I often play music, but not loudly. Also, I often read while commercials are on during TV viewing, or during things like baseball games so I don't fall asleep. It also helps divert my eyes from the screen, which is why I also read while using the computer, waiting for log-in or certain functions which seem to take forever.

You're holding to what the Bible says much more so than the jws are.
As soon as a child doesn't quite do what they (parents, other jws) want, their kneejerk reaction is to penalize the child in some way, normally by withdrawing approval and association. All that serves to do is alienate the very person they are tryng to win over.

I sat on a jc on several occasions. hated every minute of every one of them.
Perhaps the worst one was dfing a woman who had just moved into the area because she smoked. No one in the congregation knew her, and when her dfing was announced, there were looks of puzzlement on many faces, and a few asked afterward who she was.
She may have attended one meeting, an elder found out she smoked, and before I knew it, I was sitting to judge her. I should have opened my mouth and protested the whole thing, but I went along with the elders, one of whom was much more dominating in personality than me and the other who was older and more experienced.
During the meeting the woman cried and the elders with me showed no compassion. I felt bad for her, but didn't speak up. And frankly, I never bought into smoking as a dfing offense anyway.

Serena and Venus make money on Ancient Egyptian religious ceremony
by DevonMcBride ini found a web site about the history of tennis and was interested to learn that this game has pagan roots among the ancient egyptians.
here is a snippet from the web site.
ball games can be traced back to ancient times and the earliest representations can be found in carvings in egyptian temples dating from 1500bc.

Two ways of looking at this:
1. Yep, S & V Williams, Inc., are indeed making big bucks off a game with pagan roots.
2. It shows the folly of jw stances against things with supposed pagan roots, and how the wts will simply pick and choose rather than condemn all things pagan. So much of what passes as normal activity is rooted in paganism to at least some degree that it would be far better to simply have never banned stuff like b-days in the first place.

The 'thing' you can't separate the poster from
by Preston ini was thinking today about how all sorts of famous people from history had that one 'thing' that they were remembered by, whether it was hitchcock's silhouette, charlie chaplin's kane, or churchill's victory sign.
what is that one "thing" you remeber posters by (whether visual, or instrinsical) i did a short list.
please add.... i did this on a whim.

WHICH BIBLE BOOK has caused the most trouble in the world?
by Terry ini'd vote for revelation since every nutcase who ever came down the pike has tackled it verse for verse and applied it to the time in which he was living.
ever notice that?
no matter what decade or century, people reading the bible always think that it applies to their time.

Poz, you're not alone. There was much debate about Revelation's place in the Bible canon before it was accepted.

I'd go in, but it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the league. My football knowledge is so deep, so thorough, that I'm known as an amalgam of Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry, Bill Belichick, Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, and Joe Gibbs. My team would no doubt go undefeated, leaving my fellow jwd members saddened and frustrated.

I CONFRONTED THE ENTIRE CONGREGATION TODAY
by Corvin intoday, i was on the scene of the local congregation of jw's where my ex-wife and her husband attend.
physical, emotional and mental abuse has been purpetrated upon my kids for eight years now.
they have been victims of alcoholism, verbal bashings and they have been made to watch their stepfather beat the hell out of their mother and then be halled off to jail without saying a word to anyone for fear fo reprisal from him and their mother.

Wow, what a situation.
They care more about their imaginary "spritual danger" than the abusive treatment your kids received. Good job stating your case.
