Holiday questions
by searchingforfriends ini have been thinking about some things, and realized i can't remember ever being given good reasons for not celebrating certain holidays... i was wondering if anyone here can help out with this.
jw's like to complain about origins of certain holidays and have come up with a bunch of reasons why they are bad, (such as birthday's and christmas) but there are others that all i've ever heard is just not to take part, or that jehovah doesn't like it.
even though i was "raised in the truth" i can't remember ever hearing why.....

In five hours I head out for Kentucky. This is the Kentucky Apple Festival weekend, otherwise known as "Apple Day". This is always the highlight of my year and something I never want to miss, though occasionally I have.
There will be lots of good food, bluegrass, gospel, and country music. There will be alot of mountain crafts, along with the flea market and parade.
So far the weather looks promising, and not too hot either. Last year was a scorcher at 92 degrees.
I will no doubt connect with some old friends, and maybe make some new friends.
I am also curious to see how political this years Apple Festival is. I usually go and hang out with the republican headquarters. The biggest political year I believe was in 2002 when they had the wet/dry election, the dry's won, of course.
I can't wait to eat some of those delicious fried pies, and maybe a tiger ear too !
I will let you all know how it went, when I get back. -

Wanting to date, but
by Junction-Guy inwell first off, i am mostly happy being single.
i don't have this big desire to get married again, in fact i am kind of commitment shy now, and don't know how i ever would be able to function in a relationship again.
but there are certain events and certain times of the year when i feel alone and would like a date.

Well if it weren't for Mitt Romney, Huckabee would be the nominee, so now we have to live with McCain, but Sarah Palin makes McCain much more electable.

I think she made a good point, we have the resources, and we need to use them, and it is alot more too.
My family grew up in the heart of the billion dollar coal field, coal is essential to our economy almost as much as oil. We need to use these resources.
During the Clinton years the coal inustry suffered, during the Bush administration the coal industry has boomed. For the first time in ages new jobs are opening up in the coal field. The trains are running day and night instead of idling on the tracks.
We have the resources, we have the technology to make them more environmentally friendly. We need to use our own resources instead of being held captives to the middle east and venezuela.
I like her energy plan, despite it being somewhat different than John McCain. -

I think they both did an excellent job at this debate, alot of the commentator's do too.
I think she held her own very well, I think for the most part she gave reasonably quick answers, honest answers, she didn't have to to ponder them awhile, with the exception of a couple times.
I am pleased with this debate, and I am impressed with the moderator for being fair and unbiased. -

Thanks, yeah I believe the time has come to start taking some small steps again. I just don't know how to casually date, I have always been in the past of the mindset of looking toward the future, so I put the cart before the Ox. What if I really like her company, but not looking for marriage? It wouldnt feel right to lead her on, then dump her when a commitment is inevitable.
Maybe someone like me that is just coming out of a failed marriage, and not looking for anything serious. Kind of like having an agreement up front. -

Does anyone like the smell of Mennen Skin Bracer? I used to wear that until I overheard someone talking about me one day. They said "yeah he always smells like he wears old man salve" needless to say I quit wearing Skin Bracer.

Finally Free, I feel kinda the same way now. I enjoy having my personal space and freedom, it would be very hard to give that up now. I just don't believe I am relationship material anymore either. Maybe a date or two just for fun, but unless I fall head over heels in love, I would probably put up a wall of separation.
