  current jw growth is slower than during most of their history.

  the only probable exceptions are following 1975 when there was a brief worldwide decrease, the late 1920s when around half of the members left the movement, perhaps around the 1917 schism, and various schisms during russell’s time.

  there were also periods of sluggish growth during the 1950/60s and around 2000. .

  Slim - let’s just say that the 20 million LDS members physically turned up to general conference. If you add on another 10 million who chose to stay at home and watch it on TV ( 20 + 10 = 30 million in total attendance, or 1/3 chose to not physically show up). If you account for the 33% engagement factor, which would be 10 million. This isn’t to far of from what the JWs are anyway. To be honest I really don’t think there would be to much in it, with membership numbers.

  Then the question has to be asked? If the JWs were to allow their members to attend the memorial by TV link up if they would also produce the same numbers.

  If anything I think the lds attendance at general conference would kind of support the notion that Wt is been honest in its membership numbers, and isn’t cooking the books.

  I apologise, but haven’t read all the posts. As a rough gauge for the LDS. Their general conference ( which is comparable to the JW memorial), they have an attendance of 20 million. When you factor in estimations that it is only 33% of that figure are active mormons. The JWs could not only have a bigger, but more active, membership than the LDS’

  ontario only.. sault st. marie had their six congregations whittled down to two.

  Happy Alcoholic Jehovah's Witnesses

  for many years since the witness organization, after i have told people that i'm no longer a jehovah's witness, people would say "oh the religion were people are not allowed to drink!".

  "no they drink alright.....they can't do much of anything else but they do drink!".

  in fact the first place i ever got drunk was bethel.

  Creepy "Caleb & Sofia" Dolls On eBay

  so i'm on ebay looking for old jw books and i see this crap.... .

  i think some cheap person has taken poundland dolls, put kids clothes on them and have the cheek to flog them for $73.60 (plus shipping).. for one, they look nothing like them.

  and two, how creepy are these?!!

  i have a wife that i would say is a social witness.

  i have never once had a meaningful discussion about the bible or even seen her read the damn thing.

  she puts up a pretty facade of being a good witness but isn’t really a religious person.

  Take comfort in knowing that of those born into the religion only 1/3 will remain in it as adults. The odds are in your favour.

  When a POMO / PIMO is married to a PIMI, the general trend is that it never ends well, so good care and discernment is needed, in order for the relationship is to work.

  I agree with the above post. It’s always mystified me how they will put in all the time and money going around annoying people on a Saturday morning, and yet are so I’ll prepared in the retention and care of exisiting members. Seems to me they just ain’t learning.

  To give some meaning to those figures, and living in a country that is listed as showing a slight increase. The congregations are made up of mainly old people, with very few in the 18-25 year old bracket. The attitude of most is lethargic, with borderline meeting attendance. Witnessing has been reduced to a coffee shop. Over all not surprised that it’s holding its own, if not about to go into decline. That just my take.

  Latest Circuit Assembly Money Assault!

  probably not new to many of you but i'm gonna post it anyway!.

  i went to a circuit assembly last week at the fremont, ca assembly hall in fremont, ca to be with my wife so she could be there to 'witness' the baptism of a person she "studied" with about 2 decades ago!.

  at the main entry to the assembly hall there are 3 or 4 large double door entrances.

  I can see there been some sort of subscription fee (perhaps just a few dollars but it certainly won’t be free) imposed in order to access JW.borg. They gotta do something when you are running out of money.
