Talesin, just remember those cruel winters, like that 37 inch snowfall in 2004. It's hot here too, but I'll take this over winter any day.

CAN MEN AND WOMEN JUST BE "FRIENDS"?
by Mary inor will one of them invaribly end up being attracted to the other?
-
rocketman
No.
Okay, maybe.
But for me, there's two kinds of female friends. 1) The ones I'm attracted to and 2) The ones I'm not attracted to. Now, which ones do I try to actually spend time with? You guessed it. Which really means that, on some level, I want them to be more than just friends, even if the opportunity is not there or it's just not the right thing to do. But there is a boundary that for whatever reason(s) cannot be crossed. So far, I've always stayed on the "right" side of that boundary...dammit.

JWD Awards??
by RichieRich inso, i was thinkin, and got hit with a good idea.
everyone whos been here for more than a week has posters that they love, and posters that they loathe.
some make laugh, some make us cry, and some drive us right up the wall.... so to honor that, i think we should have some sort of jwd award session... (should simon approve).

Similar threads have popped up from time to time. In the past I would generally would rather refrain from singling out some posters, because I think others who don't get mentioned sometimes feel overlooked....but in the interest of being in the swing of things, and since this thread apparently has
God'sSimon's "blessing", I'll nominate myself for the Only Elton John Avatar Award.Buh-bye now.

Venus Does Yoga
by rocketman ini was watching the new williams sisters "reality" show (abc family, 10 pm) and in it venus was in a session with the sister's personal trainer.
venus was instructed to do yoga while she and the trainer got tips from a video.
in the video, the instructor was doing various chants and uttering various phrases, and venus is shown saying "some of it is ungodly and against my christian beliefs, but i have to do it anyway".

They posed in Sports Illustrated some years back draped in American Flags, and the impression the photo gave was that that was all they were wearing. But I guess being draped in a flag isn't the same as saluting it.
Blondie, yes, the trainer did indeed seem to be dictating her conscience. Venus giggled embarassingly, then went ahead and did what she was told.

James Doohan - Star Trek's "Scotty" Dies
by El Kabong injust saw this on cnn .

Scotty will be missed. He was very funny in Star Trek IV, and I especially like the line in which he tells Spock that Kirk is in a "wee bit of a snit".
Speaking of ST conventions, I was at one where John DeLancie, a/k/a "Q" seemed in, well, in a wee bit of a snit. He didn't seem very pleasant when signing autographs. Well, I guess when you're omnipotent, there's no need to be cheerful.

Could we be right, and they be right too?
by JH inis it possible that just about everything we say about the jw's on this forum is true, but on the other hand they would be the only true religion that god approves, even though they are imperfect and make errors?

Interesting thread topic and comments. I cannot see how they can be the true religion, for many of the same reasons already mentioned. In addition, they fail by their own criteria. What I mean is that they easily dismiss other religions as untrue often based upon just one or two teachings or practices of the religion. They've often used the logic that 'even just a drop of poison in a glass of water makes the whole glass unfit to drink'. At the very least, they fail miserably by their own criteria.

From what I've read of the Answers In Genesis site, there's a Young Earth Creationism slant to much of what is written there. As far as "unsolved problems" are concerned, we might note two interesting examples of what might be considered "unsolved problems": - In 1783, astronomer John Mitchell predicted the existence of a star so massive that light could not escape its gravity. This projection would be hard to accept because its prediction could not yet be observed. However, over 200 years later, the predicted existence of such massive stars has been confirmed, as the Hubble Space Telescope has amassed evidence of the existence of Black Holes. - The Greek astronomer Democritus predicted in the 4th century BCE that matter was composed of atoms. It took about 2,400 years for man to learn confirm their existence and learn to manipulate them. These examples show that sometimes it takes quite some time for proof of certain theories and predictions to be realized. Simply dismissing such as "unsolved" and thus "proving" something else can be a serious mistake in judgement.
