i am confused, which interpretation of the "olive oil and the wine" did the holy spirit give to the "faithfull slave"?
did the holy spirit forget to correct the reasoning book?
i think jesus and jehovah must be getting confused as to what they are currently teaching the fds, or maybe bethel hasn't paid the bill on that big red phone that jesus calls them on?
Some have viewed it as meaning that while many would be short of food and even starving, the luxuries of the rich would not be harmed. But in the Middle East, oil and wine are not really luxuries. In Bible times, bread, oil, and wine were viewed as staples.
Evidently the "Some" includes the writer of the Reasoning book and the WTS itself. Wouldn't be the first time that the word "some" was used in such a shady way by the WTS.
Good observation on a seemingly obscure point, rassillon.
there is a clever volkswagen tv ad currently running in the u s that depicts various types of people driving cars that reflect their personality, like older males driving sleek sports cars to compensate for their "shortcomings" or a younger man driving an expensive european sedan as he pronounces with a bullhorn "because my father never hugged me!
or another who says "because i make more money than you!
have any of you ever gotten your self image tangled up with a vehicle?
I want a Hybrid 4-Door Honda - besides being great for the cost of gas; it's also a great service car!
Hey Tres, I always knew you were a devout, field service-minded jw at heart! I don't think my personality is manifested somehow in the vehicle(s) I drive. I tend to buy based on practicality, features, gas mileage, and price. Btw, in the VW commercial, it's too bad they can't have some guy in a hulking SUV or pickup truck calling out on his megaphone "I'm compensating for the small size of my member". That's usually the thought that comes to my mind when I see some guy driving a Hummer or a similar vehicle.
French Fries.
Yeah, not exactly Chinese, but the local Chinese buffet has some of the best fries in the area. Go figure.
i apologize if there is already a thread concerning this but the following article is intriguing: http://www.pressbox.co.uk/detailed/society/jehovah_s_witnesses_katrina_disaster_relief_fund_donation_or_profits__36046.html
Interesting, but I'm a bit wary without seeing something to substantiate this rather provacative claim. One thing I will say is that even years ago, there was a clear trend toward earmarking more money for the WWWork. For example, all leftover Circuit Assmebly monies were to be forwarded to the WTS for the WWW, once all local assembly expenses were met and resolutions were taken care of. Also, elders were told that the congregation was no longer to hold any 'rainy day' type of savings account. Any excess funds were to be sent to the WTS. On one occasion, a Circuit Overseer demanded that money held in an account from a deceased donor, specified by that donor specifically for local needs (such as assisting congregation members financially if they fell on hard times) was to be sent to the Society. The sheepish elders of course complied.

Good work Blondie...and another example of how the WTS, under the guise of advising that Christians make their own decisions, ends up delving into matters that are best left up to the individual and end up effectually making the decisions for the rank and file jw. The examples they give are ludicrous, especially the one involving delivering mail.
fri. was the day after the full moon.
i wasn't going to go out since i was going to my sister's b-day party sat., but i just really wanted to get out.
it had been a long week and tax season was finally, finally over.. so i got to the bar a bit early and hung out with the employees.
Daystar,
The obvious problem is text messaging. You've ingnored the loving warnings from the WTS that texting may lead to flirting with people of the opposite sex. Now you're in a pickle due to text messaging and ignoring Jehovah's counsel through his loving Organization.
hi my name is lillian and i am posting for my first time.
i was a witness along with my husband and two children for 12 years and gave in my letter of disasociation about a year and a half ago.
i have struggled with the guilt of bringing my family in contact with the witnesses (i have always been a bible searcher) and i am only coming to terms with this recently.. i now consider myself a born again believer in christ jesus and read my bible daily to check and see what is true.
Welcome! Your introductory story was quite interesting and in many ways mirrors what my family and I went through - and many others here went through as well.
now that the gerontocrats have dispensed with their annual springtime campaign of blustering everyone away from the wine and bread, it's now time to for the yearly decalogue of decorum; an epistle to the clueless.. in the april kingdom ministry the old farts tackle their annual chore of getting their dubbies to somehow behave like normal, thoughtful human beings when let loose on the public away from their kingdom halls.. what do we find on page 5?
``reminders" to the rabble not to save seats; not to leave the premises during the noon lunch break, nor to bring booze or large coolers; to tip at least 15% to 20% when dining at restaurants.
this, i believe is a first; they now feel they have to coach jws on just how much is considered apopropriate by ``worldly" (read ``normal") human beings.
Ah yes, the annual covention reminders. Brings back memories, none of them good.
As Rebel said, the reminders are, sad to say, necessary. Which makes us wonder of course how God's Chosen People can behave so boorishly. But as already alluded to, since they think they're better than the worldlings with whom they cross paths before and after the convention, their attitude is reflected in their behavior.
The simple fact is, these conventions would not even be remotely possible without the "world". The hotels are owned and serviced by worldlings. Restaurants are staffed by them. Transportation is operated by them, streets and highways built and maintained by them. Perhaps if jws really took some time to realize that without such people and things their conventions would be impossible, they'd think twice about acting like locusts, stripping bare everything in sight.
Oh, that's right....they want to be compared to locusts, as their interpretations of Revelation indicate.
i am going back to work tomorrow.
i had seven wonderfrul, heavenly weeks off from work following my surgery.
i truly enjoyed reading the posts every day during my house bound weeks.
Once the pain from the surgery lessens, it's kind of like a nice little vacation, isn't it?
Now it's back to the rat race....
