Could the story of the global flood be, well, nothing more but a story, told to drive home a point, much like Jesus' story of the Good Smaritan? If Jesus repeatedly used parables to teach, would God have used them to teach as well?

If there was no global flood - does this mean that the Bible is not inspired?
by Olin Moyles Ghost indo you agree that if there was no global flood, then the bible is not inspired?
here are my thoughts.. it is pretty obvious that there was no global flood 4,000 years ago.
) that there were one or more large local floods in mesopotamia around the time of noah.

Why do women...
by LouBelle intend to put their lives on hold when they are with a new man.
they tend to make this new guy their all.
they leave their girlfriends in the dust and spend every waking minute with him and when he is with his friends they still sit at home and wait.

As much as men need women, women do seem to have a certain "need" for a man that sometimes goes beyond reason or at least beyond what might be considered practical in terms of what the man actually gives back. I think that contributes to the appearance that some women are dropping all else to focus on this guy.
I think also that women are under more societal and perhaps family pressure to land a steady man. The independent woman who stands on her own and is her own person is a notion that is gaining ground, but I think a lot of people still buy into the notion that she's not "complete" without a guy.

OOps,
Anyway, using 1 Cor 15:44 seems incorrect to me. It says that 'if there is a physical body, there is a spiritual one. God has no physical body.

Back in the 70s, I thought Disco was a sad ending to an otherwise pretty darned good decade of music. However, looking back, some disco songs have aged pretty well and I've reconsidered my negative view of at least some of it. That said, there are quite a few examples of Disco songs that are terribly repetitive and so bland that I'm glad the era is gone.

Yet another New England snowstorm (we're just getting light snow in Eastern PA).
Obviously, all those sports championships have brought the wrath of God upon you.

i know the group that my wife attends will be having a bit of a party afterwards.

When I was in, the percentage of attendance for the bookstudy was almost always a bit lower than that of the KH meetings, but it was off only a point or two in terms of percentage, and sometimes it would exceed that of the TMS/SM.

Goodbye to JWD ... hello to JWN !
by Simon inas i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/.
it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

Kind of blows my whole theory - that Jehovah had finally acted and wrecked the work of Simon's hands.
But wait; just like the WTS, I'll simply adjust my understanding. The light grows brighter!

Mouthy,
It is interesting seeing Dansk's reply...and revisiting this thread each year thus far has been kind of like seeing a snapshot in terms of time and place.
No more kool aid,
We've lighted the tree and, this year, even put decorations outside for the first time (we don't have an outlet out front so it's just a ribbon and bows) but so far, no calls from elders. I do wonder when that might change. It's almost as if we're daring them.
Tex, Lisa, Scarred:
Good seeing you again!
