Anyone who's seen 'Man of Steel', can we talk about SPOILER-related stuff?

okay...so...that said, i haven't seen the movie, which would be a paradox except that i read the novelization.

so...how'd you feel about the way it ended?

A guy I work with raises a similar question about the ending of Star Trek (2009):

At the end, Kirk offers assistance to Nero as his ship is being pulled into the black hole. Spock initiates a quick sidebar and disagrees with this decision to extend help (understandable, since Nero destroyed Vulcan). The discussion is rendered moot when Nero says he would rather die, blah, blah, blah.

The guy claims that this is ending goes against the Trek tradition of not killing and trying to save lives, even when it's the bad guy. He may have a point - it does seem rather un-Trek like to kill off an enemy.

For example, even during multiple encounters with Khan, Khan was never killed off (in Wrath of Khan, it was Khan who destroyed his own ship as a result of deploying the Genesis device), despite being probably the most notorious villain in the Trek universe.

Personally, I wasn't all that troubled by this scene, though I would tend to agree that it was a bit un-Trekish.

Don Nelson's story is, well, a letdown. For me anyway. It seems he went from being a religious zealot to being, well, a religious zealot.

Technically, the answer is correct, in that, if a church is indeed a group of people, and the meaning was limited to just that.

The problem is that the terms, in typical understanding, are interchangable. So when a person says "I'm going to chruch", they usually mean that they are attending a religious service that involves a group of people coming together at a given location to worship.

We all know the real reason that they don't call it a church, which has already been mentioned. Can't be like that dirty old gal Christendom now, can we?

Falling asleep whilst praying..

when i believed in jehovah(tm), i'd pray to him at night.

i'd doze off.. i remember admonition from the podium that it was disrespectful to doze off during our personal prayers to imaginary sky god jehovah(tm).. i'd wake up.

say sorry to jehovah(tm) then either carry on grovelling or just end it.. one thing's for sure, asleep or awake, pray or not it makes no difference........no one's listening!.

I'd often fall asleep while praying too. In fact, it's a pretty good antidote for insomnia.

Is This Site As Active As It Was In The Past?

sometimes it seems this place buzzes and other times, not so much....but maybe it's all in my head..

The pace is still dizzying for someone like me who visits about once/day and hardly ever on weekends. I find myself trying to catch up, and I have to pass on what are probably many worthwhile threads.

There are some things I'd love to see from the new site:

1. A type of "Like" function. As much as I hate to mimic a Facebook idea, there are a lot of really good posts that I cannot quote, especially on threads that run several pages. It would be great to let the writer of an excellent post that you appreciate their effort.

2. A User Control Panel.

3. A Thread Preview, whereby pointing the mouse to a thread topic opens a brief preview of the thread. This would help users (like me) to narrow down, to some extent, the threads that they will find worthwhile and interesting.

This Relatively New Governing Body @ Bethel Not Liked By Bethelites Even the Ass Kissers

when i was a bethelite back many years ago(1970's), a lot of bethelites would say negative things about knorr, kline, and other members of the gb in private conversation.

there was at that time more freedom to express these things without feeling too threatened, which i feel is no longer the case.. now we have a completely new governing body all appointed after 1999 except for losch(1994).

since that time we have seen a steady increase in authoritarianism from this self proclaimed august body, where no descension or voicing a negative opinon with reguards to the governing body is allowed.

Do you have evidence of this? You're making an assumption. While it may be somewhat valid, based on past experience, it's still only an assumption.

No Booing Allowed At District Conventions Especially During Apostate Hate Speech Talks

this district assembly talk is so bad it a shame that no one is allowed to get up boo it, or voice anything negative about it, they have a captive audience of heads noding yes and claps of approval and agreement with every word or else.. it would liven up things if a group spread out in a stadium and started yelling "hate speech hate speech!
