  Who would have left if....

  inspired by a recent thread quoting from an awake.

  some people who were once faithful christians have purposely drawn away from god,perhaps because of bitterness,pride, or greed, and are now "apostate fighters" against god's spirit.they willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing.

  have these induividuals committed the unforgiveable sin?

  It's supposed to be so obvious to everyone that JWs have the Truth... because... well they just do, and everyone knows it. So when someone who has just been woken up at 9:00 on a Sunday morning says "not interested," they are willfully rejecting God and opposing his organization. Who could possibly stand in the face of such opposition, nay, persecution? Only God's Spirit-Directed Organization, surely. </sarcasm>

  (I also find it interesting that they can say Jehovah is the final judge - after making such strong judgments about people's motives themselves.)

  Elders' kids - special treatment?

  it seems to be the opinion of some on this board that elders' kids received special treatment, weren't punished for their wrongdoings, etc.. as the daughter of the po in our small congregation, let me tell you that it was much harder for me than for the kids of those who weren't elders.

  our family was expected to be the "model family for displaly purposes" and we were held up to very high standards so that we didn't "stumble" anyone.

  at times i wished my dad wasn't an elder so that i could have a bit more freedom.

  It seems to be the opinion of some on this board that elders' kids received special treatment, weren't punished for their wrongdoings, etc.

  A relative of mine (who is not known for speaking out against elders or the org) had on a number of occasions observed an elder's son getting drunk at parties, to the point of projectile vomiting. Rather than gossiping, he quietly approached the elders to tell them that he had a matter of concern to bring to their attention, and they set up a meeting to discuss it with him.

  The meeting took about 20 minutes. He came out looking rather deflated, and said to me: "Well...that was...interesting. It seems I need to make an adjustment in my way of thinking..."

  as a jw, we were told that we had to be saved in order to live eternally.

  do you still hope to live eternally, or did this dream fade away?

  When Mr. Hooper from Sesame Street died in real life, the show dealt with his death in an open, honest and caring way.

  Out of all the episodes of SS that I watched as a kid, that's the one I remember most. It was very well done.

  SMURFS ?!

  can anyone tell me what was wrong with the smurfs ?.

  i heard some horrible rumours about them as a kid, something about some kid taking a smurf to the kingdom hall, it making a whole lotta noise and then trotting off up the aisle until some burley elder threw it out the back !.

  while we are on this point anyone ever have things taken away from them for being demonic etc

  Have any JWs ever been on this site for a serious religious debate?

  I haven't been around here long enough to know. But I was wondering. Wouldn't it be fun? Have there been any takers or requesters of such a thing? Are there other sites where this has happened?

  Some have tried, but the first question to them is always: "If you're really a JW what are you doing on the internet?" And then it very rapidly goes downhill from there.

  Verses that bothered you as a JW

  we find god's name "jehovah" so many times in the old testament, but not at all in the new testament.

  jesus is called a "mighty god" in the bible.

  jesus is also called "father".

  I always found the story of Balaam a bit puzzling. God appears to Balaam one night and tells him to go with the servants of Balak. He obeys and goes with them. This makes God very angry, so he sends an angel to stop Balaam. After stopping him, the angel instructs him to keep going.

  I'm disfellowshipped, and I will partake at the Memorial.................

  well, nisan 14 is rolling around again, and i am going to partake at the memorial.. when i was a goodstanding jw last year, i really thought of the relationship i had with the christ, and partook, and they all had a cow.

  but i had a good standing, so they pretty much left me alone.... well, surprise!!

  i am now disfellowshipped, and some inner voice tells me to go back there one last time and partake, i am not doing this to be a pain, but to show the new congregation that i had belonged to, who i am, and to give others the courage to examine themselves, and their personal relationship with the christ.. i believe disfellowshipping is unscriptural, so i am confidant!!

  Ed, don't be ridiculous. The point was nothing to do with the colour of their skin but the era they lived in, and the level of science and technology available to them at that time.

  But when evidence is discovered that a past generation's level of knowledge may have extended beyond grunting and banging rocks together, the automatic response aways seems to be: "They didn't really understand anything, they just discovered it by accident and then they must have used it in their funny magical rituals."
