I put my dirty clothes in the hamper and they end up clean a few hours or days later in the drawer or closet. That is one hard working hamper, or should I give credit to my wife?

Did this ever seem weird to you?
by whyhideit inthe jehovah's witnesses have been saying for years now that the end could happen at anytime.
yet when you want to become a jehovah's witness it takes about one to three years of studying to actually be allowed to get baptized.
it seems to me that this would be like seeing a train about ready to hit someone and rather then push them out of the way, you first ask them if they know how to build a train and then explaining it to them in detail.. just seems to send a mixed message of "the end time is near" and then "but we have plenty of time to get things planted in your mind before it arrives.".

Maybe I am dating myself, but I never saw the majority working themselves into the organization within six months. There were a couple, but for the most part it took a year or more. Generally a person would study, quit, study, quit and then study to the point of baptism. Maybe if they did not wait so much, it would be possible to get finished up in six months.

How will you find happiness?

Happiness is a personal state of mind, that needs to be found on an individual basis. To me, happiness is "no fear to explore and experience what ever life throws me."

Did a stranger baptize you?
by JH inshouldn't it have been the person who gave you your bible study, that should have baptized you?
in matthew 28:19,20 it says "go therefore and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit.. the way i see it, it should have been the one who gave you the biblical knowledge, that should have baptized you.
making disciples is phase one, and baptizing them is phase two.

Wham, dunk, thank you sir. That was the extent of my relationship with the man who baptized me. I was a one-dip-stand.

Time for a new Org for THE silent lambs?
by Prisca inthe actions of bill bowen over recent months have lead many to conclude that he is more interested in his organisation, silentlambs, rather than the issue of protecting and supporting the silent lambs.
as kismet said:the sl.org vehicle has been poorly identified as being of support to victims of abuse rather than it actually being an activist organization intent on changing policy through the media and the courts and public pressure .

Maybe it has nothing to do with how someone or some organization is doing something. Maybe it has to do with people, survivors and others just observing, knowing that some where on this huge globe of seven billion humans is someone who cares enough to at least try. Whether their methods are correct, whether their motives are affective, whether the end result will amount to anything other then a mere comma on the book of human history. Means nothing in comparison to a victim of an oppressive religion seeing a spot of light that means to them, "you are not alone, and there are people trying to help." Perhaps that is the falling tear of the silentlambs, to have some sort of voice and some sort of support. Something after all, beats nothing at all.
So we can point out the things that upset us all day long, and say what should be done to make it the way we think is successful. On the other hand, we could do something on our own to make the world a better place and brighten the light of hope and comfort, and stop spending so much time trying to make it grow dark once again.

What Kept You "In The Truth"?
by minimus inwas it family, friends, the belief that this all was really true?

I thought it was the one correct religion, even though I never checked others on my own to prove it. When I realized it was just as full of it as the rest, I left. I did not want to waste anymore of my days, worshiping the tower.

Give credit, good or bad, where it is due

This might sound familiar
.A family in the Kingdom Hall is having some troubles with money. They are hardly making enough to feed the family and pay bills, because something has happened in their lives that is financially devastating. The congregation gets together and soon they provide the family with meals, extra work to make money and even a ride to the meetings to save on gas. Who is given credit for these actions? It was Jehovah's blessing of course!
Think about the above example and think of what it is a mirror reflection of below.
A man starts having problems in his marriage. He decides to respond to the advancements of a female workmate and soon he starts having extra martial sex. This troubles his conscience in time, and he goes to the elders and confesses his sins and ask for forgiveness from his wife and Jehovah. Who is given credit for these actions? It was the temptation of Satan and his world of course!
So I want to know
According to the Bible and Jehovahs Witnesses, are we to think that we are nothing more then puppets who get pulled by strings to do good and bad? Depending on the master, who is running the show at this moment in our lives?
Can humans actually do something good to another human and take credit for it? Can they actually say, "I am a good person and I wanted to help someone and God had nothing to do with it?"
Can a human being actually do something wrong and say, "I did this action, I wanted it and I knew it was wrong? There is no one to blame but me?"
It seems to me that is a big step to overcome in life, as an Ex-Jw or anything else. To actually admit that we have control over our own actions and we cannot go around pointing fingers at others for making us do something as if it is beyond our control. God did not make you a Witness. You did!* The Devil did not make you get Disfellowshiped, Disassociated, or inactive. You did!
Personal responsibility is so hard to come by in our day and age, and few people seem to want it. It is so much easier to just say "God made me do good, and Satan made me do bad." I think it is time to give credit to where credit is due and remember an old congregation illustration that went "when you point fingers, remember you have three more pointing back at you." So to me, to truly accept our place in this world and move forward. We must first accept the responsibility and control we have over it. If you want to truly change into the person you hope to be, you need to accept who is holding the reigns, and stop trying to pretend that they are in the hands of someone else.
"Give credit, good or bad, where it is due."
*Knowing this might cause people to say, "my parents made me do it." I would like to point out that children are prone to please. This is the innocents of youth! Often we grow up and learn that we made many mistakes as childern, and even as adults. This could be due to lack of proper knowledge and information or child-like insecurities to please. In all though, we made the decision to join the religion based on the information we had at the time.

I say, "do what you want to be happy." If it gets you DF'ed, it's not like they do not have reinstatement for that sort of thing. Plus, you would not exactly be breaking new ground. I witnessed that happening about a dozen times. That whole, "no grounds" thing, was a sick mind game played by people to hurt one another. If you don't want to be married and your not able to regain happiness, that is grounds. Life is to short to be in a relationship that makes people miserable.
