  deuteronomy 32:8-9 describes the most high (god) apportioning the nations to the gods according to “the number of the sons of israel/gods”.

  one can argue over the niceties of the meaning of that expression.

  of interest is that the “most high” allocated jacob to yahweh (“jehovah”).

  Here’s is another big question what is this Israel that is spoken about ? It seems to me that the Bible Old Testament was written most of it around the time the Jews were in Babylon. So why mention an Israel this Israel in my opinion never existed as a nation . There was the Omnrides that ruled north of Judah but only two texts ever found The Merneptah Stella and a writing in Assyria that say something different then Omri. These two are said to say Israel but when you look you’ll see that that’s very suspect.

  With so many of the writings in the Bible being taken from older pagan texts , the Old Testament to me has no more reality to it then the writtings about the knights of the round table.

  I should also mention the idea of newer gods absorbing the older gods or at least their attributes was very common back then. Osiris became the supreme god of Egypt taking the attributes of RA , Thoth and Anubis. Marduk took over and became the most supreme god of Babylon and Enlil took over for his father Anu.

  The NRsv is definitely the most accurate translation in my opinion. They god their translation from a script that was found that stated this. The others don’t make any sense but we’re changed because the religion was moving to monotheism. How can god give the lands to the sons of Israel when they couldn’t even hold on to their little patch?

  Its also interesting that several of the characters in the Bible seem to take on some of the elements of god or one of the gods they worshipped. For example Gideon had 70 sons. El the supreme god of the Canaanites also had 70 sons. In my opinion El was recognized as the supreme god by the Bible writers and Yahweh was either a newer god that took on the attributes of El or the same diety with just a different name. Yahweh also took on the attributes of Baal Hadad and also Anat and others in my opinion.

  Sounds like you could sue your father and maybe your ex but I don’t think you would have any reason to sue the cult. Also you would need proof or your wasting your time. Sorry for what your father did!

  so...while chatting with my ultra "spiritual elder" father on the phone this afternoon, i couldn't resist using that line!.

  i had sent him that video of the recent convention showing brothers and sisters dancing to the "kingdom song" and waving their illuminated phones and arms in the air like some sort of revival church concert.

  (perhaps someone can post that link to that thread again here?).

  I found Peterism very intriguing. I do believe the events talked about in the New Testament were events that happened before they were written about. I think someone was creating a history and a life for thier messiah.

  i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.

  i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.

  The Perfect Storm in 2018?

  i have been sadly watching as the number of jws in other countries are decreasing (for the most part), while the numbers in the us are strangely increasing.

  while i question the organization's self reporting numbers, i think 2018 may be the year for another mass us exodus.

  leah remini's show will be focusing on jws in her show on a&e.

  They have lost the ability to catch to many new victims at the doors and the magazine racks are a massive disappointment. But they are using nicely produced propaganda videos at the conventions. The ones in may not be so easy to get out but with no new ones from the field the cult will still loose.

  In the end those that are in the ones that wake up are still those that have been victims of the cult. The rest will still be asleep. Like me and my wife , I woke up because of things that didn’t add up and then was trashed for questioning. The wife on the other hand was praised for her faith her friends rallied around her and she didn’t really loose. She still has all the material things that I supply etc, so why the hell would she wake up.

  The only difference I see now is with the internet it’s easier for those that wake up to become informed and because of this whole family’s are leaving.

  Eavesdropping on a home Bible Study

  my mil held a bible study round to our place today and i was home so was interested to listen in from the next room to see what the quality of the study was like.
