I’m my mind it’s not so much of why Intelligent people join the the JWs. It’s why intelligent people join the mormons, or why former JWs switch to the lds. Because that group (LDS) just take crazy to a whole new level. If I had to choose between 607BCE, or Joseph being a prophet of God. I’d be more inclined to take my chances with 607BCE. Lol

Today's WT Study: "Return to Jehovah" - Lots of Elephants in the Room
by Room 215 intoday's article prods active jws to participate in the effort to reactivate us backsliders.. unfortunately, it fails to prepare the participants to adequately address the real reasons so many have left and want nothing frtherethan to be left alone: the un and child abuse scandals, prophetic failures; dumbed-down, increasingly specious and simplistic verbiage in literature and talks, the cult of personality and unwarranted veneration of those 8 singularly unremarkable members of the gb, etc., etc..

I can relate to the after care many were given after they left. I kind of puzzles me really, and to this day, I’m baffled as to weather I should take it as a blessing or an insult. I was in the org for 4 decades from birth. Never missed a month of FS or a meeting. After learning TTATT I just walked out the door, and wisely never stated my reasons for doing so. Never had one person bother to follow up where I had gone. Although I really didn’t want to see them as it saved all the drama. I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed at their lack of concern.
I’ve also got an aged Aunt who lived and breathed the religion. Husband was a elder right up to the day he died. Pioneered for decades, and was at the heart of the cong. She now sits in a rest home largely forgotten. I queried the facility about who visits her and was told that it’s slim pickings.
What I find most puzzling is how they can spend hours, in a very unpleasant situation, knocking on random doors and yet give so little attention to existing membership. I can’t believe how easily it was for me to slip through the net, and in some ways I’m very thankful. I was at a marketing course, a while back, and I remember been told it takes 10 times the effort and money to find a new customer than what it takes to keep an existing one happy and returning. I think WT could learn from this.

I was just thinking about a relative who is quite high up in wt world. She is a university graduated accountant, who I know has worked on various projects for wt around the world.
My question is, with all the goings on in wt world, what must be going through her head. How does she make sense of it. With my relatives, who are just R&F JWs, its very easy to pass it all off as apostate driven lies. However, with the position that she is in, and the knowledge that she would have it becomes a lot harder to explain it like this. She would almost be forced to accept that there are valid reasons for all these sell offs, merges etc.
Although I have never discussed this with her she seems to be pretty unfazed by it all. When she returns to her home country she seems just as Uber as ever. I just don’t get it.

So...what do you think about The United States of America?
by minimus ini know the usa is not perfect.
there have always been social issues and differences.
politics has been for many people divisive.

This kind of sums it up really.
(Q) How many Americans does it take to change a light bulb.
(A) None because they think the world revolves around them.
(Q) Why do Americans have big cars.
(A) Because you need a big car to carry all that weight and attitude.
Americans as a culture, I find to be self absorbed, demanding, over weight, loud and just down right rude. I think, this me first and to hell with anyone else ( first amendment) attitude has led to the problems they are now having with this Corona virus. Will they learn? I would very much doubt it.
As a place to live. The only positive is that they have cheap fuel and eating out ( which is also a problem). For what you earn as opposed to lack of welfare and health care cost, I think I’d rather stay in my own country.
Oh and I forgot to add, also the most medicated nation in the world.

Bleecker Street — I saw a shadow touch a shadow’s hand (New York)
by slimboyfat inwill i ever make it to new york?
i feel if i ever did make it to new york i would never want to leave again.
what do i know about new york?
-
joe134cd
To be fair I have never been to NYC. But I have been to Paris, Rome, and Barcelona. I found Paris reasonably clean, but Rome and Barcelona to be absolutely filthy. Everything had a black tinge to it. I certainly wasn’t impressed with Barcelona when I saw an open drain of semi treated sewage running to the ocean. I can’t understand why everyone raves about the place. I imagine NY would be the same.

Baptism during Covid - pool must tough the ground?
by jwfacts inthe july 2020 announcements mentions that baptism can be held in an “inflatable pool” as long as it touches the ground.
the pool must not be “on a terrace, flat roof, balcony, etc.”.
has anyone ever noticed that as a requirement?.
-
joe134cd
Hey I agree that anything with Wt is possible. Wouldn’t it be funny if they were flooded with letters from people wanting an annulment of their baptism because of health and safety concerns. Just think of the legal implications of being unfairly shunned from something that didn’t comply with H&S. New light I guess.

“The Asiatic Mind” — Watchtower 1956
by slimboyfat insearching instances of the word “simplify” in watchtower literature, i stumbled across this.. the asiatic mind finds it difficult to accept new ways, to simplify and to make advantageous changes.
they fear conversion and dislike others’ offering them help.
many continually live in a realm of unreality and refuse to face modern facts of life.

Magnum - Just be thankful they weren’t Joseph Smith or Brigham Young because then you really would have something to complain about.
