  Organization's Viewpoint Changes

  did anyone ever question the terminology often used when there is an organizational change ?.

  they often will mention that "some brothers consciences have permitted them" to do this or that, thereby changing or relaxing the current viewpoint on an issue.

  i always wondered if some "had" actually done the thing prior to the article being published, wouldn't they have been df'd or da'd.

  I've noticed they generally refer to these unnamed "some" when they are relaxing a policy (blood, voting, etc), or if they are disowning a failed prediction. When introducing the new viewpoint, it becomes the opinion of "mature Christians" or "God's people".

  This was formerly the opinion of some, but God's people today know that...

  Only a subtle difference, but try reversing the two - it doesn't work.

  someone asked if i would play the theme from the "peanuts" shows.

  i said i've always wanted to learn and play it, so this would be a good opportunity for me to do so.

  By the way, that tetris theme doesn't have a base clef, does it?

  No, it's a guitar score. The notes on the guitar only go down to about the middle of the bass clef, so we just use a single treble clef and ledger lines where necessary.

  It's not me, it's from the same site as the PDF. ( http://dirk.meineke.free.fr/ ) It was sequenced using a program called TablEdit (guitar tablature editor).

  Hey Farkel, you up for another challenge? I was searching around for some new sheet music a few months ago (I'm a guitarist) when I stumbled across this little gem: http://dirk.meineke.free.fr/popular/nn_guess_me_pdf.zip

  When you stop ROTFL (like I did) over the sheer absurdity of someone transcribing this for classical guitar, would there be any chance of a piano version? I'd record it myself, but I only have a cheap microphone that picks up more background noise than anything else.

  can anyone explain to me what the "gehena" is?

  i've seen it all over the nwt yet i haven't seen it once in my christian bible.

  But how come I have never seen the word "Gehena" used in other bibles, just in the NWT? Whats the real translation from hebrew to english?

  It means "the Valley of Hinnom", or "the Valley of the sons of Hinnom". You might find different variations such as Ge-hinnom in some translations. And it's sometimes translated as "hell fire" when used in the metaphorical sense. ( = "eternal destruction", for reasons already mentioned).

  i was always amazed by the certain elders that really got into giving heavy counsel, while, they themselves, needed to take their own advice.you know, the elder that always picked on the families that weren't perfect, and was the first to volunteer to give the local needs talk on how to bring up your kids.

  meanwhile, the elder's own children were smoking and dating "unbelievers".

  and i always smirked when the theocratic ministry school overseer gave tough counsel on timing and the use of word-whiskers and pronunciation, while always violating his own criticisms............what drove you crazy??

  I didn't like the fact that a lot of genuinely good people in the congregation were constantly overlooked for certain positions, while some elders' kids who rarely so much as went out in field service were promoted to ministerial servants at the drop of a hat.

  There is a rat on this forum

  i think someone on this forum is a rat....or troll as i think they are called.. i am sitting at home last night watching fear factor, and there was a knock at the door.. i opened it to find two elders from my old hall.

  they did not seem very sincere when they apologized for disturbing me without notice.. they said the purpose of there visit was to just to check up on me, find out if my circumstances or opinions had changed.

  we ended up in a huge conversation about my "inactivity", they wanted to know if there was anything keeping or holding me back from the truth, and wanted to know if there was anything i needed to get of my chest, cause guilt has away of keeping people back.

  It's got to be the elders themselves. Really, who would be dumb enough to approach them and admit they were reading this stuff, especially if it was just a suspicion? That's a bit like saying: "Brother Pious, I'm really concerned....yesterday I went to see a porn movie and I saw someone who looked a bit like Brother Hotrod in the seat three rows up from mine. I think you should confront him and find out for sure."

  I was just thinking the same thing. How long before they try to claim that first pic as a "prophecy"?

  But then again, the next one shows the plane heading away with the buildings still intact, so I guess it's business as usual in the WTS prophecy dept.

  Flashbulbs

  can someone explain the paranoia that exists regarding flashbulbs at the assemblies ???.

  i mean, it's not like we have never seen them before and they would draw our attention away from something.

  if anything, when you see a lot of flashing lights, it draws attention to the person or event, not to the cameras.

  I've heard that it's because they videotape the assembly programmes (especially the dramas) and they don't like having the finished video ruined by bright flashes every couple of seconds. Either that or the speakers & performers find it distracting.
