I have to agree with slim, as regard to Adventisism. WT portrays Russel as the man who was a great thinker and an influence to Barber, and Stores. I tend to think it was the other way around with Barber and stores been the great thinkers and influencing Russel. What circumstantial evidence do I have to support this. Russel incorporated many adventist ideals, and it was intially Stores and Barber who had the adventist leanings. Russel mearly borrowed and incorporated it into one organisation.

If they do sell up and run with the money, they will inevitably lose control. 12 months in and already control cracks are beginning to appear with people holding independent study groups. How much longer they can hold this off with virtual meetings. Is anyone’s guess.
I’ve spoken to two ultra Pimis in my local area. Both think it would be a good idea to never go back to the KH. So much for what I heard about Jehovah’s spirit was felt inside his house of worship.

Been and gone here for almost 24 hours. I spun a story to my father to get out of attending. It wasn’t that I didn’t have the time. It was more out of principle that I didn’t want to attend. Lol

I to got a phone call from an elder inviting me to the memorial. I really wanted to give him a piece of my mind, and then I thought of the possibilities if I did. I was polite and thanked him for the call, and then went really quiet. The call was all over in less than 2 minutes. Hopefully I’ll never hear from him again. I thought about blocking his number, but then decided not to, just in case I had to get hold of him in the case of my elderly father.

Avatar (2009) - a mixed-bag but entertaining movie
by LoveUniHateExams inso a few months ago i saw avatar (2009) from beginning to end for the first time.. if i'd seen this when i was ten, i'd probably have loved it.
i find the film entertaining but i do have issues with it.. the movie is beautiful to look at, and there's definitely some interesting concepts.. but star wars it ain't.. first issue, the na'vi: these are blue-skinned humanoids with tails.. my first question is: why do blue monkeys who live 5 light years away on an extrasolar moon have african accents?!.
i know what writer/director james cameron is doing in this film.

An insightful look at JWisim in the context of Mormonism
by joe134cd ini thought this was an interesting discussion on the issues facing not only mormonism but religion in general.
although the jws aren’t specifically mentioned there are striking parallels.
it’s quite lengthy but well worth a listen https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/mormon-stories-lds/id312094772?i=1000513477899.

It is amazing how old JW books are selling and for a lot
by mickbobcat in1934 years books 150 to 700, the finished mystery 100 to 300, other books run around 20 to 50 bucks if they are older.
i dumped a ton in the dumpster and wish i had kept them.
i have a small collection of some of the rare ones like millions now living will never die, and can the living talk to the dead, the finished mystery, and the paradise book.

Luckily I happened to mention to my father, before he was about to throw out his older collection. That to keep a few back, to assert their worth.
I have got stored away the trinity brochure, the original printing of the revelation book, and the first print edition of the silver sword still in its plastic wrapping. Might be worth something one day.

My first Kingdom Hall zoom meeting
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini haven't been to any meetings in the last 9 years.
besides a couple of elder visits here and there, i've been pretty much left alone.
my family has also left me alone, and haven't acted any different towards me.. this week my brother, his daughter and his son all called me to invite me for the next weeks memorial and also my nephew's first sunday talk, which he gave today at noon.

Actually I also got a call a couple days back inviting me to the special talk and memorial. I was in a good mind to tell him what I really thought. Instead I was polite and went really quiet. Knowing that JWs have no boundaries. I didn’t want to say to much in that I would never get rid of the guy. I have to be careful because if I told him what I really thought it would eventually get back to PIMI relatives. The call was all over in 2 minutes

When You Were A Witness Did You Believe Everything Taught?
by minimus inobviously at some point you stopped believing the witnesses had the truth or else you wouldn’t be here.
.
but for the most part, were you a true believer or were you typically a rebel or a doubter?

I had come to the conclusion, for about 2 decades as a PIMI, that Christ came to his end on a cross. It was the only reasonable conclusion.
The cedar point Ohio thing and the revelation book I though may of been pushing the boundaries a bit, but still towed the party line. I wish now that would of been the thing that woke me up.
