads of friends and activities that they feel safe partaking in etc etc.. so how do you convince these young people that they would have a better life if they left ?.
they see it as losing all their friends, and being alone and trying to build new relationships, which is mostly true.. how do we convince them to make the leap ?.
should they ?.

Mounded From Clay
by konceptual99 injust sitting through this week's wt study and just spent 5 minutes listening to multiple answers where people are convinced that jehovah made humans from clay, literally forming adam like a sculpture then breathing life into him.. it's embarrassing to think i basically thought the same....
